how much do we need to spend in the summer transfer window?

I do not agree. We need defensive reinforcements. Hopefully Huth and a new LB at a minimum. As well as that I would get a winger with Knockeart likely to leave. 10-15 million should be enough. Improve the core of the squad is what we need to do, not replacing it.

Surely we need to replace.. Knockaert, Simpson, Konchesky, Upson, Wood and cover for James.... At the very least?

Upson isn't the sort of player I'm talking about at all... He was an aged, free transfer( Aldi /lidl type option).. Premier league experience granted, but TOO much of it and way over the hill.. We mustn't take the cheap options this transfer window as per the Upson example!

It's not about how much we spend, you can't guarantee quality by waving pound notes around. It's about getting the right balance. Sign up Huth, Wasyl, Cambiasso and I'd give Hammond another year now James is out for the foreseeable.

I think resigning those 3 and buying Huth is first on the agenda.

I think a further 4 would be enough to complement what we already have.

Move on Upson and replace with a younger centre back, who along with Moore can be eased into the team to to eventually replace Wasyl (as much as I love him realistically we'll probably only get one more year from the big pole) There was a lot of pressure on Moore as 1 of 2 in the centre, I think like Morgan we'd see a big improvement if he played alongside Huth in a 3. Next year is big season for Moore, I'm not writing him off yet like some have.

A centre mid to add competition, a box to box energetic combative midfielder. I really can't think of anyone in this country so it might be a dip in the foreign market.

A left fullback/wingback, someone with electric pace and a good delivery. If we're to continue with the wing backs we need pace in those positions. The modern fullback. I'd be happy to go in next season with Albrighton/De Laet and Schlupp + 1.

A front 3 player in the mold of someone like Mane at Southampton. Quick can play wide and down the middle, good finisher.

Not much to ask for I know.

Cambiasso will almost certainly sign as will Was.

Huth has to be the top target and I think we'll get him.

Then we need another centre back and central midfielder,

I can't agree with people wanting about six new players and strikers. If we start bringing in strikers we need to ship some out.

Nugent and wood are not going to score many in the prem.

I hope Cambiasso just chooses to continue with us, nice and quickly.

No ****ing about, just agree on a contract, get it signed and get in and amongst the team nice and early for preparations for next year.

I think it'll be quite key in other players coming to play for us again.

I would anticipate 2 central midfielders, at least one with a lot of experience of the Premiership, to cover for the absence of James and the departure of Hammond. Likewise 2 CBs (one ideally would be Huth) as well as a striker.

As with most transfer windows we'll be looking at players entering the final year of their deal or available on a free.

The 'new' TV deal kicks in for the 2016/17 season and will see yet another considerable increase in money so expect to see a lot of clubs investing heavily this summer.

Edited to say we'll need replacements for

Konchesky

Knockeart (although Lawrence may be that man)

Woods

Hammond

Christ how much would it cost to replace cambo you have got to be talking 20-25m in today's market to buy a player anywhere near his quality let alone attract a player of his quality

I think some of you are forgetting that the improved PL contract means prices will be even more inflated this summer. We will be lucky to get good enough quality for less than 10 million. We certainly need a good defensive midfielder and they don't come cheap if they are good enough.

I would be against buying 'potential'. we want to consolidate rather than struggle.

George Friend ? Sorry, but we now need to be aiming higher. perhaps Esteban knows a few with the right attitude who could improve the quality without costing a fortune. Liam should be eased into the defensive three. Deano can stay as a squad player but given his likely lack of game time, I would expect him to want to move on for a last contract somewhere in the champ or league 1.

I don't expect Nigel to buy more than 4 or 5 - it's not his style.

You generally need 5 strikers. Currently we have Vardy,Nugent,Kramaric,Ulloa and Wood. Thing is in football you always have to improve, and strikers are the most important role at the end of the day. If it means the likes of Nugent getting less games then so be it.

Id personally go big money on charlie austin

Wood is done, he won't be back next year & I don't see Nugent scoring many in the prem either.

Don't care how much we spend on fees

It's wages that have the biggest effect on league placing by far

We need to decide on a system and then make sure we have 2 quality players for each position plus keep some in reserve so we can move in January to make the difference if we need to.

Hope the summer isn't dogged by the club failing to land signing after signing that management team targeted.

Lets be honest, if Nigel wanted Huth, then he could get him. All he has to do is offer Stoke the amount of money where they don't give it a second thought.  Cambiasso is different because of his age etc.  But Huth has to be the first target to nail down.  5 million, whatever it takes. Wasil as well, I'm sure he would fancy another crack at it now we appear to be a bit more settled in terms of the first 11.

Will be interesting to see who signs for the likes of Bournemouth and Watford and how much they spend... Without significant investment into their squads they will be like Burnley and get relegated..

Bournemouth's oligarch's deep pockets should see them right

Watford's ownership model should see their squad boosted with quality

Recruitment should be easier now we're no longer a newly promoted team, more players should buy into what's happening here and that can only be a good thing. We lost out on Cresswell and Pelle to established PL teams, whereas we may now be in a position where Bournemouth, Watford and Norwich/Boro lose out on targets to us.

Easier said than done, promoted teams find it hard to persuade good players to come

Cambiasso & Wasyl re-signed 1st and foremost.

Then Huth is priority number 2, easily worth £3million quid.

A LB / LWB is next, if we persist with 3-4-1-2, ideally it needs to be someone quick, agile and not afraid to push forward when needed, Andrew Robertson if Hull go down or Marcell Jansen of Hamburg would do me.

With James injury and the possibility of Hammond leaving, I'd like to hope we bring in a CM. Unsure who is likely to be available / Scouted, but I can imagine it'll be someone from te championship (Pritchard maybe) or possible someone from abroad. If WBA let Mulumbu leave, I'd personally target him.

Tell that to QPR... money doesn't make you a success

It's not the amount but how you use it. Got to spend wisely.

It's worth pointing out that Watford's ownership model may not be as effective in the PL as it was in the Championship. Udinese are just three places above the Serie A drop zone and Granada are actually in the La Liga bottom three.

Mid-table Serie A and bottom half La Liga players were more than good enough for the Championship, but the players in the Pozzo family clubs are unlikely to be good enough on their own to keep Watford up. Beyond the big names of Italian and Spanish football, there's a lot of dross in their leagues. There's very little doubt that Watford will have to cast their net a lot wider than their ownership model, if they rely exclusively on Udinese and Granada players they'll be down straight away.

Bournemouth might do better, I fancy them to spring more surprises than Watford. Again though, they have to buy well. Norwich could do better than Boro if they come up, their PL experience from last season means they may not have as much to do to build their squad.
