The fact they are keeping King out, who I think would start for every team below us if they had the option shows how good these two are. The crap we've had in the engine room Over the last few years (Williams, Hughes, clemence, Jarrett etc) makes me appreciate the both of them even more. these two have the talent to make the step up. Maybe we won't play the 4-4-2 formation in the premiership (I'm talking as if we are already there ) as very few teams do. If we don't, I'd love an experienced head next to these two.

absolutelegend Posted 23 February 2014 Posted 23 February 2014 I think it's safe to say that this is the best lot of central midfielders since the o'neill days I def think drinky & james will do a good job in the prem, and king and hammond would be capable replacements. Credit to Nige for building a talented and hungry squad.

I've just said something similar to this in the MOTM thread from yesterday's game. The guy's only 22 but comes across as a great leader on the pitch.
Fox92 Posted 23 February 2014 Posted 23 February 2014 Our midfield has always seemed to get overrun in recent years, opposition players just gliding through, but I don't see that happening anymore. Drinkwater and James are a dominant partneship, our best midfield partneship, and they have looked class for months now. Obviously friends off of the pitch as well, which can be key.

No disrespect to Andy King but we look a more stronger unit with this guy in midfield. He always seems to be in the thick of the action where King used to go missing. I really rate him and it helps when your best mate is playing along side you (Drinky). As for Drinky...Don't even get me started on how good he's been, and yes I have got a semi on!!!

James is so good at breaking up the play and playing intelligent balls Drinkwater is the man imo though. What an incredible season he is having after looking like he was out of the door in the summer. That could've been a huge mistake so well done Nige.

Doesn't matter how good the two in the middle are where in the Prem most have three. IF we were to go up we'll obviously need to strengthen the squad but I'd be surprised if we come out on top in even a few games with two in the middle, like mentioned above even Lennon & Izzet had Savage
