Leicester to bid £8m for Mainz forward Shinji Okazaki

Don't see why we need to shell out 10m on someone who has never played PL football and is nearing the end of his career.

Pish Posh. Who needs sell on value. Were minted

I don't care how minted we are, I'd still rather have players who are likely to increase in value, rather than decrease. It's just a good business model. I'm sure we'll return to that once / IF we become more established.

Really like his finishing. All one or two touch finishes with little time to think. Shows he can cut it in a league where you don't get much time on the ball.

At 29, he's probably got 3-4 years in him at his peak and even if he goes for free after that time if he does the business in the meantime, who really cares?

He's only just turned 29... hardly nearing the end of his career.  You can get 3/4 good years out of him yet.

This never played premier league nonsense is invading too many threads. Who cares? He's been playing at the top level.

Cambiasso, Vardy, wasyl, mahrez, Ulloa almost all of our top perforners last season had never played premier league

Granted he's no Cambiasso, but my point was i'd rather spend that kind of money on someone who has potential to improve or someone who we could get 7/8 years out of. What if he fails? He'll be 30 years old next year and we'll have a bloody hard time shifting him.

But I suppose quick success is what everyone craves nowadays.

Ha ha ha ha ha . You are joking, right?

10M Euros is about £7.4M, just to get a little more precision into the 'banter'.

The guy has played lots of International football, Bundesliga, and he is 5 years younger than Cambiasso. You are a joke!

Who wants to shift him. Let's get him here first.

It's not nonsense, it's called limitation of risk and has also been talked about by our very own scouts. It's not just about players not having played here, it's also about players not having lived here. Getting used to a different place, a different way of life etc. Okazaki himself has talked about how difficult he found it to adapt when he first moved to Germany. We've had our own player in Kramaric last season saying how hard it was to move over and be away from family etc in a new place.  Only one of the players you mentioned had never played / lived in this country before and that was Cambiasso.

It's a legitimate concern and not nonsense. It doesn't mean who can't come here and be a success, but you can't rubbish the concern.

I understand those concerns I've touched on them myself... but I'm not sure we're buying him with the thinking he'll fail.

On the other hand if he's successful he'll be less likely to be lured away by another bigger PL team than a  successful 22 year old.

Still a little bit of a panicky viewpoint. Kram was young when he came and had never played outside his country of birth and came to a club where no-one else spoke his language. Okazaki has been away from his place of birth for years, is more mature, is a very experienced high level player and is coming to a club where Huth, Schlupp, and Fuchs all speak German, as well.

Not a like for like comparison really.

I'm not saying it's just because he's Asian.... but come on. Owners say they want asian players and we sign an asian player?! What I'm saying is it has clearly been suggested we sign an asian player... and Pearson has gone out and found one that will add something to the team.

Or Nigel Pearson says privately 'I'm desperate to sign Shinji Okazaki', the owners then say publicly 'We want to sign an Asian player' and finally we sign Shinji Okazaki.

The owners saying they want us to sign an Asian player could quite conceivably have happened after and potentially in response to Pearson targeting Okazaki.

How much income would he be likely to generate in Asia?

Its got to be quite a lot, he's Japan's 3rd all time highest scorer.

Technically he never said £10m so he could quite easily have been referring to Euros

It was a lil sarcasm from my part. Obviously we want to try and eventually make money on our purchases

And for 3/4 of the season this showed that they had never played in the Premierleague before, ( excluding Cambiasso ). These players though had the benefit of playing in the English league however for at least a season before to prepare them.

Look at Kramaric for example, do we really want x2 strikers (15/18 millions worth) that are still adapting to the english league when we are needing instant goals?

Did I say it was a like for like comparison? I'm explaining the reasoning behind that concern that people have. Maybe he'll settle find maybe he won't, maybe his experience of moving to Germany from Japan will help... maybe it won't. It's all guess work, but the concern is a fair one to have.

It's one of several things that make me worry about the transfer. But there are several things that are also very positive about the transfer like you pointed out. As I said, Pearson's team know what they are doing and I back their judgement over my own concerns.

scored a good amount of goals in a very good league also scored bags of international goals. 7 million? Absolute steal. We are in the premier league now that amount of money is what clubs pay for average players.
