Leicester to bid £8m for Mainz forward Shinji Okazaki

I'm being realistic.

We'd laugh at anyone else if they did the same.

I certainly wouldn't laugh at a fellow Premier League club spending £7-9m (whatever it is) on a striker who has averaged close to a goal every 2-3 games in the Bundesliga for the past two seasons, seems to have a great work rate and attitude and a brilliant record for Japan. I don't think you'll find too many threads on opposition forums mocking us for doing so to be honest. It's ridiculous to suggest that we are purely signing him for the Asian market, not many people would raise an eyebrow if we spent this much on someone with his record who happened to be German.

why are you making such awful assumptions?

It's hardly an "awful" assumption. Owner says he wants to sign Asian players, oh look we sign an Asian player.

I'm sure Pearson wouldn't sign one if he didn't think he could add something, but it's a bit naive to not think it might have come into their thinking, or swayed the decision from one player to another etc, or had some sort of influence.

Japanese football seems more lightweight compared to the PL; he would struggle physically, I'd imagine, here.

Seems slow as well.

It will definitely do us no harm in terms of publicity over there, but saying we're signing him purely to satisy the Asian market is an awful assumption, as is saying he's past his best at 29.

kinda agree as if you ever bought an asian sized pair of trousers size large they are comparable to our size extra small and you'd be lucky to get em past your knees  :) but he has been playing in the Bundesliga which is relatively physical!!

We are on the brink of signing Japan's 3rd all time highest goalscorer and some people are questioning if he is good enough? Jesus wept!

Well lets be honest here, Japan aren't exactly a super power of world football. So I'm not sure that's any indication whatsoever of how he'll do. It's a bit like saying Kevin Doyle has the same GPG ratio as Irelands second top scorer and is seventh overall.

The concern has been fairly clear in the main. That price, for a 29 and a half year old (when we kick off), someone who has never played here or lived here. Does he speak the language? I'm not sure. On that side of it, it's fairly high risk. But on the other side of the coin he's performed very well for the last couple of years in a decent standard of league. If he settles in quickly, can speak enough of the language to get by then he could be great. If he takes time to settle, takes time to get used to the game in this league. We could be a year down the line with a 30 and a half year old, with little resale value, who we might worry about whether he can make it in this league.

But he hasn't ever suggested we bought him just to satisfy the Asian market - he merely maintained it was part of the thinking but that Pearson wouldn't just buy any heap of crap to achieve satisfy this - ok I may have used my own words but same gist

cool .....................I seem to be in real armchair warrior mode today!! Must be the change of season  :) or the lack of football... or work... or.... the list could get very long  :sweating:

As Babylon mentions above we certainly aren't signing him in hope of selling him on for a greater fee, which suggest one of two things; either we recoup the money we spent and begin to profit on him due to shirt sales etc due to Asian connection or we are sure he's the real deal and will make a huge difference to our squad even if it's temporarily, i assume it's for both reasons and hope he'll hit the ground running.

How many fights have you won against ninjas? And how far do you think you could get on takeshi's castle?

Apology accepted.

Racial stereotyping at its best. Well played sir

That's right.... Because he's clearly a ninja who's been on takeshi's castle...
