Guest Col city fan Posted 11 November 2014 Posted 11 November 2014 I think there is a ligitimate argument in saying that being overly cautious and focusing so much on stopping the opposition is a bad tactic. His comments on stopping the opposition dominating possessition don't make much sence as Everton and Arsenal dominated the ball against us, yet we drew whilst posig a threat as well as playing with wingers. I am not opposed to the diamond as any formation can win you a match but the players playing in the diamond don't look comfortable at all doing so. At the top of the diamond you need somebody to attack like a Knocky or Mahrez, King just doesn't fit in at the top of it.I've made it completely clear that I don't want our most successful manager of recent times to be sacked. I stick with this and would do so even if we look to be getting relegated. So that's my view. What this doesn't mean is that I am not becoming concerned with Pearson, at least currently. Tactically, we are all over the place, I'm not yet impressed with our signings and I don't like this perceived attitude he has with the media of 'shut the fook up and stop criticising' (which is how he seems to be coming across, at least to me). Nigel, I like you, I have faith in your managerial skills. Cmon mi old son, start showing us now what you can do. Then you can tell us all to shut up. I don't think I can be any fairer than that.
Babylon Posted 11 November 2014 Posted 11 November 2014 As I said in another thread, he needs to be careful with this. If we had clearly made some very good signings (IMO we haven't) AND if we were clearly showing signs of improvement (we aren't), then he could could tell his critics to shut up. Actually and slowly, he's starting to grate a little.... Football is about fans, it's about opinions.. And many of us, I would suggest, feel he's getting it wrong currently. We need to see ideas, no denial and most importantly, results. Essentially, he needs to start backing up his dismissal of 'negativity' with 'positivity'. Then, we'll all be going home happy. The Sunderland game is a biggy. “I accept there is going to be criticism at times and people question why there is no wide player in there,” he said. As he said he accepts critisism, but not the over the top stuff. Which is spot on. There is a lot of fair critisism on here, but also a lot of nonsense where people go looking for things to slam him about. It's moronic really.
Manwell Pablo Posted 11 November 2014 Posted 11 November 2014 I'm still very much behind this man, I don't care what anyone else thinks I'm behind but surely he and everyone else can see we can't play four central midfield players!
cc_star Posted 11 November 2014 Posted 11 November 2014 This just makes him sound more clueless. So he played 4 centre midfielders so Southampton didn't boss possession? We had 35% Nigel. Oh and strikers need chances, for chances you need creativity. #Denial How much would they have had had we played the 442 many people want, perhaps the 8-0 scoreline some people though might have happened actually would have rather than us not be far away from grabbing an unlikely point There's some denial going on alright, but it from a pretty vocal minority who've just been waiting for a moment like this. Pearson right yet again! Anyway, Sunderland, QPR & Villa in 3 out of our next 4 game are big ones, huuuuge, and our performance levels need to massively improve for us to get the results we need out of them, if we don't then even the staunchiest of Pearson fans will have just cause for massive concern
filbertway Posted 11 November 2014 Posted 11 November 2014 Hahaha, never has the word "SLAM" been less relevant. It reminds me of the classic line *insert team name*'s Ace does something...
WardyisPukka Posted 11 November 2014 Posted 11 November 2014 Well here's some more for you Captain...... From the OS to boot! Leicester City manager Nigel Pearson believes his side must retain their identity throughout the entirety of the season in order to impose their style of play on opposition teams. The Foxes boss has played a number of formations so far this season, most recently fielding Esteban Cambiasso, Matty James, Danny Drinkwater and Andy King in a midfield diamond in Saturday’s Barclays Premier League loss to Southampton. City produced a defiant display and managed possession well on occasions as Pearson looked to exploit a side who are known for their ability to retain the ball. Finally succumbing to a five-minute double from Shane Long, City returned to Leicester empty-handed, but will take plenty of positives from the game after facing a side that sit second in the league. “You’ll find most teams play with an extra man in the middle of the park,” said Pearson. “Most good Premier League sides are passing teams. You need to have the ball enough. Key areas in midfield remain the central areas. “We have players that are capable of performing well in wide areas but what you can’t do is set up in a way which concedes too much possession to sides who can potentially out-manoeuvre you. “I always feel it is the same process – who is best suited to try and get a win in this game. People want to look at systems a lot but we played 4-4-2 a lot last season but played about five different systems. “What is important is you retain your own identity in terms of the type of team that you are. Our game is all about a good, collective work ethic playing at a good tempo regardless of the system. “I’ve been told we’ve played 4-4-2 sometimes this year and it’s not actually been that. It’s how you perceive it. “If you’re the best side, generally speaking you can impose your system of play on other teams – the top teams in the Premier League do it. You could argue last season we did that. We have to be a bit more streetwise." Read more at http://www.lcfc.com/news/article/111114-pearson-we-must-retain-our-identity-2076578.aspx#XgwHzrj77Y7j6RAT.99 He's contradicting himself there - need to have the ball enough - well Nigel we barely had any on Saturday down to your stubborness and not changing the system when we went 1-0 down - he should of changed the system after 60 mins and introduced marhez and taken drinky off as he was struggling He can talk about identity all he wants but this diamond formation isnt our identity FFS

Ah..the old Babylon defend a manager at all costs thing.. There's an awful lot of other stuff posted in that article, yet you pick out one line to focus on. C'mon..get some balance. My view is that Pearson needs to 'do his talking' with results. Look at Pardew at Newcastle. Then we'd all shut up.
Hirsty The Blue 94 Posted 11 November 2014 Posted 11 November 2014 As I have posted in another thread, we don't have enough dynamism and quality to play 2 centre midfielders at this level. Drinky and James are not strong enough and do not posses the quality at this level to play as a two. Therefore we have the option of sacrificing wide players or sacrificing a striker. Pearson has been criticised for both this season. Remember we played wingers against Palace, Newcastle and Swansea without any attacking threat. 1 clean sheet all season tells it's own story, and we need to adress that issue just as much as the lack of goals.
Manwell Pablo Posted 11 November 2014 Posted 11 November 2014 seenitall has got to be preparing a come back, if we lost to Sunderland i reckon he's all over it.

