Claridge Posted 6 May 2014 Posted 6 May 2014 The thing that makes GTF so good is his positioning, always in the right place at the right time. Some part of him will be in the right place, the pitch is only so wide
gcah2013 Posted 6 May 2014 Posted 6 May 2014 Both he and Dyer have played roles in getting us up this year and in no way deserve the criticism they're getting. So did Sean St. Ledger and Conrad Logan, but no-one is immune to criticism. I would personally like to see Dyer as an option in the Premier League, but GTF just doesn't have anything that we can't sign elsewhere.
Bob Weasel Fox Posted 6 May 2014 Posted 6 May 2014 GTF is a better footballer than dyer, but dyer is more of an athlete. Personally prefer we kept both as they could be very useful for us.I would love it if we keep both. GTF squad player next season and Dyer obviously at least on the bench
ThorpeAstleyFox Posted 6 May 2014 Posted 6 May 2014 GTF is great to bring on when you need some width in the middle!!! On a serious note, I don't think that he has a place in a Premier League squad. His experience has been valuable at times this year - especially earlier on in the season when GTF and Hammond would come on for the last 10 minutes to close a game out - but I think that the mid-Championship is his correct level.
Langston Posted 6 May 2014 Posted 6 May 2014 If we could all stop from making the cheap comments about his waistline (ha), I think he's been a really shrewd piece of business, few eyebrows were raised when we signed him but he's somebody I'd favour over Wood, to be honest. Really neat and tidy player with a disgracefully good touch at times, if he does leave 80% of teams in the Championship would be privileged to have him.
65RosesFox Posted 6 May 2014 Posted 6 May 2014 Fooks sake. . With the season we have just had are you REALLY saying that GTF has had the same impact on our success that Lloyd Dyer has had? No, in fact you are saying he's a BETTER player! I remain one of the only ones on here who just can't see the GTF love-in. The first time I saw him I thought 'overweight and slow, with a decent first touch'. And I still think that. It's fascinating what makes fans like certain players and not others. For instance, I see Waghorn as a far more dangerous player than Fletcher. And Waghorn has gone on to do very very well at Wigan. I don't get the GTF thing. Never have done. Waghorn may have done very well at Wigan. But GTF has done very well here and deserves a one year extension. We have a small squad as it is with only 20 players making double figure appaearances this season (according to the LCFC site) therefore if we get rid of the likes of GTF and Lloyd for the matter it means there's two more new signings we need to make in the summer as well as the ones we need without placing any of them. GTF doesn't expect to start many if any games next season, he will be a bit part player at best, but something different to others in the squad. He is familair with the team and has premier league experience which could be invaluable next season. I really can't understand people wanting to get rid of players that have had a positive impact on the small squad we have. I mentioned this in another thread....for the people who say he's 'not premier league quality' if you want a squad of 25 'premier league quality' players then expect the owners to spend well over £100m. From the teams below that should be safe up to 10th if you can honeslty say all of their squads that have had players appear in 10 games or more are all of 'premier league quality' then i will admit i am wrong. But i bet at least 3 of them in each time are below what people class as 'premier league quality' Stoke Crystal Palace West Ham Swansea Aston Villa Hull West Brom Sunderland
worksopfox Posted 6 May 2014 Posted 6 May 2014 Both deserve a contract, for the different roles they bring. As for Waghorn, he never progressed from his original loan spell at the club.. if you study him he struggles to control the ball!
foxile5 Posted 6 May 2014 Posted 6 May 2014 It's a strange old state of affairs. I read over these discussions and I can't find any gusto in myself to argue either for or against. This isn't apathy, and it's not a dwindling interest. I just fully trust our management team to make the correct decisions. This is a strange situation.

Fair points, Col, but it depends how they fit into the team dynamic. GTF has been a great impact sub when I have seen him. Waghorn didn't fit into our set-up - saidly, because as a player I really rated him, and if they go up, he will be brilliant for Wigan.

I know it's not comparable, but MON's teams in the late 90s were made up of top-class players who would fit into any team (Izzet, Lennon, Heskey) and journeyman professionals who played their hearts out for the team. Personally I think that GTF (and Lloyd Dyer) fit that mold. Fact is, we are not Man U, Chelsea, Man City, Arsenal, etc., all of whom can afford to have internationals earning £50K a week sitting on the bench. We are Leicester City: and we have to work on that basis.
Agent Fox Posted 6 May 2014 Posted 6 May 2014 More than happy to keep GTF and bring him on when we're winning.
Jace Posted 6 May 2014 Posted 6 May 2014 Great technical ability I bet there is no one is the team with a better touch than he has
LCFC2429 Posted 6 May 2014 Posted 6 May 2014 GTF is a awful player doesn't deserve a contract I hate him so so much fat lazy player who needs to retire
Itsthejoeker Posted 6 May 2014 Posted 6 May 2014 I'd have him on a year contract any day, great touch and vision.
shade Posted 6 May 2014 Posted 6 May 2014 Been a cracking signing, cost us virtually nothing I imagine and is the perfect player to bring on when protecting a lead. Not sure about next season as surely it will be too big a step up, if he's cheap though it never hurts to have a couple of 'closers' like him and Hammond in the squad, both could be vital at a certain time when we are under pressure holding a lead. the only thing GTF could close is an all you can eat buffet.* *joke. I think he's okay, probs wouldn't offer him a contract though.
Fox96 Posted 6 May 2014 Posted 6 May 2014 GTF is a awful player doesn't deserve a contract I hate him so so much fat lazy player who needs to retire One of the best technical players at the club, don't know how you can say he's awful, certainly not the worst striker we've had. Also, yes he's not exactly the most mobile player but certainly not lazy.
Buzzell Posted 6 May 2014 Posted 6 May 2014 I think his time here is done. He's done well since he's been here but he's nowhere near good enough to be used next season. He's too slow, and I don't care if he's got a good first touch. We need more QUALITY. Tubby's time is up I'm afraid.

katieakita Posted 6 May 2014 Posted 6 May 2014 GTF is a awful player doesn't deserve a contract I hate him so so much fat lazy player who needs to retire What sort of idiot signed him, oh wait a second, perhaps the manager knew what he was doing. Seems a popular squad player and we don't know his input at training. Perhaps a pre season will help him but thats down to the manager. This squad has just won the league so is it that bad.
Leicesterpool Posted 6 May 2014 Posted 6 May 2014 I love Gary, he was great help towards our promotion push... but I don't think he'll be much good to us in the premier league. We do need some premier league experience up front but maybe on lines of someone already currently playing in the premier greed.
