chris_lcfc_85 Posted 28 August 2014 Posted 28 August 2014 Looking at that squad really must give some of our players hope that they can get a call up this season. Chambers has been absolutely shocking this season, and has surely only been called up because he plays for Arsenal now. Not saying he's ready yet, but Liam Moore has looked far more impressive so far. I hope Chambers keeps his place in the Arsenal team on Sunday though! Drinkwater is another one who must be thinking he can make it; how Delph and Colback are getting call ups is beyond me. I was all for massive changes after the poor show in the world cup, but this is ridiculous. Quite possibly the worst England squad I've seen in 25 years! Whilst i agree, its not been helped with a few injuries particularly the midfield and wide areas with Barkely, Walcott, Lallana and even Rodriguez
zak_lcfc Posted 28 August 2014 Posted 28 August 2014 Surprised Huddlestone didn't get a call-up, been a solid midfielder for Hull. The U21 squad looks promising, a lot of Premier League youngsters in there some of which could soon become senior players, would say Moore isn't too far off considering out CB options at the moment and the start he's had to this campaign!
Danno Posted 28 August 2014 Author Posted 28 August 2014 People laughing at the Delph selection? Fully deserved in my opinion, Player Of The Year for Villa last season and he was excellent against Newcastle last week. Colback & Rose though are pointless selections, goes to show what we have to resort to because Gerrard & Lampard have retired, while Kieran Gibbs, Luke Shaw & Ross Barkley are injured. He's a player who looks alright in a shite team, just like Huddlestone.
kingcarr21 Posted 28 August 2014 Posted 28 August 2014 Jack Colback is known to some people as 'The Ginger Pirlo'
Brainy Posted 28 August 2014 Posted 28 August 2014 I thought people have wanted the manager for ages to pick on form and not name. Admittedly two games this season isn't much to choose from but we could recall Crouch and Barry if people would prefer that? I'd rather have players like Chambers picked whether in form or not, it'd be good to blood youngsters like him through an easy qualifying group who are more than likely going to be in and around our team for the next 10 years or more
kingfox Posted 28 August 2014 Posted 28 August 2014 He's a player who looks alright in a shite team, just like Huddlestone. We will see, but I think he deserves it and tbh it has been coming for a while. Aston Villa maybe shit, but the best thing about them is the midfield pairing of Delph & Westwood, an underrated partnership. The midfield yes doesn't scream out quality, but Right-Back is our major concern, Johnson & Walker are the first two choices(both injured), while Chambers, Dier, Jenkinson or Trippier will probably be next in line. Hopefully someone like Chambers & Dier can take to the International stage like a Duck to Water, or yet again our right back problems will be even worse than they already are.
Rasmic123 Posted 28 August 2014 Posted 28 August 2014 so we're still persisting with rooney despite the fact he's god awful for england. and now he's captain which means he'll never get dropped. while him and the other lazy prima donnas are in the team i shan't be supporting england.
Leicesterpool Posted 28 August 2014 Posted 28 August 2014 Delph Just shows that if Drinkwater has a half decent season, he can get a call up. Delph isn't that bad you know. name some decent english centre midfielders in the premier league that are better than Delph. On Rooney, him being captain isn't good news I'm not sure he's a big enough talker to lead the three lions. For me I'd like to have seen maybe Gary Cahill become captain.
6ups 6downs 2 cups Posted 28 August 2014 Posted 28 August 2014 And to think the original premise of the Premier League was that it would help the national team!! Well that was the public reason!

