Smudge Posted 9 January 2015 Posted 9 January 2015 I wonder why they are called doughnuts, seems weird. Should be doughfrys or something. According to Smithsonian.com Fast-forward to the mid-19th century and Elizabeth Gregory, a New England ship captain's mother who made a wicked deep-fried dough that cleverly used her son's spice cargo of nutmeg and cinnamon, along with lemon rind. Some say she made it so son Hanson and his crew could store a pastry on long voyages, one that might help ward off scurvy and colds. In any case, Mrs. Gregory put hazelnuts or walnuts in the center, where the dough might not cook through, and in a literal-minded way called them doughnuts.
kingcarr21 Posted 9 January 2015 Posted 9 January 2015 The thing is I find with KK doughnuts is no matter how delicious and tempting the other flavours are, they just aren't as satisfyingly tasty as the 'Original Glazed'. Totally agree The original donut is always a winner.

Merging Cultures Posted 9 January 2015 Posted 9 January 2015 There used to be a little shop near the market that would fry fresh donuts. I used to love going there with my Dad. I think the little place is still there, it's in the middle of the pavement. Not sure if they still do donuts though.
FrankieADZ Posted 9 January 2015 Posted 9 January 2015 i can taste the dibatus now... although i prefer them dinky doughnuts....from that van at Fosse Park

Julian Joachim Jr Shabadoo Posted 10 January 2015 Posted 10 January 2015 I don't know why but that almond one is pissing me off, and I like almonds
MooseBreath Posted 10 January 2015 Posted 10 January 2015 I smashed nine out of a 12-box in about half an hour some time in 2012. Felt a bit sick to say the least and haven't been able to look at them without feeling a bit queasy since. I remember them being quite flavourless and not particularly pleasant but very easy to eat.
Phube Posted 10 January 2015 Author Posted 10 January 2015 The only nicer doughnuts came from The Oven Door...
