Leicester to bid £8m for Mainz forward Shinji Okazaki

People saying he's an upgraded Nugent, are you saying that he's going to be sat on the bench behind Mahrez with Nugent leaving or what? Because if you don't mean that he'll be playing behind the front two then why describe him as an upgraded Nuge considering that's what he does best for us?

Was wondering the same thing. Okazaki doesn't look like he's doing much linking and such. Sure, these clips are just highlights that will focus on goals, but I've watched Mainz play a few times and he definitely plays up front and not in the Nuge/Mahrez role. I'm sure he's capable of it, but would that be worth spending 8m+ on? I'll be happy to see him come in if that's the direction they want to take, but they need to be smart about this.

Don't forget Ulloa went a large part of the season where he was pretty abysmal and we need another striker to compete so although they're different types of player it gives us another option. We aren't going to play the same 11-16 players every game, there'll be lots of variations through injury, suspensions, current form etc.

I do agree with the first sentence, but isn't Kramaric that person? If we sign Okazaki I'd imagine he'd be pushing Ulloa out of the squad even more because Vardy doesn't seem one to be dropped and Mahrez and Nugent play a different role entirely.

you can never have too many strikers and different types of strikers and back up for them is needed. We need to start to think with a premiership mentality where very very good players do sit on the bench a lot and sometimes never make the bench. if our goal is top 10, we need to have players on the bench who would in their own right get us into the top 10 and players missing out on the bench who would be seen as strong bench players if not 1st teamers themselves.

going back to the start of the season, ok in other positions we had Hammond and Taylor F playing midfield due to injury and were on the verge of having to play Konch at centre half. Strength in depth needs to be on another level in the prem. You could argue that Krameric had a great impact in keeping Nuge, Vardy and Ulloa on their toes and could have been the catalyst for their improved form.

Krameric and Okazaki (or a n other) are simply replacements for Wood and Taylor F. Who starts each game and their role will depend on availalbility, how they perform in training, pre season, and the tactics we employ on a game by game basis so trying to 2nd guess who will play what role now and become the 1st 11 first choice is pretty pointless. It's about having options and plenty of them to get us through the season without fielding a weakened team too often

Vardy, Kramaric, Ulloa, Okazaki. Thats our 4 strikers for the squad right there. Wood we should sell. Nugent won't leave because he might have to take a pay cut so will have to be a loan.

Or he'll continue to play behind the front two strikers and be backup to Mahrez as he's the one performing currently? If we sign an attacking midfielder then that's it for Nugent but as it is whenever we play how we've played the last few matches Mahrez and Nugent are pretty much the only options.

We'll need six in total. To be successful we will need two players for every position. It make the team stronger & is an insurance policy for injuries.

It's those four for the front 2 and Mahrez or Nugent behind them. That's 2 for each position as far as I can tell?

I tried to sign him of FIFA. Basically told me to **** off....

I used Mainz. They are chronic, but he scored a lovely goal with a shot and turn.

Verdict: Pearson deserves to go if he doesn't sign him.

OFFICIAL: Mainz confirm the signing of Japanese striker Yoshinori Muto on a four-year contract until 2019. #M05

Could well be Okazaki's replacement.

That was my first thought when I saw the BBC gossip column this morning. They must be trying to establish a fanbase in Japan. It definitely seems likely that Okazaki will leave now. Didn't they also bring another striker in?

Been told we are trying to get this wrapped up this week. Legit friend who I trust but doesn't mean he has been given the right info.... Works at the club in a support/ admin role.

Can imagine Wood going out on loan again, if this guy comes.

Can imagine Wood being sold to Wolves or another Championship challenger if/when we get him
