Bellend Sebastian Posted 8 January 2015 Posted 8 January 2015 Well, it's in his interests, isn't it? The Greens will split the Labour vote in the same way as UKIP will split the Tory one, to some extent
Webbo Posted 8 January 2015 Posted 8 January 2015 tbh if there are 5 different party leaders on the shows they'll be unwatchable. I'd much prefer Cameron versus Milliband.
Guest MattP Posted 8 January 2015 Posted 8 January 2015 Well, it's in his interests, isn't it? The Greens will split the Labour vote in the same way as UKIP will split the Tory one, to some extent Add that to the fact these things are never good for the sitting PM, the opponent can shout all sorts of untruths about what they are going to do even if they can't and the sitting PM has to defend things they have actually done. tbh if there are 5 different party leaders on the shows they'll be unwatchable. I'd much prefer Cameron versus Milliband. I actually agree with this, it would already be unwatchable with Bennett screaming across everyone in her Australian accent but even 4 is too many in reality. Wonder how many Green supporters would tune in expecting to Caroline Lucas? Should have Farage v Clegg as an undercard (although I suppose we've seen that) and then Miliband v Cameron as the Main Event, both asked exactly the same questions so they can put their viewpoints across and their party policy on it.
purpleronnie Posted 8 January 2015 Posted 8 January 2015 Labour should walk the GE....but they won't because of Miliband, I can't imagine too many Labour voters want him as leader, I don't. It wouldn't surprise me if the Tories actually win more seats than Labour which would show how Miliband has blew Labour's chances. The silver lining of a Labour defeat would be Miliband being replaced. Maybe Tories think the same way about Cameron?. But I guess we stick with the Parties we believe in despite their weak leaders. Because the policies are more important.
Guest MattP Posted 8 January 2015 Posted 8 January 2015 With the deficit we have and the cuts every single government is going to have to make from now on I think any sitting government is going to have a hell of a fight holding onto office. We've got a nation full of people who expect everything for very little and very few realise it was all bought on borrowing money we now have to pay back.

I think this is why no one really wants to get a majority.
Buce Posted 8 January 2015 Posted 8 January 2015 http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-30726499 Cameron refuses to take part in the debates if the Green Party aren't included. Let's not pretend that Cameron is sticking up for the Greens; he's running scared of these debates, and this is just a handy 'get out clause'.

The Doctor Posted 8 January 2015 Posted 8 January 2015 Let's not pretend that Cameron is sticking up for the Greens; he's running scared of these debates, and this is just a handy 'get out clause'. More likely that Bellend has got it - he's playing a game to split labours vote by pushing the greens in peoples faces, and it helps his image if he looks like he's sticking up for the smaller parties. Frankly the debates should just be labour vs tory - while it's not as much of a two party system as in the US, it is still pretty much a 50/50 choice between a labour or tory government.
shade Posted 8 January 2015 Posted 8 January 2015 China's not doing bad. the rest of the world are the debtors behind that.
Guest Kopfkino Posted 8 January 2015 Posted 8 January 2015 without debt the economy can't grow, one or the other. Doesn't mean you need public debt nor does it have to be as high as it is, needs to come down. China's not doing bad. They have public debt
Guest MattP Posted 8 January 2015 Posted 8 January 2015 Let's not pretend that Cameron is sticking up for the Greens; he's running scared of these debates, and this is just a handy 'get out clause'. Who on earth is pretending that? without debt the economy can't grow, one or the other. Not 1, 400 billion worth.
Rincewind Posted 8 January 2015 Posted 8 January 2015 What the Doctor said. If Cameron makes the Greens look bad in the debate and likening them to an extreme left Labour it will put him in a better light and shift the focus away from his own flaws. But some will not believe that he can be a scheming weasel like those on the left and only think the loony left are capable of such things. I, on the other hand taking a neutral POV on this occasion suspect that politics involves quite a bit of scheming from all sides.
Guest MattP Posted 8 January 2015 Posted 8 January 2015 Cameron, for one. Well of course, you seriously expect Cameron to come out and say 'I demand the Greens are in because they'll take votes off Ed"
Buce Posted 8 January 2015 Posted 8 January 2015 Well of course, you seriously expect Cameron to come out and say 'I demand the Greens are in because they'll take votes off Ed" No, that's not what I'm suggesting. Cameron is hoping that the Greens will remain uninvited, so he will be able to use it as an excuse to back out of the debates.
Guest MattP Posted 8 January 2015 Posted 8 January 2015 Ah got you. I actually think he'd be delighted to do them if the Greens were on as despite him probably struggling with Farage he'd be able to bully Miliband a bit like he does at PMQ's. Cameron would be on a stage with one other bloke who could take votes off him and most of them have gone anyway, Miliband would be in an arena he's fairly poor in with two people up there ready to take votes off him.

Webbo Posted 8 January 2015 Posted 8 January 2015 Anyone watching question time tonight? Thoughts? Comments? How come Tarzan is always clean shaven?
Darkon84 Posted 8 January 2015 Posted 8 January 2015 How come Tarzan is always clean shaven? You know what, you read my mind! That, I feel, is one of the most important things we need answering right now . I always wondered why there were lions in the jungle where he resided though?!
Guest Kopfkino Posted 9 January 2015 Posted 9 January 2015 Diane Abbot again shows how useless she is on This Week
Finnegan Posted 14 January 2015 Posted 14 January 2015 Al Murray to run against Farage in Thanet South
Guest MattP Posted 14 January 2015 Posted 14 January 2015 Al Murray to run against Farage in Thanet South What on earth? Is it a serious Al Murray making a political effort or just a pisstake pub landlord style effort?
Finnegan Posted 14 January 2015 Posted 14 January 2015 It's as the Pub Landlord. His manifesto is brilliant, it involves sending Boris to an island, Salmond to Norwich and the unemployed to prison.
