lcfcnsk Posted 14 May 2015 Posted 14 May 2015 Leicester to bid £8m for Mainz forward Shinji Okazaki Nigel Pearson will make a renewed attempt to sign the Japan international after negotiations resume with the Bundesliga clubNigel Pearson is set to make a £8million bid for Shinji Okazaki this summer after reopening talks with Mainz. Pearson, the Leicester City manager, will make a renewed attempt to sign the Japan international after negotiations resumed with the Bundesliga club. Okazaki was the subject of two offers from Leicester in the January transfer window but Mainz managed to keep the 29-year-old forward. Pearson remains keen on signing him and is expected to make another bid at the end of the season, provided Leicester avoid relegation to the Championship. Leicester are on the brink of securing Premier League survival after a remarkable run of six wins in seven games. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/teams/leicester-city/11607027/Leicester-to-bid-8m-for-Mainz-forward-Shinji-Okazaki.html
TJB-fox Posted 14 May 2015 Posted 14 May 2015 Would rather go for someone a tad younger, but if we want him this much to go back for him he must be well thought of!
Guest Sharpe's Fox Posted 14 May 2015 Posted 14 May 2015 Ulloa has hit double figures in his first season, Nugent has shown himself to be one of our most effective, creative players, Vardy has once again become an integral part of how this side functions and Kramarić is a obvious skilful creator and known prolific goalscorer when in form. Is another £8-10 million striker really necessary with these proven players available? I am not convinced.
MooseBreath Posted 14 May 2015 Posted 14 May 2015 Although it's good to plan ahead, I can't imagine nige being focused on anything other than the fact that we're in the midst of a full on relegation scrap right now, so I reckon this is pure speculation. £8m for a 29yo does seem a lot of money especially considering that we can't even find room for a £9m striker already.
ealingfox Posted 14 May 2015 Posted 14 May 2015 He's nearly 30 and coming into the last year of his contract, so £8m does seem a bit steep, though the Far East commercial benefits would put paid to some of that. Think it would see Nugent moved on if it did happen. Time to upgrade, I know people will say we play well when he's in the side but I think the last few weeks have proved we can without him too. There'll be plenty of Championship takers this summer, and they'd be paying a fee. And yes of course this does depend on us staying up first.
sylofox Posted 14 May 2015 Posted 14 May 2015 If Mainz want £15mil for Okazaki then consider that one binned. We'd be utter mugs to pay that for a 29 year old forward who, whilst clearly decent, isn't what you'd consider a top forward. Definitely think we'll be in for a forward though. Were we not offering about £8mil (around that) for him in January? This was after we'd bought Kramaric too. Thats about it was also told they did not have time to replace him so would not sell. But seems like the deal may have been done for a summer move if we stayed up. Did they read this then print it

yag101 Posted 14 May 2015 Posted 14 May 2015 He's quite limited as a player, I'd take him on a free but no way is he worth 8mil.
ealingfox Posted 14 May 2015 Posted 14 May 2015 But I do not see many paying him a prem wage do you. They wouldn't have to.
sylofox Posted 14 May 2015 Posted 14 May 2015 They wouldn't have to. So you think Nuge will go to a champ side for like 10k a week and drop 20k in his wages lol
Guest bss9401 Posted 14 May 2015 Posted 14 May 2015 I'd rather we went for Darren Bent on a 2 year contract if we are that keen to get another striker in. Safer bet.
ealingfox Posted 14 May 2015 Posted 14 May 2015 So you think Nuge will go to a champ side for like 10k a week and drop 20k in his wages lol Did I say that? First of all I doubt he's on 30k. Then we have options like paying part of his wages for a season after the transfer, or making it technically a loan, or just paying him off. And Championship sides are allowed to pay more than 10k a week.
GingerrrFox Posted 14 May 2015 Posted 14 May 2015 Nugent only has 1 year left on his contract and I think he's the one that will bite the bullet for Okazaki. Wood will be sold and I reckon Nugent will go out on loan. Leaving us with Vardy, Kramaric, Ulloa and Okazaki in a rotation.
fuchsntf Posted 14 May 2015 Posted 14 May 2015 Just to put it into perspective... Christian Heidel, manager of Mainz05 in a press conference from Thursday. Interview on squad matter, over possible changes, coming or going. We have not whatssoever had , or have contact, from or with Leicester city over Shinji Okazaki . Whole interview on Mainz05 website..www.mainz05.de

And Championship sides are allowed to pay more than 10k a week. Who said they can not spend more than 10k that was an example as like you i have no idea what he is on and other clubs finances. But I do not expect many to be able to pay what he is on this season. Also what point getting rid and paying his wage we know he will do a job for us in the prem.
Swiper Posted 15 May 2015 Posted 15 May 2015 Is Nuge really worth giving up for Okazaki? Nuge has a pretty defined role in the squad. He seems content with it and does a good job when healthy. I find it hard to believe that Okazaki would want to come in to play that kind of role. Three 8+mil strikers? No thanks. Bulk up the midfield and solidify the defense. Do we even need to mention the potency of the Vardy/Nuge pairing? This just seems like an odd move if it were to happen at Nuge's expense.
Dan Posted 15 May 2015 Posted 15 May 2015 Thats about it was also told they did not have time to replace him so would not sell. But seems like the deal may have been done for a summer move if we stayed up. Did they read this then print it Illuminati confirmed.
gurru991 Posted 15 May 2015 Posted 15 May 2015 It really doesn't make sense to me, the back end needs some additions before we look at strikers. I think this is just the press making something out of very little.
Danizen Posted 15 May 2015 Posted 15 May 2015 With James being out for the rest of the calendar year (at least) and Konchesky being Konchesky, we should prioritise different areas of the team and maybe come in for Okazaki later in the summer.
EnglishOxide Posted 15 May 2015 Posted 15 May 2015 The one shit thing about being Premier League is being linked to every player under the sun. Its literally generated by agents to get more interest and better deals for their players yet fans lap it up.
