ScouseFox Posted 4 September 2015 Posted 4 September 2015 northern ireland qualify if they beat hungary in a few days. madness.
shen Posted 4 September 2015 Posted 4 September 2015 Ahem... Brainfart Also, are you supporting them because they're basically Switzerland mk II ?
Nalis Posted 4 September 2015 Posted 4 September 2015 Beat Hungary on Monday and we are there! As for Albania, it would be a disaster if they qualified for obvious reasons.
MC Prussian Posted 4 September 2015 Posted 4 September 2015 Brainfart Also, are you supporting them because they're basically Switzerland mk II ? Well, I know a lot of those players in the national team from the Swiss football league - Djimsiti, Gashi, Taulent Xhaka (Granit's brother), Sadiku, Kukeli... I do believe they play smart and disciplined football under De Biasi and have some decent talent in their ranks. Fairplay to Denmark, your guys battered Albania to no end in the second half - but I was particularly impressed with goalkeeper Berisha, pulled off some great saves tonight. I don't see how you can blame Albania for retreating - other nations would've crumbled under that amount of pressure. And it nearly paid off at the very end...

Yup, they lived up to the expectations of being well-organised, determined and defensive, but they were not a patch on the Armenia side that beat us 0-4 during the last campaign. Obviously, I'm bitter about the whole drone-thing, that's twice Denmark have pulled the shortest straw when games have been decided by officials. But good luck to Albania, 'cause they'll need more of it! I would have thrown a right hissy fit had they scored the most undeserved of winners with their only attempt on target at the end though Thankfully Schmeichel was up to scratch!
Wymsey Posted 4 September 2015 Posted 4 September 2015 Can't really believe McAuley is still going at his age.
Webbo Posted 4 September 2015 Posted 4 September 2015 Can't really believe McAuley is still going at his age. All the stick he used to get on here. Great player.
marko Posted 4 September 2015 Posted 4 September 2015 Can't really believe McAuley is still going at his age. Even when he played for us I thought he looked mid 30's. I reckon he came out of the womb middle-aged.
CosbehFox Posted 5 September 2015 Posted 5 September 2015 Beat Hungary on Monday and we are there! As for Albania, it would be a disaster if they qualified for obvious reasons. Picture of some of Albania's squad posing with the Drone 'hero' floating about online last night.
MC Prussian Posted 5 September 2015 Posted 5 September 2015 Picture of some of Albania's squad posing with the Drone 'hero' floating about online last night. True - at least four players participated: That's Djimsiti, Cana, Xhaka, Gashi and two more that I can't identify. Could be staff members. A bit of a dim-witted idea.
Nalis Posted 5 September 2015 Posted 5 September 2015 Wouldnt expecting anything less from them, absolutely classless.
MC Prussian Posted 5 September 2015 Posted 5 September 2015 Wouldnt expecting anything less from them, absolutely classless. I wouldn't tar all of them with the same brush - let's just say some behave in rather simple ways when it comes to the powder keg that is Serbian/Albanian nationalism. The fact that only a small portion of players took part in it says it all. Shame, really. Because they're playing good football under De Biasi at the moment.
Jordan Posted 5 September 2015 Posted 5 September 2015 Switzerland turn 0-2 to Slovenia in the 80th minute to win 3-2 with a 94th minute goal. Drmic and Stocker, both substitutes, score the goals. Switzerland had all the possession but Slovenia's defending was resolute for 80 minutes... And then Slovenia just imploded. Unbelievable turnaround.

Unbelievable turnaround. was a great last 15, especially as I needed switzerland for the last leg of my bet. some shocking defending at the end tho!
MC Prussian Posted 5 September 2015 Posted 5 September 2015 Just left Basel. What a gruesome game with a happy ending for the home side. It felt so bad watching this tripe for 80 minutes. We looked bereft of any creativity, hardly went forward and let a highly efficient Slovenia punish us twice when it hurt the most. I'm happy with the result and the way we fought back. However, the general attitude on the pitch was a smack in the face for every Switzerland supporter. Wouldn't have happened with Inler in the squad. He's got to come back for Tuesday, Xhaka and Dzemaili had a real stinker today. It was only thanks to two substitutes (Drmic and Stocker) and a moment of genius from Shaqiri that we managed to come back from two behind.
Nalis Posted 5 September 2015 Posted 5 September 2015 Great comeback which virtually seals 2nd in the group. Also, well done to Austria for qualifying tonight!
MC Prussian Posted 5 September 2015 Posted 5 September 2015 Great comeback which virtually seals 2nd in the group. Also, well done to Austria for qualifying tonight! Thanks.☺️Austria aren't through yet, though. Russia beat Sweden 1-0 (with Ibrahimovic limping off at half-time), keeping their own slim chances of getting to France alive - at least for another three days. However, one point out of the last three remaining fixtures should do the trick for Red-White-Red.
Jimothy Posted 5 September 2015 Posted 5 September 2015 Great comeback which virtually seals 2nd in the group. Also, well done to Austria for qualifying tonight! Austria are only 7 clear of Russia with three games to play, surely they can still finish 3rd and end up in the play offs?

It was only thanks to two substitutes (Drmic and Stocker) and a moment of genius from Shaqiri that we managed to come back from two behind. Not a bad assessment--Switzerland had nothing going in the middle all game. All of Switzerland's play went down the right. Lichtsteiner ran his ass off. Shaqiri, despite all his hustle and bustle, was really missing his final ball. Drmic's fresh legs scored that first goal for him, and I have to say, Petkovic pushed all the right buttons. Ian Darke, of all people, had been begging Switzerland (esp Lichtsteiner and Shaqiri) to push it to the goal line and cut it back, and for someone to make a run, instead of just hitting crosses that the Slovenian CBs were getting more head to than a rapper's dick in the champagne room at a strip club. Lo and behold, Shaqiri finally does just that, Stockler scores, and the fight for a draw became a real chance to win. It's hard for a neutral to love this Swiss team, but it's harder to dislike them. They'll deservedly finish second in the group.
Nalis Posted 6 September 2015 Posted 6 September 2015 Sorry MC and Facecloth you are both right, seen a table on some ropey website with Austria on 21pts in error, just double checked and now realise they are on 19...
StanSP Posted 6 September 2015 Posted 6 September 2015 No Inler but Fuchs played for Austria. And if they do qualify, which looks like they will, it'll be the first tournament they ever qualify for. Great achievement especially in a group with Russia & Sweden. Basically it's all because of Fuchs

But yeah, the qualification is all thanks to Fuchs
