Darkon84 Posted 29 May 2015 Posted 29 May 2015 I couldn't see a topic for this previously, so feel free to merge if there is one knocking about somewhere. It's 30 years to the day since this terrible occurrence and it always seems to be something that is overlooked, well, on these shores at least. Often hotly contested too, with sections of Liverpool fans blaming it on Chelsea fans, barely any sign of remembrance at both Anfield and Heysel, and many Juventus fans still feeling aggrieved over it as if it's been swept under the carpet by most. Here's your place to have your say, leave your thoughts or whatever you like. RIP to those who lost their lives that day. I'll start off with an article from The Guardian, featuring some of the views from the players who played that night. I think Phil Jones may have lost his head a bit though (I'm aware it's an old article, but I think it gives a bit more insight and better opinions than some of the standard, re-hashed articles). http://www.theguardian.com/football/2005/apr/03/newsstory.sport
Voll Blau Posted 29 May 2015 Posted 29 May 2015 Yeah, Phil Neal couldn't come across as more of a cvnt in that article.
m4DD0gg Posted 29 May 2015 Posted 29 May 2015 Ah yes the football tragedy you are not allowed to mention in fear of upsetting liverpool fans, if shoes was on the other foot you can guarantee you would never hear the end of it.
MC Prussian Posted 29 May 2015 Posted 29 May 2015 Yeah, Phil Neal couldn't come across as more of a cvnt in that article. What an absolute cnut Phil Neal is. He does and is - but I suppose that's his way of dealing with the tragedy.
goose2010 Posted 29 May 2015 Posted 29 May 2015 I'm glad the report left Neal's answers in, what a bell end why be like about something so sensitive!
Voll Blau Posted 29 May 2015 Posted 29 May 2015 He does and is - but I suppose that's his way of dealing with the tragedy. By demanding payment? Could understand him telling the reporter to fvck off but his response is hardly a defence mechanism.
pSinatra Posted 29 May 2015 Posted 29 May 2015 I wonder how much he got paid? Might explain the grumpy face.
AKCJ Posted 29 May 2015 Posted 29 May 2015 It is weird how Heysel is completely forgotten yet Hillsbrough is rammed down our throats every day. However insensitive he is, he's got a point.
ScouseFox Posted 29 May 2015 Posted 29 May 2015 It's still mentioned quite a lot round here. It's so "forgotten" that people mention it so much every year about how it's "forgotten" that its now kinda unforgettable.
The Doctor Posted 29 May 2015 Posted 29 May 2015 It is weird how Heysel is completely forgotten yet Hillsbrough is rammed down our throats every day. However insensitive he is, he's got a point. Phil Neal doesn't say anything about the difference between the two though - he just whinges that the journalist should pay him for his thoughts, while not providing any actual comments on it beyond "I'd rather forget that night, it was an ordeal". If he'd simply given that and said he didn't want to talk about it - fair enough, but to spend the discussion saying he should be being paid is a bit cnutish.

I'm guessing Neal thought that wouldn't be printed, what a **** though.
Freesolo Posted 29 May 2015 Posted 29 May 2015 That is F**king unreal by Phil Neal i could spit in his face, ****. I'd rather forget that night. It was an ordeal. But, Jamie, why should I help you out? I'm helping you pay your mortgage [by talking to you about Heysel]. When people ask me for my view, they usually have to pay for it. You're asking for my help for nothing. To pay your mortgage, Jamie. I mean, what do you want from me? Bet he would talk about Hillsborough though and how sad that was, Heysel was caused by Liverpool fans and he knows it, We get Hillsborough shoved down our throat all the time "JF96" and everything else yet Heysel gets brushed under the carpet. I F**king hate Liverpool fans more than any Prem club They think that they have some divine right to greatness because they won the European cup a few times 40 years ago, its always "We have History". And the way they act about the Heysel disaster just gives me more reason to hate them.
Guest Bilo Posted 29 May 2015 Posted 29 May 2015 At the risk of sounding insensitive and an apologist for what the Liverpool fans did that night; UEFA's decision to give a crumbling stadium such a major event, the incompetence of the Belgian police and poor crowd control all had their part to play.

There is no risk, you sound insensitive and like your an apologist for the Liverpool fans that night.

Loads os these stadiums seemed to be, problem was it only seem to result in widespread death when hoardes of scousers turned up to them.
Guest Bilo Posted 29 May 2015 Posted 29 May 2015 The behaviour of the Liverpool fans that night was despicable and inexcusable. However, remove the factors I've mentioned and everyone goes home safe. Even more damning is the fact that the Nou Camp, Bernabeu and Munich's Olympic Stadium were all lying idle.
Danno Posted 29 May 2015 Posted 29 May 2015 It is weird how Heysel is completely forgotten yet Hillsbrough is rammed down our throats every day. However insensitive he is, he's got a point. Probably because they are still seeking justice for hillsborough.
ramboacdc Posted 29 May 2015 Posted 29 May 2015 my dad is a liverpool fan and he cclaims they didnt cause heysel so my opinion has been skewered for ages. the reason it is forgotten isnt because liverpool feel guilty for it or caused it (yes they breached the neutral area but how the **** does a concrete wall come down? its not like they pushed it down or hit it with hammers) its because UEFA want it forgotten. My dad always claimed the ban was put in place to stop the english dominating europe for any longer too. like i said..very skewed opinion. take with a pinch of salt.

It comes down when it's already in poor condition and hundreds of people are trying to climb over it to get away from a mob of marauding scousers.
DennisNedry Posted 29 May 2015 Posted 29 May 2015 A concrete wall comes down when you've got hundreds of people crushing up against it trying to get away from a load of scumbag Liverpool fans. The thing I don't understand is why other English clubs were banned too, seems very unfair.
yorkie1999 Posted 29 May 2015 Posted 29 May 2015 There is no risk, you sound insensitive and like your an apologist for the Liverpool fans that night. And they still killed the juve fans.

By todays standards, the stadium was in poor condition and the police failed to control the event. But the wall toppled because lots of (mainly) Juventus fans were forced against it because they were being persued by Liverpool fans. So whilst you could argue the Liverpool fans did not destroy the wall, it is clear that their actions lead to the collapse.I'm sorry but trying to exonerate the Liverpool fans (and I'm not saying it was all Liverpool fans - just those involved in the trouble) is beyond stupidity.
