MPH Posted 21 May 2014 Posted 21 May 2014 How do you know he's not good enough or not capable of making the step up to the Premier League? I can't cite Crystal Palace's rise from the dead with alleged weak, unproven or unspectacular players under a dedicated manager often enough. Trouble is, he hardly played in the last half of the season... and that was in the championship. Considering who we are getting linked with, it seems like Nige and his gang are looking for a CB with prem experience. So who would he replace? Wes? Was? This new guy? Liam Moore? I have no doubt he can improve as a player but surely he has to get game time for that and I don't see where it would come from...

I'm not saying Miquel has what it takes to make it in the Premiership instantly. A sensible suggestion would be to loan him out to a Championship team pushing for promotion next season.
sdb Posted 21 May 2014 Posted 21 May 2014 How do you know he's not good enough or not capable of making the step up to the Premier League? Because he can't make a Championship match day squad most weeks.

He's definitely good enough to hold down a starting spot in the champ for some teams...I'd pack him off to somewhere like Sheff. United
MC Prussian Posted 21 May 2014 Posted 21 May 2014 Because he can't make a Championship match day squad most weeks. But that's not down to him alone, is it?
MPH Posted 21 May 2014 Posted 21 May 2014 Because he can't make a Championship match day squad most weeks. To be fair, that was for the run away leaders who pissed the league...
sdb Posted 21 May 2014 Posted 21 May 2014 To be fair, that was for the run away leaders who pissed the league... Sure, but if he can't make that then why sign him for a far stronger league? Even if educated guesses/logic isn't enough, when he played he never looked great anyway. I think it's clear he needs to play Championship football next year. Glad he came, I saw his misses in the flesh and found her on instagram but that's all he'll be needed for now. Ciao Inny.
Agent Fox Posted 21 May 2014 Posted 21 May 2014 Saw him play numerous times, comfortable on the ball, brave and a solid defender. Pros - Knows the club, educated by a great manager/ club at Arsenal, prospect. Cons - Won't start for us this season. Verdict - Bargain free transfer, sign him up.
Captain... Posted 22 May 2014 Posted 22 May 2014 Would he make it into a 25 man squad? Don't think he needs to be in it as he is 21, although I'm not sure about this, or when the cut off is as his brithday is in September. If he is happy to be a bit part player and and wouldn't mind going out on loan for first team football, I say sign him up, wages being reasonable of course. Lets remember that Drinkwater, Vardy and Moore weren't good enough this time last season and there were question marks over James and RDL, but after a season of being in the first team set-up and a full pre-season they improved massively and started this season brilliantly, the same could well happen for Miquel.

Finnaldo Posted 3 June 2014 Posted 3 June 2014 Seeing as we haven't heard anything on this, do you think we will sign him? Would like him here, unlucky not to play more but like Moore kept out by the performances of Wes and Was. My thinking is that it might be like Nuge or Kasper as holidays (or international duty for Kasper) means he hasn't been around to agree to it. Definitely enjoyed it here and definitely one for the future, a loan out to a decent Championship club maybe?
Danno Posted 3 June 2014 Posted 3 June 2014 Not too bothered to be honest. Wasn't that impressive. If we sign another defender hopefully it will be someone signed to start most games.

Wasn't that impressive?!?!?! Did you ever actually see him play or assumed because he didn't feature that much, he must not be good enough. He is a very intelligent young defender who can play football, and pass it out of defence. Something at times we lack.
Bryn Posted 3 June 2014 Posted 3 June 2014 The boy needs first team football, I think he would love to sign for us but knows he would likely be 5th choice. He should go be first choice for a decent Championship side.
CosbehFox Posted 3 June 2014 Posted 3 June 2014 Like I above I hope he doesn't sign for us. He needs to play football.

katieakita Posted 3 June 2014 Posted 3 June 2014 Utd rave about Keane but i rate Miquel more than him, Ufd are happy for Keane to learn his trade away from Old Trafford so if the price is right take a punt and loan him out for a time to a championship side.
ealingfox Posted 3 June 2014 Posted 3 June 2014 If we were to sign him up and loan him out it has to be to a Club where he will play every week.
MGLCFC Posted 3 June 2014 Posted 3 June 2014 If we were to sign him up and loan him out it has to be to a Club where he will play every week. I bet Arsenal thought that too last season

Er yes considering I went to pretty much every game last season I did see him play. Passing the ball does not make you a great defender.
LCFC31 Posted 3 June 2014 Posted 3 June 2014 No, mainly because he is rubbish. What makes you think he is rubbish?
ZeljkoKalac1 Posted 4 June 2014 Posted 4 June 2014 What makes you think he is rubbish? Lightweight for a centre-half and not good enough for the Prem.....so not worth signing on any front. Remember in the Prem you only have a maximum 2 loan signings from domestic clubs so you have to make them count. Perfect example being Everton who signed Lukaku and Barry.
Dickov22 Posted 4 June 2014 Posted 4 June 2014 I don't think we saw enough of him to suggest yes or no. He was crap at Stoke, but so were most of them.

Your second point is the best made on this forum for about 5 years I reckon ....
