Euro 2016 Qualifying

Fair play to Rooney breaking the record. If Owen could stay fit that record would be far larger.

Rooneys first England goal assisted by the second best footballer to play for Ratby and Groby Juniors behind yours truly.

Impressed with Inler, looked very good today. Controlled the Swiss game and was constantly talking and organising. Range of passing good as well, kept thinking some of his long passes would be great if Vards was on the end of them

I thought inler look very promising at times.

Didn't know where to put this, but Syria are top of their group (still early days) in the World Cup qualifying.

Just imagine Syria in the World Cup...  :sweating:

A very tough game but we came out of victorious. For me apart from Rooney breaking the record, there was nothing eye catching about this fixture. Neither no positives or negatives. Switzerland looked good though and I think under the circumstances we deal with them well. I look forward to seeing us up against tougher opponents like Germany and France, just to see how far we've come since the world cup.

Another thing is with Rooney now breaking the record and qualifying. would it be wise to be maybe giving a rest for a bit and giving someone else a look on. I'm not saying Rooney should be dropped completely, just thinking of looking at other chances just in case, Rooney is injured prior to the tournament.

I am losing my patience with Sterling, he doesnt even try to use his pace and skill to go down the line, he keeps cutting in too early.Doing that he takes space from incoming players. He is apparently in the team for pace and skill in going by players.

last 5 games hes not even tried, commentators say he has improved on his defence. ..FFS we have defenders we need players who has something extra when attacking.I really dont know if he wants to showboat, but in his last 3 games he waits until 3-5 players are around him, then decides to take them on within a 6yard space.

Why cant we or himself play in the fashion everybody expects....is he going to be another John Barnes.

Milner great squad player, but we need better skilled players in the CM position.

We know what Milner can do, we had qualified, yes we correctly tried Shelvey, but a Walcott on the wing and Chamberlain should of been in Milners position.

a) as mentioned we've seen Milner

b) Chamberlain as been injured alot, so we should of seen what he and Barkley could of done.

What's the betting that Germany have loads of players like Adnan and Mohammed in ten years?

Those canny Germans know what they're doing.

Not a great performance again, but another win, I can't be enthusiastic about beating another average (at best) side. Thought Luke Shaw was very good, Smalling and Kane were good as well. We looked a lot better when Kane came on, Milner looked better as well. The 4-3-3 formation just didn't work, looked like we went to a 4-2-3-1/4-1-4-1 when Kane came on and looked more effective.

I know it's not nice but I was actually quite pleased to see Delph go down after 15 seconds, can't stand him and the fact he is even starting for England is worrying, especially as he hasn't played all season and Barkley has had a fantastic start to the season for Everton. Hodgson logic!

Now on to the main talking point of the evening, Wayne Rooney.. WHAT AN ACHIEVEMENT!

Seriously, to score 50 goals for your national side is special. A lot are discrediting Rooney because of the opposition and because of the lack of goals at major tournaments, fair enough, you have a point. But when was the last time an English striker succeeded at a major tournament on the goals front? Rooney in 2004. Before that? Shearer in 96, I think.

His goal scoring ratio for England is better than Lionel Messi's for Argentina and Ronaldo's for Portugal. Even two of the greatest ever footballers don't seem to set the world alight in international football. Messi and Ronaldo only have 8 World Cup goals between them in three World Cups! And I'm also pretty certain Ronaldo and Rooney are on the same amount of goals in European Championships on 5 each. And Rooney wasn't at Euro 2008!

So the best struggle in major tournaments, and I'm not for a moment saying Rooney is in the same breath as Ronaldo and Messi but it just emphasises this goal scoring achievement even more. Hopefully Rooney can go and get another 15 goals for England and you never know, can score a load in France next summer.

Fair points on Rooney. I still think there's a big debate to be had about what he brings to the table in terms of his all-round game but I'll save that for another time. A fantastic achievement for him. I just hope he keeps up this run of goals in France.

To be fair, we've absolutely romped this group in a highly efficient and professional manner.

However, as an England fan of many decades I've learnt to expect us to blow it in the finals once more.

I think we've got a good squad now. Oxlade needs to stay out of injury though. He's a good player.

Dare to dream?

Nah..... done it too often

Well hopefully Hodgson will use his brain and be advised not to take Daniel Sturridge, no need for him to be called up for this fixture.

13 days til we head out for Lithuania, buzzing now.

Hope Vardy will still be in with a shout after Sturridge's comeback yesterday. Top PL goalscorer so deserves it.

Proper buzzing for this now, should be a good craic.

So, 1 or 2 crucial qualifiers tonight....

Unless I'm mistaken:

- The Scots are almost out if they fail to beat Poland, and definitely out even if they draw IF Republic of Ireland scab a draw against the Germans

- N. Ireland will qualify if they win at home to Greece

- Albania qualify if they draw at home to Serbia and Denmark lose in Portugal....though that could depend on whether drones invade the pitch again

That's a bit premature. Firstly, this scenario will put them equal on points, but with Denmark above Albania because of superior goals scored away in the head-to-head. Secondly, Albania have a game in hand against Armenia. But it's definitely not unlikely that they will finish second!

why are they even letting serbia play albania they should both just be kicked out the competition

To be fair if it was up to me I'd abandon that fixture. Far more trouble than it's worth and it's ridiculously unfair that Albania haven't been punished for it whereas Serbia have.
