adam95581 Posted 17 January 2015 Posted 17 January 2015 Reading about how Derby look like making the signing of Raul Albentosa got me thinking; if (in January) you were being touted by a club sitting bottom of the Premiership and a club sitting top of the Championship, who would you join? Would you prefer a guaranteed 5 months of Premiership football with the prospect of a season in the Championship or would you opt for 5 months in the Championship in the hope that you get a full season in the Prem?
StanSP Posted 17 January 2015 Posted 17 January 2015 Premier League. If you look at our position now, we're not exactly miles away from getting out of the relegation zone.
DB11 Posted 17 January 2015 Posted 17 January 2015 It'd depend on what each team told me my role would be. Starter or bench warmer.
Nalis Posted 17 January 2015 Posted 17 January 2015 I would have said Premier League but this time last year how many people kept saying 'Why would XXX sign for (struggling PL team) over us just to be relegated in 5 months time?'
foxes_rule1978 Posted 17 January 2015 Posted 17 January 2015 It depends on situation and whether the team bottom truly does have a chance... giving only 5 pts separates us from 12th I would say this year, a team in good shape now and only 3 pts from survival would be the better option. Especially when that side has just splashed 10 million on a well sort after player. So we are 3 points from getting out of relegation zone and staying in PL, Derby or bournmouth have still away to go and are far from clear at the top
Mark 'expert' Lawrenson Posted 17 January 2015 Posted 17 January 2015 The Liam Moore possible transfer to Fulham this time last year springs to mind, I for one thought it would of been a ridiculous move, who the hell are they? bottom of the Prem, heading for relegation trying to sign one of the Championships league leaders players.
broughtonblue Posted 17 January 2015 Posted 17 January 2015 It's all about the money, money, money, Unless one of teams were the team you supported as a kid
MHC Posted 17 January 2015 Posted 17 January 2015 Could you have seen Kramaric going to Derby instead had they been interested? I don't think so.
iancognito Posted 17 January 2015 Posted 17 January 2015 Premier every time. Even if we went down Kramaric will get enough exposure in the next 5 months to show a few sides what he's capable of and maybe take a punt on him in the summer if the worst happened. I think Nigel summed it up when he said that they've tracked Kramaric for two years but only now are we in a position to buy him. Which means status-wise and financially he wouldn't have touched us a division lower. As good as it is winning more games at that level, I saw Ipswich on the telly the other night and was reminded just why it's called the big drop. Prem's the place to be.
Fox92 Posted 17 January 2015 Posted 17 January 2015 Depends on the situation. Any Sport is all about winning (you don't play anything in life to lose) so if X were bottom of the Premier League with no hope of survival I'd join the Championship club but if they have a good chance of survival - like ourselves - I may join the PL club.
Captain... Posted 17 January 2015 Posted 17 January 2015 Depends on so many things, but if we are looking objectively of us vs Derby as the best choice for a player it would be us, Derby aren't top and have absolutely no guarantee of going up anyone who knows anything about the championship knows anything can happen... ...but for a player like Albentosa having 6 months to adjust in a successful team in the Championship would pave the way for a big money move next season should Derby not get promoted. Getting another nice fat signing on fee in the process. I guess it depends on how confident you are as a player if you think you can walk into a struggling team in a foreign league and make an instant impact then you choose us. If you have doubts about your ability you choose Derby.
davieG Posted 17 January 2015 Posted 17 January 2015 Realistically it would also depend on the details of the contract as much as we might call certain players money grabbing xxxx you will have certain commitments to meet and standard of living to maintain both during and after you stop playing. Location, do you want move your family? Signing on fee / bonuses Length of contract. Wages and any caveats Quality of training and medical support That's before you even consider the actual footballing side. much like any other job really.
kyleolly Posted 17 January 2015 Posted 17 January 2015 Any player worth their salt would go to the premier league side and help them stay up
