Captain... Posted 24 July 2014 Posted 24 July 2014 Harsh but fair, to the uninformed, it is a lot of money to spend on an untried forward for the prem. He did well at Brighton, but his record isn't outstanding. The other strikers he mentioned would probably be good signings, if they were the type of player we were looking for. This is where we have inside info, we know what type of player Pearson is looking for in footballing style and attitude, we know that Pearson and Walsh have an excellent scouting network and for sure would have been aware of these other available players and decided they were not for us. Wages are also an issue, despite the article pointing out Gomis, Adrian and Pandev would be on higher wages but cheaper in the long run. We don't want high earners causing issues in the dressing room. We also know that Pearson identified him as a target early on because of his ability, attitude and wages and we have had the price driven up by Brighton not wanting to sell. For us the money is irrelevant £8 million is a fraction of the guaranteed £63 million prize money and there is no benefit spending less money on players we don't want? Like I said a harsh but probably fair reaction from the uninitiated.
MPH Posted 24 July 2014 Posted 24 July 2014 That website is banned at my work... what does the article say?
Brainy Posted 24 July 2014 Posted 24 July 2014 In all fairness, what other signings have been worse than Ulloa this week? Thats not me making a point btw just asking a question
Guest Col city fan Posted 24 July 2014 Posted 24 July 2014 Wow! Amazingly frank article that... I now hope Leo goes and gets 20 for the season. That'd shut em up.
Foxymcoxy Posted 24 July 2014 Posted 24 July 2014 Of course pandev and Adrian were just waiting by the phone for Nigel to call!
Tielemans63 Posted 24 July 2014 Posted 24 July 2014 "Likewise, Napoli’s Goran Pandev who has also run out for Lazio and Inter Milan in Serie A. Almost 100 goals in Italy’s top flight are not to be sniffed at and while older he could have also represented better value than Pearson’s new charge." I think this article may have been written by an actual spastic.
Tielemans63 Posted 24 July 2014 Posted 24 July 2014 In all fairness, what other signings have been worse than Ulloa this week? Thats not me making a point btw just asking a question How can any signing be a bad one before a player has even played?
GingerrrFox Posted 24 July 2014 Posted 24 July 2014 The guy has clearly played too much Football Manager. Diouf wanted to stay in Germany, Gomis's wages alone would near the £60-100k range never mind the sign on few and the mentioning of Pandev is laughable. On top of all that, none of them have the playing style of Ulloa in aerial ability, strength and hold up play. Bin.
Tielemans63 Posted 24 July 2014 Posted 24 July 2014 The guy has clearly played too much Football Manager. Diouf wanted to stay in Germany So much so that he signed for stoke! 100% agree with everything else though!
GingerrrFox Posted 24 July 2014 Posted 24 July 2014 So much so that he signed for stoke! 100% agree with everything else though! Diouf wanted to stay in Germany but nobody would pay him the wages he wanted. I hear he's on a shed load at Stoke.
Brainy Posted 24 July 2014 Posted 24 July 2014 How can any signing be a bad one before a player has even played? Well I assume they're only basing it on his past, and the relatively hefty price we've had to pay.
MattGamble92 Posted 24 July 2014 Posted 24 July 2014 I'm pleased this signing isn't getting glowing reviews. Our best signings in recent years and perhaps ever have all been ones that have raised eyebrows

CosbehFox Posted 24 July 2014 Posted 24 July 2014 I don't think the media understand that a high transfer fee and a reasonable wage may actually be a better deal than a very high wage over the course of three years .
Aus Fox Posted 24 July 2014 Posted 24 July 2014 Is it just me or in the article the main criticism of Ulloa is the lack of premier league experience? But all the other suggestions they make have no experience in the premier league either?