Yeah I'm struggling to name many other midfielders better than Delph but that's more reflective of how bad our national situation has got rather than Delph actually being any good. How can we expect to compete on the world stage when you look at thosr central midfield options(probably the most key area)
Darkon84 Posted 28 August 2014 Posted 28 August 2014 Jack Colback is known to some people as 'The Ginger Pirlo' Pirlo is not impressed. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8BVcyCBMzNQ
Grandad. Posted 28 August 2014 Posted 28 August 2014 The 'Ginger Pirlo' I can't believe Hodgson referred to Jack Colback as that. Delph had an ok year for Villa but bragging about being Aston Villa's player of the year is hardly a boast? They were terrible last season. Should be nowhere near the England squad. Danny Rose is there purely because Shaw and Gibbs are out injured so I can forgive that. Shame that Barry, Huddlestone and Rodwell have been over looked for Delph and Colback, the fact I think its a shame the first three have been over looked clearly says it all about the state of English football right now. God bless, Roy Hodgson.
filbertway Posted 28 August 2014 Posted 28 August 2014 Joe Hart Calum Chambers Phil Jones (Love this man! He will prove everyone wrong) Gary Cahill Leighton Baines Henderson Rooney Wilshere Sterling Sturridge Oxlade A bit like the Liverpool formation, to be honest, it doesn't matter who we play. Is this the one where about 75% of the teams in qualification qualify for the actual tournament?

Well done Grandad, excellent logic

Yet Aston Villa finished one point above Hull last season, and Delph was Villa's best player. Well done Grandad, excellent logic Well I don't base all my logic on League standings, but there you go.. If you remember rightly, through out of all last season I said Huddlestone shouldn't of been called up to the squad when it was the cool thing to do on here, like I said its the fact we have to mention these players for the England squad which is the worrying thing. Try and be sarcastic or whatever but Delph isn't good enough to be playing for England, Delph isn't even good enough to be starting for Wales in centre midfield, let that sink in.
Fox92 Posted 28 August 2014 Posted 28 August 2014 Hodgson, although I do not like him myself, didn't refer to Colback as the "the ginger Pirlo" it's someone he knows who said it.

And you know this because? Why should Huddlestone be called up & Delph shouldn't. Rodwell as well for that matter, a player who has rarely played in recent seasons. Yes Huddlestone was good & so was Jake Livermore for that matter, but any better than Fabian Delph? Nope not for me

Rodwell as well for that matter, a player who has rarely played in recent seasons. Yes Huddlestone was good & so was Jake Livermore for that matter, but any better than Fabian Delph? Nope not for me Because we are going on the present and not on last season and previous seasons.. Rodwell has had a good start to the season for Sunderland, so current form suggests he would be worth a shout. Huddlestone has played 4 competitive games already, scored and created a few goals and is playing well, so again he would justify a place ahead of Delph who has played 2 competitive games and hasn't been the greatest of players in Villa's two games. But then again when you're the player of the year for a club the previous season then you have every right to be in the England squad. I know Delph wouldn't start for Wales in the centre of midfield because he isn't better than Aaron Ramsey or Joe Allen, you know down to your logic anyway, both them players played for clubs who finished 4th and 2nd in the League.
RowlattsFox Posted 28 August 2014 Posted 28 August 2014 Hopefully Rodwell can get a full season has he has the potential to be a good player.
Hugo Sanchez Posted 28 August 2014 Posted 28 August 2014 That's squad is depressing, Delph is not a England international. We need to start again. This is Graham Taylor bad.

Well going by the Delph & Colback selections it would look otherwise. You are going to overlook players who have played well for a considerable amount of time, over a player in Rodwell's case who has rarely played, and only played two games this season. That's not going to happen, if Rodwell can prove his fitness & plays regularly as the season progresses, then he might well be in contention. Huddlestone has a case & so does Livermore, liked both of them last season & I've particularly liked Huddlestone for a while, going back to when he played for Spurs. Delph has been playing well for a considerable amount of time, last season he impressed so much so there was a bit of talk about him getting into the World Cup squad. Did you watch the game against Newcastle at the weekend? For me Delph controlled that midfield, looked very comfortable on the ball, and proved his class by bringing the ball forward and making some excellent runs. With a Welsh midfield of them two course he wouldn't get in, and neither would Huddlestone and others for that matter. Delph though is English, yet people instantly writing him off saying he isn't good enough, yet England fans bang on about bringing in new players & youth through, Delph deserves a chance whether he takes it we have to wait and see.
