foxes_rule1978 Posted 6 September 2015 Posted 6 September 2015 Nightmare for Kimi! Never got going... what happened there
Carl the Llama Posted 6 September 2015 Posted 6 September 2015 Anyone out there able to explain what went on with Hamilton & Mercedes at the end there?
Steven Posted 6 September 2015 Posted 6 September 2015 Anyone out there able to explain what went on with Hamilton & Mercedes at the end there? Tyre pressures.
jammie82uk Posted 6 September 2015 Posted 6 September 2015 Anyone out there able to explain what went on with Hamilton & Mercedes at the end there? in short "The measured minimum tyre pressure on the left hand side rear tyre of car number 44 [Hamilton] was 0.3 PSI below the specified minimum tyre starting pressure," a statement from the FIA technical delegate read. "And the measured minimum starting pressure of car number 06 [Rosberg] was 1.1 PSI below the specified minimum starting pressure." However, after a lengthy investigation it was decided that Mercedes had acted appropriately and Hamilton's victory would be allowed to stand. "In making this determination regarding the pressures, the stewards noted that the tyre warming blankets had been disconnected from their power source, as is a normal procedure, and the tyres were significantly below the maximum permitted tyre blanket temperature at the time of the FIA's measurement on the grid; and at significantly different temperatures from other cars measured on the grid.'
Brainy Posted 7 September 2015 Posted 7 September 2015 I'll take the word from those who know what they're talking about over a bitter Williams fan. Shame Raj will have missed the drama after he turned off on lap 2. Anyway, Hamilton 1st in P1, P2, P3, Q1, Q2, Q3, wins the race, leads every lap and gets fastest lap.

DennisNedry Posted 7 September 2015 Posted 7 September 2015 Lovely stuff seeing Rosberg's engine give up the ghost yesterday. Hamilton looks odds on for the Championship now, barring an unusually bad run of results. Spa & Monza were both dull races though in truth, makes me fear for the Singapore GP which is sleep inducing on a good day!

No wonder world wide interest in F1 is falling. Every circuit should have at least four overtaking spots and something needs to be done to the cars to allow them to get closer to each other.

Even you've got to admit it's a little bit of a turn off given the ridiculous disparity in cars at the moment, though. I take your point earlier in the thread about a race can still be exciting with good battles lower down the order but when you're watching an undoubtedly genius driver like Alonso (and I'm neither a fan of his or Mclaren) getting destroyed on a straight by Torro Rosso and Sauber rookies it's a bit silly. Especially when Lewis is just time trialling at the front in a car so disproportionately better than everyone else's (except his team mate who just isn't really in his league in terms of ability) that the outcome had become hugely predictable. As a neutral, I want to see a reasonably even field. The big teams will always be the big teams and the quality of the car will always matter but the massive chasms between Mclaren, Ferrari, Red Bull, Williams and Mercedes at the moment is just making for a procession. I'm not a hardcore fan, I'll only watch if they can keep my interest and right now they just can't. I've been watching since I was a kid and even the days of Schumacher vs everyone weren't as boring as this. I'm with Villeneuve, people don't want fake excitement like DRS and fast degrading tyres, they want competitive racing.

