Another notable Foxes star who could also be set for a move away from Leicester in Algerian winger Riyad Mahrez.

Recruited from Le Havre back in January 2014 the 24-year-old has adapted to the demands of the Premier League with relative ease and, along with Cambiasso, has been one of the most consistent performers for the Midlands club in a topsy-turvy campaign.

An excellent passer of the ball who enjoys taking on opposition defenders and shooting from distance, the winger has scored four goals and provided a further three assists for the Foxes from 28 league appearances this term.

Part of the Algeria team that defied the odds to reach the last-16 of the World Cup in Brazil last summer, Mahrez has already attracted admiring glances from on the continent.

Italian giants Roma are thought to be weighing up a summer move while La Liga outfit Villarreal have become the latest big name to be linked with a bid.

Riyad Mahrez after scoring against Saints

Riyad Mahrez has proven he has the ability and the application to become a better player, a delightedLeicester City manager Nigel Pearson has said.

The Algeria international produced a match-winning double against Southampton on Saturday to give City a sixth win in seven games and a three-point cushion above the relegation zone.

The 24-year-old winger was utilised as an attacking midfielder in behind the twin strike force of Leonardo Ulloa and Jamie Vardy, and Pearson said it was another example of his adaptability.

Pearson also said Mahrez had also come to terms with the defensive responsibilities required of him.

"Riyad has had a very big learning curve in the past 18 months when you consider he joined from a small French club, coming into English football and a big change of culture," said Pearson after Saturday's 2-0 victory at the King Power Stadium.

"The Championship is not an easy division to settle in, in many ways, especially with the type of player he is. But he was a member of a Championship-winning side last year and went to the World Cup, played in the Africa Cup of Nations and played in the Premier League. That is a massive shift.

"It has been full-on. He hasn't had any breaks.

"When you consider all those scenarios, I think he has done very well. He is still a young player.

"He probably gets a bit tired of myself and his team-mates reminding him what he has to do when we haven't got the ball, but that is part of it.

"For us to be an effective side, we have to have all our players understand how the team functions.

"To be fair to him, he has had a very good season on the back of that 18 months."

Mahrez dedicated his double to his mother, who was watching him play for Leicester for the first time at the King Power Stadium.

"I'm very pleased to score, but the most important thing is the team," said Mahrez.

"At the moment, we're at an important stage for the club because we have to stay up.

"I also wanted to score for my mum, as it was the first match she has seen in Leicester, so that was a great feeling."

We were saying how poor he had been since the acn in the boozer before the game, Sod's law! I'll defo be slating him before the Sunderland game (cue 30 yrd screamer). But imho I'm we can get 4/5/6 million I'd be very tempted! But then again you pay that for a very average championship player! Nah fook it keep the lad!

Glad you sorted that argument out by yourself

his new positionning behind the strikers the last 2 games made a big diffrence even if i think that it should be done before, but i have to admit that his long experience as a winger helped him to learn the defensive task.

he looks more responsible and you can see his progression with algerian national squad.

thanks to LCFC for that.

i think he will stay one more year with the foxes

Another winner against Sunderland on Saturday and the lad will be on a lot of clubs radar this summer. £20 million and they can have him. Hopefully he stays and continues to improve though. Couldn't face losing Knockaert and Mahrez in one summer.

Anybody else's heart melt when he does that cheeky smile?....

No.....?

Just me....?

Definitely not just you. Nothing makes me melt more than Mahrez or Cambiasso being happy. They could end wars by just smiling.

5 million for Mahrez? I wouldnt sell him for double that. Crap like Will Hughes rated at 10 million.Adam Llanna(stupid name) 27 million

I think he is a player suited to an open game, and against opposition that give him space to play. Sunderland might close him down more but their defense is slow his quick feet will be an asset. I hope he stays, he's been inconsistent, but he's great when he's on form and offers us something different, and i don't want us to be too one dimensional just relying on outright pace on the break.

oh, you know you won't catch him, when he's on the ball

he shows moments of magic when he goes through on goal

cos for 24 years he's been called riyahd mahrez

mahrez? Who the F is MAHREZ!

I'm shit at writing 'lyrics' but I think the tune would be a good idea for his song!
