Even considering all our strikers, I'll be disappointed if we miss out on Parker.

Interesting because to me he appears nothing than a Plan C Sven has his up sleeve if other targets fall through.

Am i right to assume he's probably signing then?

You all now know as much as me.

Either that or he wants to know why we took him on trial then had a bid agreed when we had no intention of signing him!

I really hope we sign him. Sounds like a real worker and if he would 'improve our bench' then presumably that means Sven considers him to be better than Waghorn. He's an exciting player and with the guidance of someone like Sven who knows how much his game could improve. He would blatently be a real fans' favourite too.

Maybe there are work permit issues? Haven't exactly followed his involvement with the RSA national team :dunno:

Sorry peeps already decided I want sylvan ebanks blake instead of Parker, was gonna give Sven a ring but would probably be interupting his

fling with the owner of the clubs daughters...

Keep this hush hush though please, need my contacts!

If you were to wager, Bert, would you bet on Uchechi AND Parker signing?

We might not go up, we'll certainly look menacing though.

How many have we got, and anyway would we be keeping Waghorn if Sven brought Parker on board?

We have Vassell, Waghorn and possibly Parker. So does Sven rate Parker higher than Waghorn? If so, Waghorn may be loaned out or sold.

Unless that film of Parker somehow gives an entirely false impression then I wouldn't see Waghorn as being the same threat as Parker. Waghorn is so like Matty Fryatt in some ways in that he's got certain strengths but seems seriously limited as a striker.

He's dreadfully one footed, doesn't pose much threat in the air and never looks a natural passer nor is he noted as one to spot and pick out the runners, though it has happened.

He's a gasp and blast striker - all effort and action but he's someone who'll have more spectacular shots going high and wide than thoughtful just-what's-necessary finishes. Yes, he's young enough to improve but so was Fryatt once.

Parker looks an altogther natural footballer and finisher but, for all that, I imagine the reality is that Parker's film flatters and that Waghorn would flourish again with more games .

Sven-Goran Eriksson has said he will make a final decision over whether he will sign South Africa international striker Bernard Parker next week.

City have agreed a fee with Parker's Dutch club FC Twente but Eriksson has stalled on completing the deal for the 24-year-old as he waits to see the outcome of other inquiries.

This week he finally completed the loan signing of Nigerian international striker Yakubu on loan from Everton, with a view to a permanent transfer, and said he would finally tell Parker if he wishes to proceed.

However, fellow trialist Danny Uchechi has been invited to train with the club until the end of the season.

The 21-year-old Nigerian has spent spells with Charlton Athletic and West Ham United, and Eriksson admits he is a good prospect, but is not ready for City's first team at present. "We need to make a decision about Parker this week if we are going to do that one, or he will go to another club," said Eriksson.

"Danny, he might go on training with us for the rest of the season and then at the end of the season we will see if he is good enough.

"I don't think he is ready for us, but he is a talent so we could keep him and see what happens with him."

The two came to Eriksson's attention after being recommended to the club, and he says the barrage of phone calls from agents has not ceased.

Eriksson said he is looking to make more signings, but he was looking only for players who could make an immediate contribution.

"We are working on it and we will probably work on it until January 31," he said. "If we take in others, they must be better than what we have."

Meanwhile, Eriksson is set to welcome long-term injury absentee Aleksandar Tunchev back to training with the first-team squad this week, two years after he first tore his cruciate knee ligament at Crystal Palace in an FA Cup game.

The Bulgarian international has made attempted comebacks before, only to suffer further injury, but he is set to make a significant step forward when he trains with his team-mates after months of rehabilitation work with the club physios.

"He will start training with us on Monday," said Eriksson. "It might not be full training, but I hope so. It will still take a long time before he can play again, but it will be good for him."

City's FA Youth Cup fixture against Blackburn Rovers has been rearranged for Monday, January 31, kick off 7pm.

The tie was scheduled to take place at the Walkers Stadium on Tuesday but was postponed because of the first team's FA Cup replay at Manchester City.
