Will NP?

Will np go onto eclipse MON?

been sat wondering today if np can go onto upstage the mon era. the reason I can't decide is, winning 2 cups will be hard to trump. however I always got the impression mon got by on sheer team sprit and determination, that never say die attitude.

however I think we have a similar thing now. but np is a little more tactical. we seem to be setting up differently and picking players to adapt to the opposition. under mon you knew it was 532 and 9 times out of 10 who would start.

I'm not knocking mon or that side. but I just wonder if maybe pearson could go as far as a top 6 finish over time?

Definitely plenty of similarities, but we wouldn't be able to keep him long enough these days for him to deliver 2 trophies and 5 top 10 finishes, he'd be poached a long time before that.

If he delivered the FA Cup this year and kept us up next year he'll have eclipsed Bloomfield and Gillies for me, then just O'Neill ahead of him.

I genuinely think he's an incredible manager and I think his personal achievements will eclipse MON's. Having said that, with the frequency that clubs bigger than ourselves are switching managers now, and with quite a few of the traditionally top-half sides struggling this season and Pearson's reputation growing I think we'd do well to keep him long enough for him to reach similar heights.

I think Nige has done more for our club than what any manager has or could do, took us up out of league one with ease and finished in the play offs with Steve Oakley on the fvcking wing.

In his second stint he's completely turned the club around with his hands tied financially, there's not many managers that leave a legacy at a club anymore but Pearson will.

If he won an a FA Cup here I'd say he would have surpassed MON.

I may be a little biased because I wasn't really old enough to take in the O'Neill era, but I completely agree with that.

I was tempted to think that but the more I thought about O'Neill the madder it seemed. Let's not forget O'Neill had his hands more or less tied financially the whole time. If NP led us to 9th or 10th this year, although he wouldn't use it we all know he'd be given a blank cheque by the Thais.

5 top 10 finishes and 3 cup finals with regular huge scalps in league and cup, at a time when we were poor and very unfashionable. O'Neill was a genius with us. That's what make the noticeable similarities between him and Big Nige's tenures so jizz-worthy.

I love Steve Oakley! Matty Howard might have scored more at that level though.

I don't know whether you're whooshing or not but Steve Oakley came from the pre season tour that we had with Sven.

I think he has the potential to but I doubt we'll be fortunate enough to keep him that long.

However I think NP will know when he's took us as far as he can

Posted

Who knows what will happen, but I would love for us to win the FA Cup sooner rather than later!, and NP to lead us to a Top 4 prem finish one day.

With the Thais backing anything is possible.

MON is a Legend, NP hasn't quite reached that level yet he hasn't won and Trophies (not counting the Championship) and he hasn't had several solid seasons in the Prem and lead us to European football, I think he has the Talent and the temperament to do it given time though

But football is a funny game i can remember watching Leicester play Sheff Utd at filbert street and half the Kop stayed behind chanting "MON FvCk OFF" it was the worst display of football i had ever seen from Leicester but i wouldn't have blamed MOn it was the players just not giving a ****, I dont know what was said after that game because he kept his job we went on a run got in the play offs, thel final and claridge scored in the last minute of extra time, the rest is history. Its just unbelievable how close he came to losing his job and how he turned from the most hated person at Leicester to a modern legend

can't see nige leaving, he seems to like the club and its owners, is well recompensed and his ambition can grow as far as the owners pockets will let it. it's not a stretch to see that in 3 years there would only be 4 or 5 domestic jobs that could even tempt him.

Pearson could easily go on to be the greatest Leicester manager of all time, I hope it happens a top 10 finish and an FA Cup is such a realistic possibility for a club like us I hope we have a good go at a Cup run again soon

He could, but as a couple have said I have a bad feeling we aren't going to be able to keep hold of him for too long, Liverpool took a chance on Rodgers after doing something similar at Swansea to what it appears Nigel will do here. I honestly think he'll be on the radar of the clubs around 5th-7th in this division come the end of the season.

Let's just enjoy him while he is here.

Easily, an FA Cup win is something I've always wanted. He would surpass everyone in history were he to bring it here along with what he has done.

I was sat in the family stand that game, remember it quite clearly. Wasn't that also Muzzy and Lennon's debut?

The biggest difference between MON and Nige, is where they started from. When MON took over we were already a top half second tire team. He then improved the team without much money. Nige took over from a worse position the first time and the second time you could say an even worse position in a lot of ways. Getting rid of those over paid Sven player was a huge task. I know we have more money now, but I don't think Nige spent more than MON, when you take into account the inflated price of players these days. I think we have to wait for a few more years to compare their achievements though.

Already has p for me. Completely transformed us from our lowest point into a strong top tier team that pkay attractive football. Also that we have a lot of english players

If he wins the FA  Cup he eclipses the achievements of any manager we've ever had. He only needs to do that once.

(Hint hint, take the cup seriously, Nige)

Yea it might well have been probably Lennon because i remember Muzzy coming on loan from Chelsea and having a few good games, It one of the few games that brought me to tears i was so frustrated with the team nobody was playing like they cared just hoofing the ball up the pitch it was awful suprised we only lost 2-0 i wasn't one of the fans singing for MON to leave i remember that i felt bad for him at the time if im honest, it was like the players had just given up on him and didn't care

Clubs that finish around 5th-7th? I think we will be one of those teams.

I think that - can't see Pearson leaving in a hurry. However if he keeps our performances up I really wouldn't be surprised if an Arsenal or someone offered him something he couldn't refuse in 3 or 4 years time. Not financially motivated but he may well want a real crack at winning the PL.
