Colitis/Chrohns/IBS

Hey guys and girls, I've been fairly busy over the last couple of weeks so haven't been posting much. Last night I was also admitted to hospital with suspected Ulcerative Colitis.

Just wondering if anyone on here has any first hand experience of this or related intestinal issues. I know it can be quite serious and it could be something I have to deal with for the rest of my life but just looking for a bit of info (doctors have been great but are obviously very clinical about it, it's not very anecdotal).

Hope you're all feeling better than me!

My brothers got Chrohns! It's pretty horrendous! He's had countless operations, liquid feeds etc. not nice at all!

Not particularly nice, I've had *ew* bloody diarrhoea for the past few weeks and am going 10-15 times every 24 hours usually. Other than that I don't feel too bad apart from a bit of stomach pain here and there.

I've had a tube shoved in the wrong end and my lower intestine is bright red (inflammation) but should be a pale pink. Doc has said he's pretty certain but they've taken some biopsy samples so should hear back in about a week.

Just taking it a step at a time at the mo, pretty bummed out (excuse the pun) but shit happens (I can't stop, seriously!).

Christ hospitals are tragic (obviously, but still...) I'm pretty sure I'm the only person of sound mind on this ward. Nearly everyone is 70+, those that aren't seem to have mental conditions to go with whatever physical thing they're in for. Lots of people making noises and there's an old chap who I think has dementia that wanders around day and night shouting someone's name over and over. I've not been in for anything other than outpatients before and I'm not looking forward to the next week!

I'll keep you posted, there's not much to do in here so I'll hopefully be on a fair bit this week to revel in our win this afternoon.

Cheers for the best wishes as well, much appreciated :)

Sounds like some is playing for some horse cards...

I hope it's not too serious, and is just a passing problem, excuse the pun (if any).

I'm thankful in actually waking up and not just making a state of my bed. I've mainly just been off-work sleeping and shitting.

Think I'm gonna be in at least over the weekend, doc said probably a week though while they see how I react to treatment, could be longer though if it's not great.

My best mate has Chrohns, he has infusions of a fairly new drug called Infleximab which he says has done him wonders. Might be worth mentioning to him, my mate might have been part of an experimental group though.

From what I can tell with Colitis it sounds a bit more treatable but I'll have to wait and find out.

Yes.Think he has the ulcerative colitis.

Yeah that's what they've said. Doc's just come round for a chat, should know by monday how the treatments going. He's said I'll be in 5 days min then hopefully they'll be able to switch me onto tablets and then onto a more permanent lot of meds.

Friends are going to take the dog for a walk and have lunch at a pub in the peaks today. This is depressing lol

When the horses are rounded up put me down as part of the posse.

Good luck. its no fun in those places.Thankfully my bed partners were a little saner but still old even compared to me.

I've got Crohns.

Symptoms started in 2003 and gradually got worse and worse over a couple of years until I ended up having emergency surgery in 2005 and in hospital for a month.

Now I just have to control it with medication and have been pretty much fine since bar one little flare up.

Once you're out of hospital you'll have to do a little bit of experimenting with different food & drink to find out what your belly likes and dislikes etc. I know if I go out on the piss and eat a load of crap I'm going to be spending most of the next day on the toilet. Same goes for dairy and spicy foods.

Join Facebook and Twitter colitis/crohns groups, it helped me reading other peoples stories.

Lastly, don't let it get you down. I just carry on as normal, no point letting this stupid illness dictate how you live your life.

I used to get IBS pretty badly, and sometimes it can be bad when I get anxious nowadays.

What you have sounds a hell of a lot worse than my experience though. I hope that you feel better soon.

I don't have IBS, Crohn's or UC, but I've not had a solid poo since about 1988 and I've been a 3 or 4 times a day man my whole adult life.

Oh, and "Dr" Gillian McKeith would have to wear a fvcking gas mask to rake through mine.

This all coincided with me starting to drink ale, but correlation does not equal causation. ;)

Poos shaped like a perfectly squeezed bit of toothpaste are an utter myth, propagated by vegan bastids, as far as I'm concerned.

Get well soon Haydos. Let's hope City cheer you up later.

Hi mate

Sorry to hear you've not been well. Hopefully the test results will show something positive?

Careful with what they come back with, and be forceful if you need to. In my experience IBS becomes a dumping ground (excuse the pun) for all sorts of stuff, but does't really help prevent, it only treats the results i.e. violent shits.

Do you know if they are doing any allergy tests? My wife is a coeliac and had similar issues before she was properly diagnosed. Fine now but we manage diet accordingly.

Shout if you have an questions
