Konchesky

Anyone a bit concerned he will be our first team left back next season? That's the first position that requires a new signing in my opinion. Schlupp or Konchesky nowhere near good enough for prem.

There's a few posters that might not be up to the trauma of a PL stint as well, not sure how they're are going to cope.

I think it's a tough one with Konchesky. Last season he looked finished but at the start of this season he was one of the strongest performers in our team.

One thing I do think is that the standard of left back in The Premier League isn't that high. When you look at some of the guys currently playing regularly; Alonso (Sunderland), Taylor (Cardiff), Bennett (Villa), Wilkinson (Stoke), Olsson (Norwich) and McCartney (West Ham), I don't think it's an area where many teams are particularly strong.

Even the likes of Spurs have Rose there and (Everton, Southampton and Chelsea aside) I don't see many teams with real top quality left backs. I think Pearson will start the season with Konchesky and see how he gets on. His experience will be useful and he's obviously good to have in the squad otherwise Pearson would have got rid by now.

If we can establish ourselves in the table then Schlupp can be gradually introduced as I certainly don't think Konchesky will be much use at the end of next season.

Highly doubt he'll be good enough and I think the same of Schlupp. Schlupp's made a very decent contribution as a wing back but he's still a bit suspect defensively and he'll be punished for it in the Premier. He'll only get better the more he plays there though.

Definitely think we need another left back and Cresswell is the obvious shout.

Well Schlupp is first choice at the minute so surely he'll be more likely to start.

I would say if Schlupp is there now Konch doesnt stand a chance of starting in the prem and to be honest I would be suprised if Schlupp  is our only other option at LB

I don't think he's quick enough, and frequently wants one touch too many. Schlupp is looking good at left back. Positionally he needs work, but I wouldn't worry toooooo much. I can see Pearson only bringing in 3/4 at most, and don't expect us to be spending mega bucks either.

It depends if Nigle thinks fvck it, I'm going to play the same way, using our pacy attacking full backs, or change for a more solid approach, I would expect both to still be in the squad next season, but if the chance comes up to sign a pacy attacking left back, that also has the discipline and experience to change his game and sit back and defend when required then I think Pearson will be interested.

Schlupp is still developing and can add soemthing off the bench and cover 3 positions, Konch has the experience to come in and cover Left Back and Centre Back if required, but will also probably be happy being a suad player in the prem.

I think Schlupp will be favoured but if he makes mistakes then NP will call on the experience of Knoch.

I can't see us signing another LB, if we wanted someone new why would you keep Schlupp in the Jan window and offer Knoch an extension?

We may however sign someone who can cover RB & LB? Or maybe a centre half who can play LB given Moore can play RB if needed.

I'd admire him if he stuck with Schlupp but I'd understand if he didn't too. It's a bit of a risk already.

Cresswell sounds very much like this pacey attacking full back.

I like Konchesky but I honestly think he would be a weak link next year. Schlupp is too inexperienced and it would be too big an ask for him to be first choice there, so I think we definitely need to bring in a first choice left back, hopefully with Schlupp as an understudy.

Cresswell would be a good signing. Wouldn't mind Neil Taylor as second choice

Only seen him once, when Ipswich played at the KP, he certainly didn't impress on that occasion.

It's a place we can definitely improve BUT I'd have faith in Konchesky or Schlupp. That might alarm some but isn't Konchesky one of the fittest guys at the club? Admittedly his passes can be astray but I actually believe he and Schlupp will be up for the task in hand. I think with a run of games, Schlupp will only get better. Konchesky getting sent off at Forest has worked wonders for Schlupp.

Whilst I wouldn't be slitting my wrists if we started the prem campaign with those 2 as our LB options, if I was given the funds to strengthen the squad, that would be the first place I would look, or my first priority would be ensuring we can be solid at the back, especially away from home. I wouldn't want us lining up away against Man City, Liverpool, or Chelsea with a flat back 4 of Schlupp, Morgan, Was and RDL. I would hope Pearson can bring in the players so that we can be solid when we play away from home and have to and try and grab a break away goal with our pace up front. At home to Norwich or West Brom, it is a different matter and we can play with pacey full backs push them back and dominate the game, but we aren't going to be able to do that at Stamford Bridge, the Etihad, or Anfield and could end up being spanked if we try to.

Don't know why, but I can see Konch banging in a sensational winner in front of a delirious away end next season.

Posted

Should be the first position that gets looked at imo. Neiter of our current lb's are premiership standard, unless Nige pulls another Vardy and Schlupp ends up getting ten times better over the break.

I'd like to see Schlupp given a chance, I'm not too bothered about Konchesky. He's not good enough for the PL but he has been a good servant to the club so I think we'll use him if we need to.

I agree. It is a place that us fans think we can improve but I wonder if Nigel sees it as a matter of urgency/top priority. In fact, I'd love to know what shortlist he has positonally, if he has made one. I know he likes to keep his cards close to his chest so not counting on anything soon!

Cant see why people would want us to get rid of Konch. Steady and massively experienced so even as back up would be worth keeping.

As already pointed earlier in the thread, there are some bang average left backs in the prem so i'd be quite happy with Konchesky.

Schlupp has alot of question marks but defo has all the attributes to succeed in that position

The spine of the time needs priority for me

Couldn't agree more.
