bovril Posted 10 January 2015 Posted 10 January 2015 We still have a lot to do and there is no guarantee that Kramaric will instantly improve the team. Nugent's finishing is poor but he does so much work for the team and we seem to play better with him in the XI. Our spirit and belief is obviously sky high though.
DANGEROUS TIGER Posted 10 January 2015 Author Posted 10 January 2015 Nice negative post DT after a great win. Well done lad It's not all that negative, as I am asking the question, along with my view. Four weeks ago, I would have said we were dead and buried, and not asked the question today. There is more to be positive about at this point, but the rest is down to us, and the clubs just above us.
Renart Posted 10 January 2015 Posted 10 January 2015 played Man City at home ? Yep, sorry, it is away.
gregsy Posted 10 January 2015 Posted 10 January 2015 Today was prob one of Pearson's easier 18 to pick, and the starting line up grabbed the shirt and took their chance!!in the coming wks ,to have mahrez, schllup, cambiasso, plus (fingers crossed) kamaric, and any other possible signings,Nigel's going to have a "very nice selection headache!!
Raj Posted 10 January 2015 Posted 10 January 2015 It's not all that negative, as I am asking the question, along with my view. Four weeks ago, I would have said we were dead and buried, and not asked the question today. There is more to be positive about at this point, but the rest is down to us, and the clubs just above us.we were dead at xmas.We now have a chance. Your right in your op that we SHOULD have signed more quality in summer. But we have what we have and with that confidence now and shit of mental strength we can for it. Look at how crap villa are-we defo have a chance but its still gonna be nip n tuck....
MHC Posted 10 January 2015 Posted 10 January 2015 I can understand DT's concerns! In the Stoke pre-match thread I made a point about our next run of games which I will repeat here: We need to pick up points where we can and now (hopefully this will continue against Stoke). After this we have a tough run coming up: Man U (A) Palace (H) Arsenal (A) Everton (A) Chelsea (H) Man City (H) I cannot see us winning any of those, except Palace! Our tails are up and wagging but we could find ourselves adrift once again after that run of fixtures (but this time by losing games that we are expected to lose). However, if we can stay within reach after these games (by beating Stoke and beating Palace and maybe getting a point-or-two elsewhere) then I think we have a really good chance as our run in from Hull (H) onward, is really not bad at all! I expect 6 points from those fixtures at the very least.
katieakita Posted 10 January 2015 Posted 10 January 2015 Confidence is such a big thing we have it and new players coming in has got to help and despite our nightmare spell the players still stuck together and NP has kept the dressing room, lets just keep getting points and the rest can take care of themselves.
LCCFox96 Posted 10 January 2015 Posted 10 January 2015 From 6 points adrift to 2 points adrift in 3 games. That includes an injustice at Anfield as well. If that doesn't inspire some form of confidence then I don't know what will! Keep fighting and keep believing. Thats what NP and the players are doing and its got them a great 3 points today. Keep the faith.
ronnup Posted 10 January 2015 Posted 10 January 2015 Of all the pointless threads, this is my favourite.
Jace Posted 10 January 2015 Posted 10 January 2015 2 points off from safety earlier, yeah its too late we got no chance.
Deucalion Posted 10 January 2015 Posted 10 January 2015 For me, there will always be a feeling that our summer of poor recruitment probably cost us a decent first season back in the PL. But, as many others have said, we are only 2 points from safety. We have new players to come into the fold and from this point, safety is most definitely possible. We also did pretty well last time we played a lot of those teams around the same time. Our expectations are lower now, the bad run has made staying up seem like an achievement. Let's get behind the team and try to make that happen. And fingers crossed, we should have a half decent team to begin 2015-16 with !!
Bagworthblue Posted 10 January 2015 Posted 10 January 2015 touch and go. I think we are good enough to stay up. We need 6 wins from the remaining 17 games - maybe 7. Great if we can keep this little run going and stay in touch as the last few games of the season look very winnable if we can get through the tough patch ahead in touch and remain confident.
Bagworthblue Posted 10 January 2015 Posted 10 January 2015 Just for interest, below is how many wins have been needed to stay up in past years. Ok so you need a reasonable number of draws too but it is fairly consistent in saying you only need to win 10 to stay up 10 you stay up. Not many teams have been relegated with 10 wins. In these simplistic terms, can we win 6 of the remaining fixtures is the question. 2013 - 9 wins 2012 - 10 wins 2011 - 11 wins 2010 - 8 wins 2009 - 8 wins 2008 - 8 wins 2007 - 10 wins 2006 - 10 wins 2005 - 6 wins 2004 - 8 wins 2003 - 10 wins
Fatbloke Posted 10 January 2015 Posted 10 January 2015 Absolutely not !!! if Kram the man can put away even a few of the brilliant chances we are currently creating not only will we survive we could be looking at mid table mediocrity :-)
s11nny Posted 10 January 2015 Posted 10 January 2015 Looking at the teams fighting at the bottom half of the table this season and looking at how the table finished in previous 5 seasons. I would say we need atleast 40 points to survive. So 7 wins and a couple draws out of 17 games. Gonna be very tough but we can do it!!
MooseBreath Posted 10 January 2015 Posted 10 January 2015 18th is on track for 34 points so far so if that continues we need 18 more points. Six wins, five wins three draws, four wins six draws. All achievable. The most frustrating thing for me is that had we not messed around with diamonds and other nonsense formations we'd probably be at least six or seven points better off and looking for a top half finish.
Stevosevic Posted 10 January 2015 Posted 10 January 2015 Not too late, but don't see us finishing above 3 teams - love to be wrong come May.
dannythefox Posted 10 January 2015 Posted 10 January 2015 We're doing ok it's not to late hopefully this striker will be the difference. Sunderland were on 20 points when we were on 10 now there only 3 clear of us, we need to beat Stoke and palace forget about Utd if we get anything it's a bouns.
tripe Posted 10 January 2015 Posted 10 January 2015 Short term plan. Beat Stoke, beat Palace, take a couple of points off the bigger clubs. Stay within the reach of the 17th place. The last 10 games are your chance. 6 home, 4 away. Burnley, Sunderland and WBA away and Hull and QPR home the last matchday are a must win. Take this and you're clear. These matches are worth double points. Of course, you can't win them all (or can you?) but it's important not to lose. You've got Newcastle and S'hampton at home as well. Both without relegation worries. Could get a result a bit easier.Hull, QPR, Burnley, WBA are the teams that I expect will be bellow you at the end.
st albans fox Posted 10 January 2015 Posted 10 January 2015 Add some quality in the window (in addition to AK) and we should be in a better position than at least three teams around us. However, if we fail to add at least two (and possibly three) new faces (with PL quality) then I doubt we will manage to sustain this run for long enough. sides like villa will soon realise they need to pull their fingers out. As long as the manager and board don't begin to think that the current squad is up to it then we have a decent chance of escaping the drop. we need to keep up the momentum in the market next week!
Floridafox Posted 10 January 2015 Posted 10 January 2015 We're currently 11th in the form table (based on last 6 games) and due to our last 3 results. http://www.premierleague.com/en-gb/matchday/form-guide.html Teams on the slide - Newcastle, Aston Villa and Sunderland (can't believe Everton will continue to struggle) Right now, know idea who the bottom 3 will be come May (Hull, Sunderland, QPR...) There'll be plenty of twists and turns between now and then. Thank God we're back in the mix
