What we need if we stay up....

We're not safe yet of course. This is no presumptuous thread and we still have a lot of hard work to do.

However....

If we stay up, what do we need next season to ensure progress? We've been unlucky (or profligate depending on your view) in front of goal at times, and have been shaky at the back, but is it simple as getting another centre-half and another striker, or do we need something entirely different?

Right back, left back, central midfielder, winger and a new captain.

(and make Huth's deal a permanent one).

gotta love foxes talk, when we lose, the world is ending, and when we win, we talk about the future WAY too early :)

Down or survive, we desperately need a new left back. Beyond that I think the problems lay more in the coaching than the players; particularly the shooting. I wouldn't say no to a Lennon style all action mid to compliment Cambiasso or a experienced CB like Huth though.

I agree with that, I'd also put the man himself through his coaching badges.

Cambiasso and Huth for starters. We then need to add more quality in different positions. We need to create more and have more overall possession and replace Wes i'm afraid. Good............... but not good enough

Strange that no one is mentioning a new manager anymore.

I love this...NP has no choice but to abandon his over confidence, arrogance, stubbornness an at times nonchalance...and actually manage the team! And since Hull at home, he's not done a bad job at it. I'd much rather go down on the back of decisive albeit risky interventions than none at all. Reverting to three at the back against West Ham and the introduction of a third CB today to strengthen the flanks going forward were positive changes as opposed to the bewildering inaction, brainless selections and formations or pointless substitutions that have found us unjustly languishing at the bottom of the table all season.

Now start Kram for Ulloa, Was for Wes, armband to Cambiasso.

Agree, but a replacement for Morgan a biggy, I still think huth and was is still the right partnership, if playing a four, and still think they would be good next season, so a new defender for back up, Morgan sold to a championship side.

Real quality throughout the spine of the team.

A class centre back

A midfield playmaker

Kramaric and another quality striker.

Plus....two very good full backs. I'm afraid RDL/Simpson and Konch aren't good enough at this level IMO. Schlupp is only good enough when played as a wing back.

To be honest, we need some proper changes to really kick on.

Whatever division we're in we need to start from scratch with the defence - sign Huth permanently (which won't happen) and bring in a combative midfielder who can break up the play.

And get rid of Nugent whose constant chance missing, I still see as the reason we aren't seeing out games. Alongside our defensive frailties and general naivety that is.
