England Squad vs Norway

Recommended Posts

Switzerland should be big favourites for Monday.

A defeat will then surely spell the end for Roy.  The FA will have taken heed of the dreadful world cup, negative tactics and uninspired play beforehand, but they will have been terrified tonight by the two thirds empty stadium, no-doubt awful viewing figures and subsequent grumblings from sponsors about their 'value for money'.

But if he survives Tuesday morning, then no doubt he won't after the potentially independent Scots beat us at their place in November.

Boring yet again.

Far too pedestrian, didn't utilise our pace enough, Sterling kept wanting to come inside second half offering very little width. They just played the ball to players who were surrounded by about 3-4 Norway players, which resulted in England having to play it back, the amount of times they passed back was atrocious.

Hodgson needs to go.

If we lose to Switzerland i think it's more likely Roy will resign rather than the Fa sack him, I Just can't imagine the Fa wanting to sack their "Yes man". I think if the fa wanted to have got rid of Roy they would have sacked straight after the world cup.

Oh and now people want to see the diamond being played.. Go through the England threads from the World Cup and see which obsessed Liverpool fan was telling you this should of happened then, with Gerrard as the deep lying play maker, Henderson and Wilshire as his dog midfielders in front of him and Sterling as the free man leading the diamond. So many seemed to know better.

It's that bad I didn't even realise we were playing Switzerland on Monday until I seen the last few posts in this thread, completely lost interest, barely watched any of the game tonight and the only thing that pleased me was that no Liverpool players limped out of the game.

Better late than never but finally, I think you've seen the light.

I truly believe that Vardy, Drinkwater and Liam Moore wouldn't look out of place in this England side at the moment.

I seen it when I seen the squad that Hodgson picked for this friendly and the qualifier. I know we have lost Gerrard and Lampard but **** me when Delph, Rose and Colback are being selected for England then that is the final straw for me. Until Hodgson goes then I will not have much of an interest, especially dog shit friendlies like tonight. Don't get me wrong, I will ALWAYS want England to win and succeed but whilst he is there I just can't see it happening.

You won't see me arguing over England games and selections now until Euro 2016, if we qualify that is.

Saying that if Sterling, Sturridge or Henderson get injured then I will be in that said thread kicking off massively. lol

No surprises tonight really.

I thought first half England were quite creative and trying some different things out going forward. Rooney was anonymous although apart from Sterling nobody really stood out.

I'm glad the penalty hasn't really glossed over what was an underwhelming game though. Norway were fvcking hopeless and England were never going to score from open play. Considering the shit they're lined up to play in the qualifiers they need to learn how to break teams down. With an extra qualifying spot in each group you can bet your life that teams like Lithuania and Estonia are going to be throwing absolutely everything at it defensively to get a point against England and Switzerland as it could give them the edge over the other.

Think there could be quite a few 0-0's in this group, starting Monday night.

For what it's worth England will qualify very comfortably but it's not about that. The performances have to improve and at the very least they need to go unbeaten in this group, if not with maximum points to restore a bit of interest from the public and belief in the team going into the next tournament.

They would. They play good football.

I think we're bloody lucky that they've made it 24 teams for the next Euros. I don't think we're a better side than Switzerland at the minute and I wouldn't fancy us against one of the other second placed teams in a play-off.

The performances are just awful. It's like they've never played together before.

I said sacking Hodgson will achieve nothing but neither will keeping him based on tonight. I've not heard his interview but I've no doubt it's the usual scraping the barrel for positives in what was about as shit a win as you could imagine. Compare that to Pearson who draws with Everton & Arsenal for a newly promoted side and focuses on where we can improve.

We've hit rock bottom for me. We've got a bang average manager who keeps his job by default.

That said I don't think even Mourinho would do much with England. The mentality from top to bottom just isn't there.

We get the ball out wide quick and plenty of times during a game but there's never anyone in the box.

I feel the same as most. I didnt even watch the game. Im still of the opinion we have some very talented players but it seems again that they are restricted by how Hodgson wants them to play.

Rooney by all accounts, was pedestrian?

There has to be someone and some way that we can get better performances out of this bunch. Im tired of the excuses.

Raheem Sterling is the only reason to watch England games at this moment in time

I like Daniel Sturridge a lot but Christ I wish he'd play a simple pass in & around the box every once in a while, always seems to over complicate things in an England shirt.

Wayne Rooney was so static last night it was a ****ing joke. The amount of times Wilshere/Henderson/Oxlade-Chamberlain/Sterling had the ball at their feet and were looking for movement in front of them only to see Rooney stood by a Norwegian defender was well in to double figures. Sturridge had brilliant movement, always looking to run in behind and drag defenders out of position, but nothing from the "chubby" overpaid England captain. If you are picking an in-form England side that waste of space would be nowhere near it.

England side for me with all players fit

Hart

Clyne

Cahill

Stones

Baines

Oxlade-Chamberlain

Wilshere

Henderson

Sterling

Barkley

Sturridge

Well Barkley wouldn't be in an in form England side as he's injured and has no form. And Sterling would be behind the striker.

I simply don't think we are good enough, people can blame the manager all they like but we continue to play terribly under various managers.  We all know it will take a revolution at grassroots to change how techincally skilled our players need to be but we also need the players to play smart, we seem lacking in intelligent players.  You can see this when we have the ball, we're so predictable.

We're so predictable because the manager is so predictable.

Say whatever you like about Capello but at least we were attacking and scored goals, the World Cup was a disaster but the qualification was good and it was good again up until the Terry fiasco.

But the players still are the ones creating what happens, when were on the ball we look clueless it's up to the other players to make things happen, the manager can't do that for them.

They are carrying out his orders?

The England manager has come out and said that England will play like Norway did last night away to Switzerland on Monday, what the actual hell?

I'm sorry but Hodgson is the problem with this squad, look how players like Baines, Cahill, Sterling, The Ox, Henderson and Sturridge shine for their club sides yet when they are under Hodgson and in an England shirt they are just average footballers.

For me last night they lacked someone in the middle who sits there to break up play. Henderson & Wilshere are very forward thinking midfielders, Gerrard in the last couple of years has become more defensive and even though the team haven't done that well, Gerrard was more than capable of doing defensive work, England don't have that outlet anymore unless they recall Gareth Barry or give Tom Huddlestone a chance.

If they play a diamond as well, the likes of Oxlade-Chamberlain & Sterling would be drifting inside too often, England are better with width & pace, if they are going to come inside and if the likes of Stones possibly playing at right-back who isn't the quickest, the pace will be incredibly slow and for me only Sturridge was the one who was moving, and trying to create space last night the likes of Rooney lacked movement.
