how much do we need to spend in the summer transfer window?

Can see us investing between £20mil-£30mil over the two windows if we need to. Can see that figure being close to £20mil though as Nige loves a few bargains and free transfers.

I do think we will see our first incoming £10mil player this coming transfer window though.

If it were me, I'd get Cambiasso, Huth and Wasyl signing up. From there I would look at the squad and the formation we're likely to play and then bring in one Centre Half, one left back, one attacking midfielder and maybe a winger to be safe. No one player over 10 million either.

But it aint me.

Huth and Cambiasso must be sorted... if they are we should bring in at least 3 or 4 players... Maybe spend around 30 million... don't need to go too crazy and sink like QPR

Huth circa £3/5m?.. Cambiasso is just a contract renewal..

It's hard to really put a number on it since you can spend £400,000 on Mahrez or £17m on Carroll. 3-4 quality players plus adequate replacements for any squad members who leave and we will be fine.

Hull spent 40 million on a load of shite!

Haha.. Spurs spent almost 3 times that on their pile of shite!.. Almost 30m on the goal machine known as Soldado!!

Will we learn from last year when clearly we didn't invest enough on quality /premier league experienced players?

... who are sitting 14th in the League.

When will YOU learn?

I'd say 2 places are absolutely vital - CB and CM. I'd like us to get proven players there, so £5m+ for each at least i'd expect.

Gut feeling is Cambiasso and Huth won't be here, so that's another 2.

Competition for Schlupp at LB...

and then if we're being selfish, another striker.

I'd say another £20 mill like this year, as a minimum. Probably closer to 30/40.

Sounds like a crazy amount but I think that's because we've been out of this league for so long. Our squad has great character but clearly has areas for improvement, especially if our 2 best players don't stay.

Don't you agree that Huth was absolute key in keeping us up then?.. He was NOT a summer transfer window signing was he??.. Upson was!!...

A lot hinges on whether Cambiaso and Huth are signed. Even so we will need to add two or three quality players to the squad. I am guessing that 30 to 40 Million should do it

Yeah but Upson was exactly the sort of Prem experienced player you're talking about!

We now have a squad full with "prem experienced" players. Why would we look to replace them in the light of our ultimately successful season?

This squad can only get better.

I agree to a point, yet you don't stand still...get Huth in,a quality left back and a top midfielder..then we can hopefully set our heights a little,2016/17 season is when the really big money comes to the prem,we need to be apart of that.

Cambiasso, Huth, Wasyl, Hammond to sign.

Need replacements for Wood(sold on), Knockeart(not renewing),James(out for most of next season),Moore(not good enough),Koncheskey(not good enough).

Can Tom Lawrence step up to take Knockeart's spot?

That means 4/5 incoming players, assuming we can renew those 4.

1striker

1leftback

1centre mid

1centre back

maybe 1 winger/attacking mid

Plus I'm sure we will sign players that Nige thinks will improve on what we already have.

Upson isn't the sort of player I'm talking about at all... He was an aged, free transfer( Aldi /lidl type option).. Premier league experience granted, but TOO much of it and way over the hill.. We mustn't take the cheap options this transfer window as per the Upson example!

Cambiasso will almost certainly sign as will Was.

Huth has to be the top target and I think we'll get him.

Then we need another centre back and central midfielder,

I can't agree with people wanting about six new players and strikers. If we start bringing in strikers we need to ship some out.

You generally need 5 strikers. Currently we have Vardy,Nugent,Kramaric,Ulloa and Wood. Thing is in football you always have to improve, and strikers are the most important role at the end of the day. If it means the likes of Nugent getting less games then so be it.

I m thinking you are being sarcastic, but if if not.....

Come off it. It's hardly been comfortable- we've stayed up which is a miracle - that's only been possible because of a fantastic purple patch / spell of 6 weeks. Major blunders which include the purchase and playing of old duds like Schwarzer, Upson and lack of a replacement for Konchesky massively contributed to our struggles. With proper recruitment last summer we would never have been the relegation fight at all. The last 9 games have proven that.

Magnificent recovery make no mistake, but let's now push on and strengthen where our weaknesses were this time last year. Left back (if not using 3 5 2) a CB and Huth, followed by a ball playing midfielder at the very least. We should have the cash to bring in quality in those areas now.

Will be interesting to see who signs for the likes of Bournemouth and Watford and how much they spend... Without significant investment into their squads they will be like Burnley and get relegated..

Totally agree with this!

I do not agree. We need defensive reinforcements. Hopefully Huth and a new LB at a minimum. As well as that I would get a winger with Knockeart likely to leave. 10-15 million should be enough. Improve the core of the squad is what we need to do, not replacing it.