Hamilton looks odds on for the Championship now, barring an unusually bad run of results. Spa & Monza were both dull races though in truth, makes me fear for the Singapore GP which is sleep inducing on a good day! why is it lovely? the only slight contender is now a considerable distance away, which kills any competitive edge we had a chance of this year. And to top if off Mercedes broke the rules during the race, which haven't been penalised in anyway. This season has been much worse than last year, while I hated the cringeworthy versus between Hamilton and Rosberg with all these Senna and Prost comparisons, I'd take that over this. I'm worried about next year, because it doesn't look like it's at all going to get any better. I'm worried about next year, because it doesn't look like it's at all going to get any better. Why? Ferrari have made huge progress this year and even with Mercs new engine which in all fairness was very dominant in the race, time differences in qualifying are getting shorter and shorter. And we've seen what can happen if Ferrari are ahead into T1 this season. Even you've got to admit it's a little bit of a turn off given the ridiculous disparity in cars at the moment, though. I've been watching since I was a kid and even the days of Schumacher vs everyone weren't as boring as this. I'm with Villeneuve, people don't want fake excitement like DRS and fast degrading tyres, they want competitive racing. If you ask me it was alright up until the last two or three races because it has always been two drivers, unfortunately for some from the same team, that are usually very close. For whatever reason though the gap between Lewis and Nico is getting bigger (I don't mean points I just mean pace wise) and the question going into the weekend now is can Rosberg beat Hamilton, not who is going to beat who. It's weird how one sided qualifying has been this season especially since Rosberg outqualified Hamilton more often than not last year. Not sure what you're trying to say about a Sauber destroying Alonso down a straight. The whole McLaren-Honda project was probably quite exciting to him as well as $$$$ but they have the second worst car on the grid. It's a shame to see two drivers of their calibre stuck in a car like that but thats just how it is at the moment. Or is your point about DRS? I doubt any car would need an aid to help them overtake McLaren at the minute F1 has always been about who can build the fastest car, I know you haven't said it but I see others who say F1 should be about all drivers being in equal cars. No. Mercedes are just reaping their rewards for putting focus on the '2014 era' engines earlier than anybody else. And sadly for the audience not only have they built an engine that is faster than anybody elses, its dominantly faster than anybody elses. And it isn't just the engine, they've clearly put together a very good car too, even on tracks that aren't all about power they're still fastest. Maybe it's this way because of how complex the rules are that one team seems to have read them perfectly from the off and the rest are still playing catch up. Oh and yeah for the record i'll stick by what I said that I can appreciate a good battle for 9th place as much as a battle for 1st. It's always more bareable when its your favourite driver who is dominating but i'm not ignorant enough to sit here and say all races this season have been exciting. I still believe there are people out there who judge how exciting a race is by how many cars go airborne, or simply who won in the end. If a Merc had the kind of race that Vettel had at Hungary which was basically non eventful, people would say it was boring. One thing I think doesn't help though is Merc playing it too safe with strategy, it always seems to be the teams choice and not the drivers. The most exciting race in this new era is probably Bahrain 2014 when they split tyre strategy so Rosberg was quicker at the end. They pretty much never do that because they favour the guy in the lead too much. If I was in 2nd I would always look to do the opposite to what my teammate does.
The Horse's Mouth Posted 7 September 2015 Posted 7 September 2015 Why? Ferrari have made huge progress this year and even with Mercs new engine which in all fairness was very dominant in the race, time differences in qualifying are getting shorter and shorter. And we've seen what can happen if Ferrari are ahead into T1 this season. You'd have to be quite optimistic to think they'll ever match them next season, every step Ferrari makes Mercedes makes two in response. We're pretty much stuck with this until the engines change again. I hope to god I'm wrong mind.
Brainy Posted 7 September 2015 Posted 7 September 2015 In that logic then the gap between Mercedes and Ferrari will have doubled from last year, which it hasn't
Amin Posted 7 September 2015 Posted 7 September 2015 Only just caught the BBC highlights of the qualifying and race this evening and it was pretty gutting seeing Kimi go from one his best post-comeback qualifying performances to the worst start of his career in the space of about 10 minutes. It was even more disappointing seeing the championship go up in smoke in the last few laps. Ah well, Lewis deserves it this year. I was hoping Rosberg might be able to slowly turn it around but I think it's safe to say that is incredibly unlikely after yesterday. I'm actually really optimistic about next year. I think Ferrari will be very close to Mercedes and we could see a similar thing to the old Mclaren-Ferrari battles from the previous two decades. If not, then we've always got the rule changes in 2017 to look forward to... Not F1 related but I felt sorry for JPM last weekend, can't believe IndyCar introduced the double points rule for the last race and Scott Dixon won the championship by winning one more race than Montoya throughout the whole season despite equaling his points tally. Worst of all, Dixon was 47 points behind Montoya in the standings prior to the finale. I was really disappointed with that. I was willing him on to get Briscoe at the end but he just couldn't get close enough. Bloody Will Power turning in on him screwed his race right up. What with the death of Justin Wilson a week before, it was a shit end to a great season.
The Horse's Mouth Posted 7 September 2015 Posted 7 September 2015 If Ferrari step up their game and Nico puts this year behind him and puts on a bit more of a competitive edge that he displayed last season it could be alright. Rumours are Redbull are switching to Ferrari engines as well, which could be huge.

If only there were a few more laps then Montoya would be the champion right now. Although he won the 1999 CART title in the same fashion so I guess turnabout is fair play.
purpleronnie Posted 8 September 2015 Posted 8 September 2015 Does Hamilton go out of his way to look like am idiot?, I'll excuse the earings, maybe even the bum fluff beard but there's no excuse for his hair. Three strikes you're out!!!!
Brainy Posted 8 September 2015 Posted 8 September 2015 If thats all he can be criticised for these days then he must be doing well for himsef
iamafox Posted 9 September 2015 Author Posted 9 September 2015 Lewis kept his baseball cap on during Justin Wilson's minute's silence at the Italian GP. What a disrespectful ****.
The Horse's Mouth Posted 9 September 2015 Posted 9 September 2015 Lewis kept his baseball cap on during Justin Wilson's minute's silence at the Italian GP. What a disrespectful ****. mate he was too busy focusing on his music
iamafox Posted 9 September 2015 Author Posted 9 September 2015 mate he was too busy focusing on his music So what? You think that's a good excuse for not realising what was going on around him?
The Horse's Mouth Posted 9 September 2015 Posted 9 September 2015 So what? You think that's a good excuse for not realising what was going on around him? of course it isn't, it's the exact attitude which makes me dislike him so much. His tweets after explaining why were disgraceful as well, but who cares cause #TeamLH won the race right!?!?!
iamafox Posted 9 September 2015 Author Posted 9 September 2015 of course it isn't, it's the exact attitude which makes me dislike him so much. His tweets after explaining why were disgraceful as well, but who cares cause #TeamLH won the race right!?!?! What I also don't like is that he's the most talked about driver, ever since last year the British media have been fawning over his success and they will continue to do so. They treat him like he's the best and most important driver and it really irritates me.
The Blur Posted 9 September 2015 Posted 9 September 2015 I just watched Rush movie, it was very enjoyable. The movie mentioned that Hunt left racing after that, I could have googled it but I wanted a perspective from real F1 fans- how did that happened and who won the championship the year after Hunt's win?
