kingfox Posted 6 August 2014 Author Posted 6 August 2014 KF why have you not got a job as a DOF or are you a scum bag agent pushing all your shite under our noses? Just know names, people can think what they like with all this Fifa & FM bollocks, but at the end of the day I don't play either so Any of the three I mentioned, would be an upgrade on Boring Deano.
Dickov22 Posted 7 August 2014 Posted 7 August 2014 Yes, I think James will do 'ok' in the Prem. He won't pull up any trees, I suspect, but will be capable at that level. Drinkwater, I'm expecting to really shine. The other two.. Not good enough back up IMO. I actually think it'll be the other way around with these two. If James can stay fit, I can see him having an excellent season.
Fosse93 Posted 7 August 2014 Posted 7 August 2014 Personally think that Andy King will surprise a lot of people next year. Likewise. Hammond isn't a bad 4th choice CM either, it's worth mentioning that Pearson repeatedly pointed out at various times last season how he helped the more inexperienced players. Let's not forget, Hammond has seen this all before at Southampton albeit he didn't play very much, his experience could once again be vital.

This'll be the Dean Hammond who was loaned out for the whole of Southampton's first season back in the premier league, and sold to us at the start of the second one. The only part of all this he's seen before is how quickly he's shipped out to a team in the league below.

Well I often tend to agree with your posts so I hope you're right mate. Regarding King, jury's out for me. Whether King performs well or not epitomises my thoughts on this squad per se. I have literally no idea whether we will sink or swim.

dannythefox Posted 7 August 2014 Posted 7 August 2014 I like him ,doesn't do anything to flash last season he came on when we were under pressure a few times just to steady us down. He can't leave without a replacement coming in anyway we're to thin on the ground as it is!
Guest Col city fan Posted 7 August 2014 Posted 7 August 2014 He was still there in the build up to the new season, didn't get loaned out until a good month after the season started. Cmon.. is that really meant to be a commendation? One whole month! Listen, I've never slated Hammond... he came into the squad last season when needed and did well. But I don't and never have subscribed to this view that the Premiership isn't 'all that'. To compare the likes of Hull, West Brom, West Ham etc with the Championship sides is folly IMO. I think it's going to be tougher than many are saying and players like Hammond, for example, I don't think will be good enough. Not bad, but not good enough. Same with Wood.
artursteppe Posted 7 August 2014 Posted 7 August 2014 Not an ideal situation in my opinion. De Laet needs proper competition, yes he has improved but in the Prem, defensively he could well be a car crash. Moore yes can cover, but Wasilewski no way. Nearly all teams have four full-backs in their side, really we only have 3 atm. You ought to come and see a few games. De Laet just gets better and better, and will keep doing so. He is much better defensively than he used to be and is now reading the game very well. Some of his cover play and far post positioning is excellent. I really don't know what you are watching if you do actually go to matches. Of course quality competition is often a good thing, but we do not actually neeeeed it at right back.
Les-TA-Jon Posted 7 August 2014 Posted 7 August 2014 Is the question whether Hammond will be good enough or not? The question is, if he went, would we be able to get a decent enough replacement? We don't gain anything by selling him.

ROB-THE-BLUE Posted 7 August 2014 Posted 7 August 2014 What are you on? Are you actually saying we wouldn't be able to get someone better than Hammond, so we should therefore keep him? Think it's more a case of don't weaken our squad in terms of depth before we've improved it in depth and quality

Guest Posted 7 August 2014 Posted 7 August 2014 hammond is solid at the back, he sweeps in front of the back line. I think some supporters only see goals as the indice for being good. Hammond is fine for our no.4 especailly when we have youth coming through too.

Hammond wasn't quick enough, constantly off the pace and for me did little to really impact the game, even in a defensive sense. I certainly never felt like we looked more solid with him on the pitch. Maybe, a full preseason with us and he'll be a bit fitter and on the ball. I'm shitting it that Drinkwater or James get injured. DD especially as I don't think we have anyone else who can play his role.

Might not be as lucky this season as most of it will be a battle for us. We are realising now how thin our squad is and probably need to spend 20m more to get it anywhere near right.
Dickov22 Posted 7 August 2014 Posted 7 August 2014 Well I often tend to agree with your posts so I hope you're right mate. Regarding King, jury's out for me. Whether King performs well or not epitomises my thoughts on this squad per se. I have literally no idea whether we will sink or swim. Likewise I always agree with you I think we will still bring a couple in. I think we will pack the midfield more than we did last season, particularly away from home. I'd like to see us bring in a player who is the standard of DD and James in the midfield. What concerns me more than the midfield is our defence. Wasileswki isn't my favourite, I don't think Moore's as good as we all hope/think (useless defending at Rotherham the other night). Set peices have been our weakness for years and I can't see that improving this season. I'd much rather we splashed out on a top, right side of 30 centre half than another striker. Fingers crossed

Fingers crossed I don't think set pieces will be resolved by signing another CB unless he is an absolute worldy (which we won't attract yet). I think the problem is most of our players are short and lack an ariel threat.... Take a look at our set pieces at the other end of the pitch... Not much joy either from corners or free kicks. Ulloa could be the answer to this I feel. Give him a free role to attack the ball in both boxes and it could do the trick. He's big, strong and good in the air.

I said last season, he has improved dramatically and his defending is much better, but this is the Premier League now, if he has a bad patch of form, or get's injured like we know he can, then who you going to play there? Wouldn't want Moore or Wasilewski starting at RB. De Laet needs proper competition, he is the only player in the side who doesn't have competition for his place, nearly all Premier League teams will have four full-backs, at the minute we only have three.

Robin JD Popley Posted 7 August 2014 Posted 7 August 2014 If, and I stress that, should we be prepared to let him go NP must have someone already lined up in his stead. This leads me to think that could be Holtby but I doubt we would let him go unless we had a player like LH ready to sign.
Kitchandro Posted 7 August 2014 Posted 7 August 2014 Frankly I thought he looked out of his depth last season let alone this. If Hammond had been playing in Holloway's or Sven's Leicester side instead of making cameos for a Pearson Leicester side who romped the league, he'd get a lot more stick than he does.
