By the end of this window we will have been linked with and missed out on about 100 players with a cost of 400+mill.

That would give us about 122 players and we can only name 25.

But hey if 100 is not enough I can make up a few more for you OP.

I guarantee that by the end of this transfer window, we'll have missed out on:

Lionel Messi

Cristiano Ronaldo

Luis Suarez

Zlatan Ibrahimovic

Neymar

Robert Lewandowski

Franck Ribéry

Arjen Robben

Kevin De Bruyne

André Schürrle

Manuel Neuer

Andrea Pirlo

Carlos Tevez

Gonzalo Higuain

Andrea Barzagli

Giorgio Chiellini

Falcao

Eden Hazard

and many more. Just about every footballer we couldn't afford in the first place, anyway. But there you go.

Must be shocking to find out for the very first time that as a club, you can actually miss out on players.

People need to accept we are going to lose out on players. Some will get offers from better or more glamorous teams in more glamorous locations. Some will get silly money or contracts thrown at them by other clubs.

I think we've learnt over the lat few years that we aren't going to be one of those teams chucking money at it to solve a problem. If it doesn't fit in with our sensible financial approach then it probably won't happen.

Losing out on players is what happens to every team, Pearson will be looking for only players to improve on what we have... and unfortunately that means many other clubs will be interested. Not a big deal, and it is only the start of June

I can't believe we lost out on Depay. Gutted man. I'll be even more gutted if we don't atleast put a bid in for De Gea. Looks like we will be beaten to his signature too.

... and we'll miss out on Pele, Maradona, Cruyff, Van Basten, Bergkamp, Gerd Müller, Nesta, Caniggia, Stoichkov, Hagi, Lev Yashin, Bobby Moore, Charlton, etc.

Darn!

If you slept through the season and woke up now not knowing about the great escape you would surmise that finishing 14th might have indicated last season's losses and gains worked out fine. As long as we keep the likes of Schlupp, Vardy, Ulloa and Schmichel and off load the deadweight - Simpson, Konchesky etc. then I have faith in NP and team to get good deals done. Having said that I will be happy when Huth and Fuchs both sign.

It's June 3rd, we've signed one player, we know what the new kit looks like and the players have already squeezed in a preseason scandal, that's usually 3 months work that.

3 now though and there's no sign of it ending, cambiasso and nzonzi and all others are a bonus. COYB

Bonus? Every team in the PL will strengthen. We have to be better than last year to survive. if Esteban is not signing, I don't see us as being better than we were. (I know we won 7 from 9 but we wouldn't have done so with that fixture run mid season). We need another two or three in.

Good god man it is not even July and we have signed 3.  Yes we have to and will strengthen. Give it time.  Players and staff are only just getting back from holiday.

For comparison, last summer when we were new to the PL we signed 6 players for the first team (Albrighton, Hamer, Simpson, ulloa, Cambiasso and upson) and 5 youth players (Lawrence, Davis, Scott, Barmby and powell (L)).

That was when we still had a championship side and desperately needed to improve. Now we have a side which has proven that it's PL quality and so doesn't need as many additions - just upgrades. To have 3 signings of an arguably higher quality than last year - and all seasoned internationals - complete before the window even opens is fantastic, and shows that we've got a real intent. Possibly 4 if Cambiasso puts pen to paper.

Has any other PL club added more than 3 first team players yet? I haven't checked, but my money would be on 'No'.

Liverpool.

Ah, of course.

My point stands though - so far in this window we've been one of the most active clubs.
