I've just started collecting boxed figures . I reckon i must have 20 or so now and i figured they might be worth something in a few years.

Does anyone else collect anything and why do you collect them ?. Do you just like them or do you think your collection might increase in value.

i kind of collect beer mats. for no reason. just robbed one cos it looked cool once and have continued to rob cool ones ever since. got them from all over england and europe. my one from the bulldog cafe in amsterdam is my favourite i think, or a particularly cool looking metal one taken from a bar in bratislava.

i collect em cos they end up having a story behind them i guess.

I collect antique pottery and have a nice collection of Clarice Cliffe, Beswick and Royal Doulton. I love the bloody stuff. It's good stuff to collect actually (if you're into collecting) because it looks good and will only appreciate in value the older it gets.

I'd have never done anything like this when I was younger, considering it to be square. Now I appreciate it for what it is...delicate, beautifully created and valuable.

I did have a fairly extensive Sega Master System collection (about 200 boxed games, boxed controllers and boxed console) but flogged it all about a month ago. I thought I'd be sad to see it go but wasn't.

For someone who doesn't really play guitar I have far too many guitars (3 electric, bass, acoustic, electric mandolin)

Also 2 full drum kits, about 10 snares and a dozen cymbals - wish I had somewhere to play them

Roman Coins, because I have always been interested in Roman history. They look good, and go up in value.

Autographs, particularly those of Western's stars. Interesting, and appreciate in value.

I have my collection of diecast models. Though it does change all the time because I buy them, keep them for a bit and sell them on. Sometimes for profit. I only keep my best ones. Literally have models that I've bought for £30 and could easily sell for £100+.

Used to go to the fairs and everything, haven't been for a few years now.

what's pointless?  Music, Art?   Besides how can collecting be pointless if you enjoy it?

I'd rather have something useful like a car, a house or clothes than spend money on an art collection.

Read Maslow's hierarchy of needs.

Quite relevant here.

Just put Antiques Roadshow on and they have a subuteo set.Not great condition but it has two footballs and they have valued it at from £1500. I'm sure I saw a set in a charity shop a little while ago.