I picked out one point because I'm addressing one particular point. My point is and always will be the same, fair critisism is fine. The problem is it often doesn't stop at that and people go searching for shit to throw without any basis for it. Like we had previously with people slating for for "fall outs" etc.
ScouseFox Posted 11 November 2014 Posted 11 November 2014 i'd even accept starting games negatively but then when we get to an hour or 70 minutes drawing or losing we need to give it a go. at the moment pearson seems to be of the mindset that 0-0 is a corker of a result, then when it goes 0-1 he seems to still be thinking yeah that's not too bad either, carrying on playing defensively and still not trying to score. there's no point "staying in games" if as soon as they score you're completely out of it because we're never going to score ourselves.
Guest Col city fan Posted 11 November 2014 Posted 11 November 2014 seenitall has got to be preparing a come back, if we lost to Sunderland i reckon he's all over it. ..I'm amazed he's not popped up already...who was that other poster who was completely negative? I can't recall his name but he was amazing! That said, let's be honest..if we now go on a run of two or three wins, we'll have everyone again saying we got worried far too early and that 'they always knew Nige would turn it round' etc.. It's just how it is..I learn to live with it. i'd even accept starting games negatively but then when we get to an hour or 70 minutes drawing or losing we need to give it a go. at the moment pearson seems to be of the mindset that 0-0 is a corker of a result, then when it goes 0-1 he seems to still be thinking yeah that's not too bad either, carrying on playing defensively and still not trying to score. there's no point "staying in games" if as soon as they score you're completely out of it because we're never going to score ourselves. I've just checked his profile and he has actually already come back and had a little snipe, so if this carrys on he'll become more and more prominent no doubt. On a general note I am amazed at the amount of fans that want him sacked, I can remember polls in the summer suggesting the vast majority would have wanted him to stay if we were bottom at Chirstmas never mind just inside the bottom 3 in November
indierich06 Posted 11 November 2014 Posted 11 November 2014 People have got a right to moan about recent results, but it's clear who Pearson is referring to in this item - the wholly unprofessional Ian Stringer with all of his 'is this the end for Nigel Pearson' nonsense. An absolute sensationalist clown who should have been sacked along with Young at the end of last season.

The problem was always the insistence on looking at things SO negatively.. Very little balance given IMO.

Itsthejoeker Posted 11 November 2014 Posted 11 November 2014 He has a fairly good point regarding possession, especially with the Barca style of possession football poisoning the minds of every bloody football manager around.
m4DD0gg Posted 11 November 2014 Posted 11 November 2014 He has the nerve to slam negative critics!! How about stop playing negative football then!!!!

There was almost always some sense in them, if you strip it right back and remove all of the rhetoric then there was a basis for a good point, he often couldn't just leave it at that and just had to blow it up and exaggerate the problem.

Football fans are a very different breed these days, a tough crowd. For what it's worth my situation and viewpoint still stands, I wouldn't be getting rid at any point during the season and would assess the situation in the summer whatever happens.
Monsell1976 Posted 11 November 2014 Posted 11 November 2014 Forget wether you like Pearson or not, the bloke isn't doing himself any favours, to try and tell us he's playing this formation to stop other teams dominating the ball, and making us endure shit football, would be understandable if it works. But to insult people's intelligence, is another thing, we are not having a fair amount of the ball, and look lost when we so have it, and it's clear when watching we have no threat, and just waiting to let a goal in. The formation doesn't work, he hasn't got the players that can make it work, more or less by his own criticism of his players, so stop trying a formation that should have been perfected pre season, and players brought in to suit, and get back to the way we played to get 9 points. I'm trying to stick by him, but he needs to wake up and take the negative criticism he brought on himself

Corky Posted 11 November 2014 Posted 11 November 2014 It may be but Nige could put a stop to stringers games with one phone call. Ban him from all interviews. He shouldn't do that, I like the fact he doesn't hide when we lose and ban people for asking questions like other managers have done.
J.Lisemore Posted 11 November 2014 Posted 11 November 2014 Anybody else of the opinion that he's just over-thinking in terms of tactics and formations? seems to me he's doing a brilliant job at making football very complicated.
cjslcfc Posted 11 November 2014 Posted 11 November 2014 He shouldn't do that, I like the fact he doesn't hide when we lose and ban people for asking questions like other managers have done. It's amazing isn't it. One minute Pearson is slated for answering questions from the media. If he decided to refuse to answer questions he'd get dogs abuse from many quarters. The guy can't win. He can't (and shouldn't) stop the media asking questions. However, the way certain lines and quotes are taken out of context in many cases does build up a lot of problems and some fans seem to love to jump on it. When reading articles you have to bear in mind the sort of question he was probably asked. Let's all remember he doesn't go out of his way to speak to the OS or the Mercury and start telling them this stuff. It's part of his duty as manager to respond to questions and I always feel he is quite honest and balanced.
