Miquel.... should we sign him from Arsenal?

If he isn't in our top 3 now I'd hope that any defender we sign would be of a quality to displace one of the three.

Decent squad player in my opinion. Young and will learn from the players we have here and build on what he's learnt  at Arsenal. Got to be worth a year or two if on lowish wages. On Barca's books as a youth player and has represented Spain at under 16, 19 and 21. Surely the potential is there?

All depends on how much he wants. He'd be a good squad player as already said and i wouldnt worry if he had to come in for a few games to cover for injuries.

But if he wants silly money then it woulodnt be worth it.

what we gotta be thinking is that in the prem we got a 25 man squad to name ant I think he would be a half decent cover for back four and baring in mind pearson has only played 18 diff players this season and he was one of them

I wouldn't worry about the 25-man squad naming. Youth players and academy aren't included iirc? We would comfortably pass it.

If he wasn't out of contract at the end of the season I wouldn't even consider it. Most of our defeats have been with him in the team. He looks decent but I'd rather spend some money to get an experienced defender in or another youngster.

Does that mean we can'y do both - that is take on a very low cost Miquel and buy someone else???????

Personally, I'd like us to give him a new contract as a backup centre-back.

He's still got a lot of room for improvement, has settled in nicely, likes it here, has talent and with the right coaching, I can see him going a long way.

Though I despair of agreeing with Horse, yes I'd love to keep Miquel. He's only going to get better.

For me it's a no because I think we need a new first choice centre-back which leaves us three very good centre-backs competing for 1 spot. He'd be 5th choice.

Pretty sure we saw him in McDonald's on Saturday night so he can't be earning that much.

He was flipping burgers on the minimum wage to supplement his wages? Those FFP rules are really starting to bite at LCFC!

Crikey!!!!! We will need a fifth choice for goodness sake!!!!! Absolutely ideal from any way you wish to look at it.

Low cost, easy to get, young, keen and skillful..................... plus every chance that Nigel could further develop him as a real quality defender.

Give him a contract Nige!

If he's available for free I would have no problem with it. We could then get him out on loan for a full championship season and reevaluate his position at the club in a years time. He's got something and if a club doesn't make a regular starter of him something has gone wrong. But for 23 he has hardly played any football wherever he has been.

He's 21 years old, 22 in September.

Thanks - I stand corrected. Still the point stands. A handful of game aged 21 is not much at all.

Seems to like it here.

Personally I've not seen enough to convince me he's good enough. Unless Pearson thinks the coaching staff can improve his game I don't see why we should should sign him.

Squad player.

We have 3 centre backs and 2 left backs on the books. I'd hope we'd be buying some real quality in these positions to add to that.

To keep Iggy is a no-brainer. 21 years old, skilful, seems to have the ability that a good manager could build on to give us a real talent in a very short space of time. Low cost. Why wouldn't we want to keep him?

Oh, and just to explain to those who maybe can't see it, we can also bring in a real quality proven central defender as well.

That would make five central defenders altogether, which would be about right.

Furthermore, Ignassi Miquel is already better than St Ledger.
