Brilliant signing if confirmed.

Two footed (can head the ball too despite being a short fella), runs all day, great touch, fantastic athlete.

Couldn't care less that he's 29 he'll score 14+ goals next season.

Even though I agree other than that last sentence you've just copied everything the bloke says off the YouTube video lol

Obviously no one noticed Mainz recently sign his replacement then  Yoshinori Muto , which may of signified a Shinzi exit I thought

Obviously still wanting to appeal to their japanese fanbase...

Really hope he signs. Takeshi's castle is one of my favorite gameshows and im pretty sure i saw him on one of the episodes....

Definitely a good player, i will be glad if he signs. However, even if we play with two forwards, this means that Kramaric will quite obviously be the fourth choice. A bit sad as i think he wont have much tome to prove what he is able to.

But meh, no place for pity, the strongest will play

I wonder how long the average signing stays at the club these days?

I'm not talking about academy products who make the first team, as they seem to have a longer than average shelf life.

Without any kind of research what so ever, I reckon if he stays for the average length of time for a signing, he still won't be that old when he moves on.

I would guess 3 years btw.

I think we did and it was mentioned on this website.

Well I strongly disagree. I think it's quite conceivable that Nigel Pearson would want one of the best strikers in the Bundesliga, a division I believe Rob Mackenzie said our scouts specifically target last summer, for less than £10m without any prompting from our owners.

That is better put but than your original scenario so maybe I just misunderstood. From day 1 the owners have wanted to recruit eastern players and this has not changed. I am pleased however that they are leaving it at the discretion of the management team and not just insisting on us buying anyone. Hence I am not suggesting he is being targeted purely because of his ethnicity but suggesting this is an extra tick in the original Rob Mackenzie Model that puts him ahead of a similar player in his position  - i.e players nearing contract end, ... tick  .....under £10m..... tick = 2 ticks but his ethnicity is a big extra tick that sends us towards him rather than Joey Bloggs that meets the first 2 criteria only.

The German Bundeliga is not one that Mackenzie was heavily monitoring is my recollection as I recall he was targeting good players in less established leagues such as L1 in France, and eastern european leagues though I may be wrong. However, it is also conceivable that a separate selection process exists to target eastern players as a separate search globally and that he was identified via this means.

Either way it looks like this is a signing that ticks both the footballing and commercial boxes and would imagine this is why we have pursued him with even greater vigour than if he were Joey Bloggs

Ha ha ha ha ha . You are joking, right?

10M Euros is about £7.4M, just to get a little more precision into the 'banter'.

The guy has played lots of International football, Bundesliga, and he is 5 years younger than Cambiasso. You are a joke!

Who wants to shift him. Let's get him here first.

Sorry? lol

I can't remember stating that we were going to spend £10m.  I also said "He's no Cambiasso" and I would expect every 10m euro striker to have played lots of international football.

Don't call me a joke when you can't even ****ing read.

He will have plenty of opportunities, Strikers are generally substituted more than most positions. - if we play 3-5-2, you need 4 strikers for one game potentially and 4 strikers you would happily have in your starting X1. To be successful we need a bench that would be as strong as those starting and a squad capable of making the bench. Additionally it looks like Shinji may be suited to the role in the hole, and there is always potential for Vardy to move out wide and stay on the pitch when changing formation in a game. All of this and I haven't mentioned injury or suspension yet so I am sure Kram will have plenty of opportunity next season. Don't forget that we shelled out £9m for him so there will be some pressure on Pearson to prove he was a sound investment and to maintain his market value.

The argument that he's too old and the fee too much cos we'll never get the fee back or anything decent on the sale is just pointless. A striker at his age regardless of the fee, you'll never get a decent return if sold on, and I'd hope that if we were going to spend that much on him that we'd at least get 3/4 years out of him. Despite the potential fee, we will get a decent return on the Eastern interest in the club. Something the owners want to further establish and grow. Having an Asian player on the books is inevitable. This one's not bad, and wouldn't exactly be simply for 'show'.

Yeah, good point. How about that Croatian striker who scored 21 goals in 18 matches last season, I think we could probably get him in. Only 24 too

He's no where near the end of his career - you're confusing him with Cambiasso who everyone wants to keep on. 29 - 32 can be the best years of a players career. And why you only want players who have prem experience beats me. Surely they'd be either old, or rejects from lower level prem teams.

Why would I be confusing the two?

Okazaki is 29, and has had two half decent seasons in a less competitive division. This signing is purely to satisfy this "asian market".

I didn't say only want players with Premier League experience. But it does help when you're spunking 8m quid on an someone who has more than likely peaked.

why are you making such awful assumptions?

I'm being realistic.

We'd laugh at anyone else if they did the same.

It's almost certain they've watched this player for over a year. Pearson is notoriously exhaustive in his research of players, including the sports science and statistically aspect. You really think his reasoning is this simplistic?

This sort of comparison is meaningless.

So you can't compare the price value and calibre of players?

Surely this is vital when lining up potential signings at clubs, or am I wrong?

If the signing was purely to satisfy the Asian market then why would they go all out for the same player for 3 windows in a row and spend upwards of 7m on him? why not just go for someone from the Japanese league on the cheap? you're doing a real disservice to our transfer team there
