There's clearly a pretty large section of the police fraternity in a lot of places in the US that are simply power-mad and rotten to the core. Of course there's a lot of decent cops too, so it's a shame their name gets blackened when stuff like this happens.

Merging Cultures Posted 8 April 2015 Posted 8 April 2015 I hope must because we don't see the initial struggle, and i us not clear if the cop drops his taser behind him or if Scott knocks it out of his hand. (It's clear later on the cop goes back, picks it up and then drops it next to the body). It's really weird to see the cop shoot him 8 times in the back, calmly walk over and order him several times to put his hands behind his back, then just leave the guy handcuffed, faced down and dead. It's too cold and heartless.

Youve got to question what the police are being taught. enormous respect to the family of the murdeered man... Speaking at a press conference early today, the victim's brother Anthony Scott said: "We can't get my brother back and my family is in deep mourning for that. "But, through the process, justice has been served. I don't think that all police officers are bad cops, but there are some bad ones out there. "I don't want to see anyone get shot down the way my brother got shot down."
Crinklyfox Posted 8 April 2015 Posted 8 April 2015 This type of incident is bad for law enforcement. In the USA the bad guys have guns a lot of the time, police have to be able to use their weapons. If legislation did not permit a policemen to use his gun against a fleeing suspect then that would seriously impair their ability to arrest as suspects would know that there would be no consequences to trying to evade capture. So shooting someone in the back several times is not only murder, it is criminally stupid and apart from damaging the reputation of the law enforcement bodies it will make it harder for them to do their work.

I don't think it will make it harder for law enforcement. They are already told not to shoot people in the back. They just need to follow their protocols. They could also make their jobs easier by working on conflict resolution skills, deescalating situations, and building relationships with communities.

DB11 Posted 8 April 2015 Posted 8 April 2015 I cannot believe that there is no aftercare or consideration for the guy shot. When the Lee Rigby killers were shot by police you saw that the British cops immediately went over and administered first aid, undoubtedly saving their lives.

DB11 Posted 8 April 2015 Posted 8 April 2015 What was he meant to have even done? Following a traffic stop he ran from the cop, the cop caught him in the park. The guy then grabbed the cop's taser ("ALLEGEDLY") so the cop shot him.

Obviously knew he'd dropped a bollock. Apparently after the shooting the cop picked up the taser, after it had been dropped, from the position where he was shooting from, and then tossed it next to the handcuffed Scott.

I'm not sure that we do. Every time an incident like this happens it's assumed that race played a part, but how do we know? No-one's provided any evidence to back that claim up yet.
