Konchesky

I would consider signing a centreback more important, personally. One with a bit of pace. I'd find Konchesky quite adequate if he had a quick left-sided centreback behind him tbh.

I'm comfortable with Schlupp at the moment, reminds me of Danny Rose at Spurs. I think he deserves a shot in the Prem but I don't think Konch should get anywhere near the pitch. Cresswell would be nice but Schlupp is a starter for me.

New LB please.

Konch hoofs too much. "Right I have Drinkwater in front of me, and James another easy option as they're unmarked- but wait a minute, is that Vardy on the other side of the pitch marked by 3 defenders over there, maybe it'll go to him" *ball goes out for a throwing*

Schlupp is great but not sure how he'll cope with people like Sterling and Hazard.

Lets be fair, many left backs in the world would struggle with players like that......

NP has already told you loosers,

what he wants to do with the squad, and you will all be hiding the excuse we/I have the right to an opinion...well how many of you got this season right with your over the top criticism.

For Godsake, for the players sake, give Schlupp and others a chance, they've proved you wrong so far.

Why start now being pre-judgemental..to the cynics .I'd love to be your boss.

See your reaction when told after 9 months top performance, your not quite up to it, your excess to requirements..

FFS NP has picked and trusted these players, he's got a squad and team playing for him, you doubters think you know better,

Goodluck on your exams for the the coaching-badge....Let nature take its choice, NP will know who will be upto it.

.

You notice the players come on this site, why dis-hearten them before they have been given a chance.

Get off your high horse and back on Battle Cat, I don't think anyone has unduly criticised Schlupp, just that he doesn't have any prem experience, and not that much at left back in his career, and is a risk, especially up against some of the best players in the world.

NP isn't going to just sit on the money that will be made available to him and stubbornly say "I'm not spending it", he will look to strengthen, and one risk is that we are over exposed playing 2 attack minded full backs, and of those 2 RDL has played some games in the Prem and played a lot more games at full back in the championship than Schlupp.

Not saying I wouldn't play him, just that personally my priority would be to get in either a defense minded LB, to offer something different for those tricky away ties at the Etihad, or an experienced LB so we are not relying on a converted forward when we come under a barrage of attacks trying to hold on to a lead at home to Villa.

As for Konchesky, he has shown this season that he is not reliable enough to be that player. (sorry Paul, if you are reading this, you have a pre-season to prove me wrong).

So you think we should just stick with the same squad next season? Don't think we should strengthen at all?

I think Konchesky gets quite a lot of unfair stick on here. Personally I think other than a shaky month or two at the tail end of last season he has been a very consistent performer over the last 3 years. For the first 2/3 of the season Konchesky and Dyer down the left caused problems for every right back we played against. He's solid defensively and offers the overlap all day long. Granted he doesn't have the pace of De Laet or Schlupp but a lot of Leicester fans think of Ikechi Anya flying past him against Watford and automatically write him off as an over the hill, slow, left back. That's just a bit unfair in my eyes.  Let’s not forget Konch has played a massive part in this season's success.

Would I have an issue starting him into the premiership, no. Do I see it as a position we can improve on, definitely, but it's not as vital as others. I think Schlupp will start at left back in the first game of next season for what it's worth. For all the clamour for Arron Cresswell has he showed anything that would be a significant improvement on Schlupp? Not in my book. Schlupp has all the attributes needed for a top class left back, the added experience of playing in the Premier will improve him again.

A good team has a good spine. Ours is the best by far in the championship this season. Kasper, Morgan, Drinky and Nugent/Vardy have all played in nearly every game.  If we get the spine right again for next season then we're halfway there.

We've looked a better footballing side without him.

I accept Suarez will tear apart any defender in the league but I could see wingers from Norwich & West Brom giving Konchesky a run for his money. He's not awful but he definitely isn't top flight standard.

2 years ago I'd happily have had Konch at left back in the premiership. His main weaknesses are ariel ability and pace both of which could sell us well short in the premiership. Schlupp is more mobile but I think he will end to understudy a more experienced left back before being ready. I wouldn't start either of them and think we will sign someone else. I'd like to see Cresswell (Ipswich) Izaguirre (Celtic) or Taylor (Swansea) at Leicester next year.

Whenever Cresswell has played against us I've never really been impressed, so whether or not he's the answer I'm not too sure.

Schlupp, if he had played LB all of his career I think he'd be first choice next season but his positioning needs to be worked on and he needs to be more disciplined as he drifts inside far too often and is caught too high up the pitch sometimes.

Whilst I wouldn't be slitting my wrists if we started the prem campaign with those 2 as our LB options, if I was given the funds to strengthen the squad, that would be the first place I would look, or my first priority would be ensuring we can be solid at the back, especially away from home. I wouldn't want us lining up away against Man City, Liverpool, or Chelsea with a flat back 4 of Schlupp, Morgan, Was and RDL. I would hope Pearson can bring in the players so that we can be solid when we play away from home and have to and try and grab a break away goal with our pace up front. At home to Norwich or West Brom, it is a different matter and we can play with pacey full backs push them back and dominate the game, but we aren't going to be able to do that at Stamford Bridge, the Etihad, or Anfield and could end up being spanked if we try to.

I totally agree with this. When recruiting 'squad members' we should be looking for a variety, so we can be flexible in our approach to games.

We need to look at what tactics and formations, we will be likely to use through the season. It would be naive to think we won't need to adapt our game at all.

I am inclined to give Schlupp a chance till the January transfer market and if we are struggling then bring in a LB then it isn't a priority position, he has done very well so far at LB the odd game where he doesn't make much of an impact but on the whole he is a player that can improve and has bundles of potential.

Konchesky as a back up should be fine.

Personally I feel left back is our weakest area on the pitch. If you weren't looking to improve there I struggle to see where we would justify spending any money at all.

One advantage with Schlupp is he is 21, and therefore doesn't need to be named in the squad (I am not 100% sure about this, as they keep mentioning you can have unlimited U21 players, but not defining U21, Jack Wilshire wasn't in Arsenal's squad and was 21, same with Shelvey, so Liam and Schlupp shouldn't need to be registered in the 25 Man Squad.

Not that I expect NP to have a full 25 man squad, plus those 2. Although in total we used 27 players this season, but I think it is only 20 in the league.

Both would do a job IMO. Schlupp has all the attributes to be an attacking full back (how much better does he have to play to convince people?) and Konch aint too bad, even now.

This has started already I see...

Konch would be decent for us next year. His experience could be vital. I hope Schlupp stays on as first choice LB but Premier League might be too much of a step for him, hope I'm wrong.

10 years away, 10 years to become natural pessemists.

I have no idea how any of our players, will fair in the PL, but everyone deserves a chance, because they got us to where we are this season.

There will be new signings, there will be city players, who will naturally drift away, others will be told for different reasons, sorry we are letting you go., others will get offers the could well accept.Thats not speculation but footy fact.

Why now, 3 days after our best day in ten years, start to be pessemistic and negative and demean our players.

Why now be negative, Why speculate who will or should go. Neither myself or anybody on this forum will influence, NPs or the owners squad descisions, they will do what they believe is right, gather experience, and make again descisions to balance in their belief the mistakes, the improvements, expansions needed that developes the squad.

Any Negatives now, sorry is beyond me.

Difficult to call really, I've got a feeling we won't sign a LB. I know he won't come close but you never know bakayogo could be a better signing than people think. I know he's been written off on here just like Vardy, drinky and Schlupp have been in the past

We're discussing things, there's barely been anything negative said, let alone anyone 'demeaning' our players. Stop being so melodramatic, you seem to be the one who needs to find negativity in basically anything that's been said.
