Pearson Interview - The Guardian

Im not sure how anyone could have ever disliked him

This.

Although often the people who dislike him are actually the ones who seem to enjoy it when we are doing poorly, maybe he just wins too many games for some people?

Great interview as usual when it's one of the non-red tops doing it, he seems far more willing to open up to journalists who don't want to sensationalise everything, something Ian Stringer and Jason Bourne could have learnt from a long time ago.

I don't agree. Most of my non-LCFC friends (I have a fair few living in London) really do like him for being straight talking and this slight 'quirkiness' they see in him. I think that they were more pro-actively shouting for him not to be sacked during our poor run than most on here. I think that it is almost the opposite of what you have said: some Leicester fans get a little embarrassed by him, like that slightly strange auntie, as they are worried by what other clubs might think of us, but, actually, most other fans really do quite like him.

Fair enough, most of the people I have spoken with thought differently but then again I live overseas. It would be a boring forum if everyone had the same opinion on everything.

Probably because these people just look at his appearance in the media. I've always liked him too, what a hero.

I think a lot of it depends on success. Clough and Mourinho got away with their provocative, or prickly edges because of their success and the respect it earned them. Most of the footballing world has had little or no cause to pay attention to Pearson until this year, and if you're stuck to the bottom and telling people to 'f*** off' it's inevitably going to be taken differently to doing the same thing at the top of the table, as unfair and wrong as that may be.

That said, keeping us up would constitute success, especially when you consider where we were a few weeks ago. And the public love to be won over by complex and difficult personalities, be it Clough or Johnny Rotten.

I remember reading a report on this 'syndrome' once and it concluded that when we dislike a media figure, a part of us wants to be convinced to like them. I can see how that might apply to an outside view of Nigel Pearson, though it will take a lot to persuade me that it can ever apply to, for instance, Ian Stringer.

Same mate, I think people didn't like him cos they didn't get him. People fear his methods cos they don't understand his methods.

A good journalist will always get an interesting and insightful response off Pearson. Shame there aren't more of them around and then he might not be slated so frequently in the likes of the Sun and the Daily Fail.

That article is an excellent read off the back of well thought out and coherent interview - take note Ian Stringer!

Got to admit, quality journalism from the get go with our Nige from the Guardian....they actually seem to have the intelligence to of studied Pearson a bit and know how to get the best out of him... They've played him well.

And THAT my friends is how a journalist should operate.

Stringer, take note.

It's a great article, and i'm not in anyway attempting to defend Stringer, but it must be easier interviewing him at the training ground, on a sunny day, after 3 back-to-back wins and not in the tunnel after a match. I love NP, hope he's here for a very long and successful period.

Great interview!

NP has certainly divided opinion this season - but what must be remembered he is his own man, and can in his own words 'look after himself'- and that for me makes believe that he is one of the greats. Of course for me Premiership survival would help enormously.......

I've seen and heard post match interviews from loads of other sources that are illuminating in a way Stringer never can. TalkSport, 5Live, Sky Sports

It's just Stringer and personal agenda & unprofessionalism getting in the way of doing the job WE pay him to do. And the lack of accountability from RL to the fans & importantly licence fee payers in not resolving it
