Guest Col city fan Posted 30 August 2014 Posted 30 August 2014 We need an attacking midfielder IMO. We've got defensive minded ones. Cambiasso, James, Hammond can all perform that role. But we need some flair, some creativity. A really good attacking midfielder who can pick a pass and, so importantly at this level, score a goal. Mahrez and Knockaert are raw at this level. They'll blow hot and cold IMO. I'd love to finish the squad off with a real quality attack minded midfielder. King, played further forward could do this. But I'd love to see a really cultured ball-player at the club. Someone who can pop up with a bit of magic and get us off our seats. We're looking solid enough. I'm chuffed with that. But have we enough goals in the side if the strikers aren't firing? And have we got the players to give them really good supply? A Ramsey, if you like.
Corky Posted 30 August 2014 Posted 30 August 2014 I can't wait the window to SLAM SHUT at whatever time it does so we can have months of talking about actual football rather than ITK's, people at training grounds looking gormless, Sky sources and presenters thinking we should amazed and proud about how much money is thrown around.

I read somewhere that Cambiasso has been used in this position for Argentina to accommodate other players to fit into the system, and he adopted it very well by all accounts. Maybe he can be more attacking than we think.
Spanner73 Posted 30 August 2014 Posted 30 August 2014 Great news with Simpson coming in , the only thing we now need is 2 quality strikers and NP knows he has to get them in its an absolute must for us , I feel it's our finishing that's the only thing that will let us down if we fail to bring in quality up front , ulloa and vardy are our strongest 2 but we need another duo , wouldn't be surprised if GTF went the other way , I would also consider Nuge going if we got 2 in

Would be brilliant to have someone like that

Spanner73 Posted 30 August 2014 Posted 30 August 2014 I'm Entitled to my opinion I like nuge a lot he's a really good player at championship level but tbf he hasn't got it at this level , it's something he struggled with last time round at Portsmouth , the same goes for GTF which leaves them surplus to requirements , id like to see nigel bring in 2 fast quality strikers

He's had one real good chance which was well saved, just as Costa had a one on one saved by Howard today. Give him a number of games against comparable opposition before making judgement.
Spanner73 Posted 30 August 2014 Posted 30 August 2014 Nigel always talks about "key moments" in games and if we're talking about Chelsea those chances or key moments have to be taken , this is the big unforgiving premier league it doesn't care if you didn't score those chances you had all season , like I said I like Nuge but he isn't good enough at this level goalscoring wise , I'm not saying getting a finisher is easy and yes it will cost money but it's a better option than what we currently have in Nuge and GTF I think vardy and Ulloa may be ok but I don't think we're blessed with striker talent , we were unfortunate with Deeney as I think he would have been very good for us

That move really didn't work out for him. He will do very well for us in the prem.

I'm currently undecided on Nugent as like you say, i want to give him a chance against teams other than the top 6 in the league, to see if he can do a job. It's harsh to write Nuge off just because he missed a couple of chances against Chelsea.

We need a couple of abrasive players, with flair, and top level experience. D Day, tomorrow.

I'm afraid that there are very few players of that ilk that don't blow hot and cold which is why the ones who can't turn it on game after game will cost £30m+. There is 0.1% chance of us being able to attract/afford a player like that as much as I'd like to see it happen. I do agree that we need someone who can bag a few from midfield though. If we do sign a quality striker (N'Doye) then that would be a good compromise but if not then somebody like Knocky/Riyad, who can operate wide and a bit further forward. I'd take a raw player because then at least you're giving yourself 3 types of players who can make things happen. King could score a few if he's given license to get forward (not happening if he plays alongside Drinky) but he's not really going to create things from nothing. Pandev is that number 10 player really who can play up top or wide in a 3 whilst being able to slot into a deeper role. Shame that he's not quite where he was a few years ago though.
LAprice_ Posted 31 August 2014 Posted 31 August 2014 Drinkwater popped up with a few goals last season. Andy King is the clubs highest goal scoring midfielder. Cambiasso likes to roam forward occasionally. James likes to shoot from long range, likewise for Hammond. I'm confident in these 5 players popping up with goals!
