davieG Posted 12 November 2014 Posted 12 November 2014 Leicester City Development Squad coach Nicky Eaden felt Wednesday’s friendly defeat to West Bromwich Albion was a good chance for players to get some game time despite the result. Goals from Silvestre Varela and Brown Ideye meant the City XI slipped to a 2-0 loss against the Baggies, but the game proved to be a useful work out, with several first-teamers involved alongside a mixture of Under-21s and Under-18s players. Anthony Knockaert, Danny Simpson, Marc Albrighton, Nick Powell and Tom Hopper all played 90 minutes at Belvoir Drive against a club that the first team clashed with just 11 days ago. “It’s a training ground game,” said Eaden. “First and foremost it was used to get game time for some of the first team lads who haven’t been getting regular games. “You’re never sure how these games are going to turn out because players sometimes find it difficult to operate at 100 per cent. Sometimes you don’t get a good tempo as you do with the league games. “They’ve got what they needed out of the game which is 90 minutes – it’ll keep their fitness topped up in case they’re called on by the manager.” And Eaden was full of praise for youngster Jack Barmby. Traditionally a winger who has operated as a left-back in recent games for the Development Squad, he scored a stoppage time winner in a 3-2 victory over former side Manchester United in the Barclays U21 Premier League last week. Eaden added: “He’s done great. Barmby’s surprised a few people, myself included. If anything, when he’s playing left midfield, the defensive part of his game is the weakest part. “Sometimes when players have a change of position they have to concentrate a little bit more and really think about what they’re doing. “The defensive part of his game has been great.
