Mahrez Full Debut

What a midfield we have. Oh I'm so excited, I just can't hide it, I think I'm about to lose control and I think I like it...

Barcelona of the 00s

Brazil of the 70s

Liverpool of the 80s

Hungary of the 50s

England of the 60s

Man U of the 90s

You lot don't even compare to the Leicester City of March 2014.

Sexually?

Yes, he tickled the testicles of the Charlton defence all day but when it came to the penetration he couldn't quite fit it in... metaphorically speaking of course

Was ok... But not a patch on how Dyer has done for most of the season.

Technically very good, but rarely wants to make a forward run and always drops back for the ball. Lots more to come I'm sure.

This

Very sensible post, spot on babs

Thought he was steady, nothing more. He will be a big player for us in time I think.

Looks skilful, has two good feet, isn't scared to do his bit defensively.

Looks like we've unearthed another French gem. Great feet - has the ability to leave defenders wrong-footed when he drops the shoulder. A very sound full-match debut indeed - just comfortable on the ball.

Pretty good I'd say. Can tell he's new to the squad but at the same time, you can tell he's close to Knockaert due to the language links and that there's a lot of potential where he can flourish. Skilful indeed, quick feet but not as bedazzling as Knockaert can be.

One thing I loved today - whenever he did something wrong (not many times I must admit), there was always another player there to support him, tapping him on the back or giving him a thumbs-up to say keep going etc. He took a shot in the first half which went narrowly wide, and instead of players moaning or shrugging their shoulders, they applauded him for the effort.

I guess it's in correlation to the whole team ethic - don't get on each other's backs, stick together, be confident around each other and give each other support. I love it. Things like that should never be understated.

If that kind of thing is noticed by the fans then it must be pretty commonplace. Great to see and yet another positive to go on. Can only see one outcome for us this year!

Definitely.

I've got to the point where I'm thinking when is it going to sink in that the chances of promotion are so high that it's inconceivable it won't happen, and when will it sink in that it actually has happened?!

Found it massively annoying yesterday that the people who have slated Dyer all season sat near me, were so far up this blokes arse.

It's bizarre how peoples preconceptions of players make them see totally different performances from people.

Dyer drops back and doesn't make a forward run "f'ing hell Lloyd, run into the space you idiot"

Mahrez drops back and doesn't make a forward run "oh he's so clever, always wanting to be involved"

Spot on.. this tends to happen lots with new players. Beckford was a great example. The amount of time given to the player (due to people 'hoping' he would come good) by many on this forum actually, was astounding. Finally, it clicked that he wasn't much good, and the rest was history.

Objectivity is important and you are quite right.. Dyer has proven his strengths consistently at this level.

The main difference I saw was that Mahrez got really stuck in to tackles where Dyer isn't so strong. Though Dyer's pace will be a handful that I don't think Mahrez has.

Both will offer plenty.

 Plus Shaky confirmed Lloydy has been carrying an achiles problem for the last few games.

Mahrez has been bought specifically to take Dyers place for when we go up.

How can you make such a sweeping statement? You don't know that for fact. And I don't think it's true myself.

From my point of view hard to tell.

They offered little just a good team performance without getting into third gear.

Bit of a one pace game that we took our chances in.

Worked well from an attacking point of view as we knew it would but we again didn't learn much about Schlupp and Mahrez/Knockaert defensively. I was expecting more of a fight from Charlton but they didn't really turn up. Powell has a battle on his hands to keep them up if that was anything to go by. It was one of our easiest wins in years

That explains a lot.

I don't see City week in/week out, but earlier in the season Dyer looked incredible - his speed and control were terrifying defenders. Against Watford (the most recent game I saw) I thought he looked out of sorts and lacking a yard or two of pace, and I thought he was getting a bit tired - maybe his age starting to show. So it's good, in a way, that it might simply be because he was carrying an injury: get that sorted, and he should be back to his best.

Either way, it sounds as if Mahrez did well in his first full game, so great to have good competition for places.

I was very happy with mahrez's game... Good with both feet, excellent first touch and technique... Positionally very good def and attack and makes good decisions... Early days yet and was against a bottom half team but I think he capable of producing a lot more... Really exciting player to fit in with a really exciting team, NP has built a good steady team thus far!!
