Hamer 6 - Not much to do again, his kicking still iffy though

De Laet 7 - Positioning at times not great, but defended & attacked well enough

Morgan 7 - Looked solid until the last 10 minutes

Moore 9 - Cracking performance, dominated the air, read the game well, timed his tackles, only thing missing was a goal

Konchesky 5 - Doesn't look comfortable on the ball, and too slow at times

Lawrence 7 - Great effort from the lad, worked hard, some nice touches & turns

James 7 - Had to lead by example, assured performance

Cambiasso N/A - Didn't look up to the pace from the get go, was obviously something wrong

Knockaert 7 - Some good stuff from Knockaert today, thought Konch let him down at times

Nugent 6 - Cracking work rate, but nowhere near as good as Liverpool

Ulloa 6 - Got the goal, but didn't seem up to scratch today, looked very ordinary

Subs

Albrighton 8 - Impressed, good going forward especially, helped De Laet out at times as well

Wood 4 - Utter shit

Vardy 5 - One shot, but that was about it

You're having a laugh with Wood, KingFox. Played tidily, held the ball up well to stop them getting back into it and would have scored but for the save of the season.

I'm really shocked how anyone at the game could vote 4 for Chris Wood. He very nearly scored, but for a world class save, won almost every header, closed down, held the ball up. I thought he had a decent game and am shocked he doesn't get more match time, the positions he takes up stretch defenders much more than our other forwards.

I didn't give Wood a 4 but I didn't rate him an awful lot higher.

Missed an absolute sitter (although it drew one of the best saves I've seen) and his passing was awful.

Made a few headers and held it up better than he usually does though.

Held the ball up well?

Won a few headers, but the ball kept bouncing off him.

He ain't good enough I'm afraid.

For once I agree with KingFox; he was dire.

Looked like he loaded his socks with sand because he barely jumped and challenged for balls in the air. Even with balls to his feet his touch was poor and he offered very little.

Dire is extremely harsh. He certainly could of done better but he was far from dire, did win numerous headers and got into some great positions

In general Moore was probably motm, 9 for him. Albrighton not too far behind

Three stand out performances for me.

Moore and Albrighton were excellent and clearly showed their desire to get into the team on a regularly basis. Albrighton surely has to take Riyad's place next week.

The third "stand out" performance was Konchesky. It is time to put this bloke out to grass. Defensively he is just about ok but when he tries to do anything even slightly more difficult than basic then it all goes horribly wrong. Quite simply we need a new left back. Failing that get RDL in there.

Couldn't agree more.

Ok he won 2 or 3 headers but they weren't directed anywhere, his first touch was very very poor for a professional footballer at any level, he's very slow and has no ability running onto a pass (note his pathetic attempt at controlling a very decent through ball to him from Lawrence). He doesn't get off the ground half the time when attempting to jump, he didn't hold the ball up once from what I recall and he's caught offside far too many times.

Other than that I guess Wood did ok.

Sorry but we need far far better if we are to stay up.

Hamer- 6 (Little to do, kicking was mixed but not helped by some awful backpasses)

De Laet- 6

Morgan- 7 (Strong)

Moore- 7 (Good display on his return)

Konchesky- 5 (Tried to be too clever and it nearly cost us)

Knockaert- 6 (Mixed up the corners which was good, all energy again)

James- 8 (Took responsibility after Cambiasso went off, pinged the ball about well and supported the attacks)

Lawrence- 6.5 (Some poor and nervy touches but potential there, did well in CM)

Cambiasso- N/A (Not enough time to make anything happen)

Nugent- 7 (Ran his socks off, some lovely touches, confidence is growing)

Ulloa- 6 (Scored another goal, apart from that wasn't too influential)

Subs-

Albrighton- 7 (Good display on both sides, got stuck in, helped out at the back and sent in a couple of great crosses)

Wood- 5 (Inconsistent performance, not quite sure he's up to it in the Premier League)

Vardy- 5 (Not much chance to get forward, one shot saved)

Newcastle- 4

Ref- 6

Pearson- Stay

Chris wood 4 were you watching the game? The poor lad won 90% of the ball in the air, had a cracking shot on target, his only downfall is there was no one there to support him

Agree with this. If we insist on kicking the ball at Woody in the air. Then Vardy has to be closer to Woody to pick up on the knock down - otherwise we may as well just give the opposition the ball back.

Just this one short thread shows how people's opinions of a football match, and on its players differ so markedly!

Just come off the phone to mi mate who was at the game and he said Wood played as well as could be expected seeing as he had so little to feed off. He did say that he 'looked very slow' though.

I'm astonished reading people's negative opinions on Wood's performance ..... I thought he gave the manager a problem to not at least play him from the bench. He isn't quick .... that's not his game - pointless slating him for being slow, he's good in other ways - he won 90% of his headers, held the ball up well, and he doesn't run like an idiot across the line because he's already in space - he intelligently stays in space when he's in it rather than run for the sake of it into a defender. Oh and his touch .... Someone was slating his touch!!!! He bought the ball down from cloud height to within 6 inches of his foot, the guy has a very decent touch.

To say he was dire or warranting a 4/10 is absolutely crazy.

He did well to get on the end of that .... looked a nailed on goal and was on target ..... He could do no more for me .... Like you've said - the keeper made one of the best saves you'll ever see.

Mainly sixes. Pearson 7 (and stays), Morgan 7, Moore 8, Albrighton 8, Wood 5 and Vardy 4. Newcastle get a 3, worst side to come here this season. Referee gets a 6.

Everyone is entitled to their opinions.

I thought he looked like a lump of lard when running.

I think my other ratings are about fair mind.

Posted

Each to their own and all that but for me we need wood to hold the ball up which he seems incapable of doing I understand he not a quick mover or can't do much if it's launched at his head but the amount of times the balls played to feet he either has a lousy touch or he doesn't seem to want to keep it always looking for an instant pass it just creates us problems defensively

Posted

Some tough marking from me but I do bear in mind that most players were either tired or rusty:

Hamer 5 - nowt to do except scare us with us kicking...

De Laet 5 - tired badly after a good start, his header on the 80th minute when under no pressure, straight out for a corner, was the stuff of 'mares

Morgan 6 - hat off to Wes who I think was our only outfield player to play every minute of every game over the festive season

Moore 7 - how much better did our defence look with Liam's pace back in it?!?

Konchesky 4 - oh dear..

Knocky 5 - his usual performance, threatening to be good or terrible, but not quite managing either

Cambiasso 6 - hope he's ok..

James 7 - rarely wastes the ball and must find half his team mates infuriating

Lawrence 5 - promising, but a couple of awful moments pushed me towards a 5 not a 6: that 'shot', and the daft driblle that led totheir 'goal'

Nugent 5 - looked tired

Ulloa 6 - looked class but tired

Albrighton 8 - honestly didn't know he could play that well. Newcastle were poor, but if he could replicate this level in league matches we'd have a real asset

Wood 5 - looked like Chris Wood

Vardy 5 - looked knackered

Overall, very promising and with maybe a new face or two coming in the week, I'm looking forward to the Villa game already!

Mostly 6's, De Laet 5 for poor positioning throughout, Cambiasso looked lost until going off, and Vardy whose game nearly lasted 10 seconds, and on the positive side Moore 7 and Albrighton 8 - two really determined performances. Newcastle were abysmal and should be apologising to their fans for how badly they played.

Oh, decent ref's performance.
