Mike the Metal Ed Posted 6 June 2015 Posted 6 June 2015 It'd make it a bit tricky to get in or out, I'd probably be a little cross. So long as you're a little cross of St. George, then the OP won't have a problem.
zante Posted 6 June 2015 Author Posted 6 June 2015 The whole point of the OP was to get a gripe of my chest about the Thai flag outside our ground.... Yes I agree we have good owners and they have made a substantial investment in our club - I dont like the fact that us and many other British clubs have been taken over by rich foreign businessmen...but that horse has bolted. Unfortunately unlike German, Spanish, Italian clubs we seemed to have sold our footballing soul. For example I could never imagine ( Dreaming ) If I purchased a Spanish / Italian etc etc club and suddenly planting a union jack outside the main stand..I expect it would cause mayhem...... But it seems just to be us....all the other English clubs that have been taken over do not have a foreign flag flying outside the ground...Its not a racist thing, its not a nationalist thing....Just that we are Leicester City, a proud English football club.
Rincewind Posted 6 June 2015 Posted 6 June 2015 Like others I could not care less. It seems a pretty petty immature thing to moan about.

You've put your point across a lot better now than your opening comments. However, times have moved on you don't know for sure if a Spanish or a German club would have a Union Jack outside their club would cause mayhem. If their was an Italy flag outside the KP it would not bother me. We are LCFC and proud that will never change whoever owns our club or whatever country they come from.
UpTheLeagueFox Posted 6 June 2015 Posted 6 June 2015 The OP just goes to show that some people will always find something to complain about.

It's hardly like they are changing or even trying to change people's beliefs is it? I mean come on.. They've invested millions and millions of their own money and make the odd public appearance. It's not as if they screaming and shouting about Thailand before every game etc. All they've done is put one bloody flag up! Also this will probably create further argument but for me I would say I'm very patriotic and love England but the flag doesn't bother me one bit! If one small flag really bothers you then I think you've got some more extreme beliefs than you're letting on, given you've praised the owners yet criticise them for expressing in a very small way their culture to us. Just make sure that next time you're watching England play football or cricket abroad that no one puts any St George's flags anywhere! Wouldn't want to cause offence would we!

I couldn't care less about the flag but to be fair they do actually bang on about Thailand before every game on the big screens.

Haha fair enough. Yeah they promote it as a place to visit , not promote it to try and cause people to change their identity and lose their 'nationalist' beliefs as the OP clearly thinks

Hungry Hungry Fox Posted 7 June 2015 Posted 7 June 2015 I think people need to look up the definition of "racist". Maybe xenophobic is a more apt term

bovril Posted 7 June 2015 Posted 7 June 2015 Of course the OP is racist. He's basically saying "don't want any ov that Asian muck in ingurland" Plenty of English knuckledraggers are still strongly racist, mainly disguising it as Nationalism. What other type of person would get annoyed by a flag? I mean, a flag. I think this post is even more trollific than the OP.
Wymsey Posted 7 June 2015 Posted 7 June 2015 At least we're in pole position than most in having the benefit effective ownership and caring owners.

What other type of person would get annoyed by a flag? I mean, a flag. That is completly ridiculous. I don't think the Thai flag should be there and I am certainly no racist nor nationalist (I'd join the Euro and a United States of Europe tomorrow). I think the club's ground should reflect its history and the community it represents. I didn't like the elephants either because they had absolutely nothing to do with the history or community of the club. People like you are the very reason why wankers like Farage thrive. This club is owned by some Thai blokes who have done very nicely for (and out of, let's not forget. They're not here because they love us) the club but we will all be here long after thet have gone and the heritage of our club, and the game in general in this country, is very important. As with any other football club anywhere in the world Leicester City should exist to serve the interests of the community it represents. It shouldn't be a million miles removed from a public service or social enterprise. The interests of the owners don't come into it, except where they are aligned to those of the club, whatever their nationality.
Tom's Pasta Posted 7 June 2015 Posted 7 June 2015 A bit like complaining that the Great Wall of china has a bit of a loose brick

The interests of the owners don't come into it, except where they are aligned to those of the club, whatever their nationality. As with any business anywhere in the world, many aspects of its operation will serve the intrerests of its owners/shareholders/sponsors/partners. Not every penny spent by these companies is for fun; they expect some degree of return from their investments.dropofclaridge correctly points out that Leicester City are partners with the Tourism Authority of Thailand, who pay the club money in exchange for the club promoting Thailand (and tourism to Thailand) in a positive light--hence things like the "Amazing Thailand" shirt sponsorship of years past, the Thai flags, etc. It's an interest shared by the owners/company that owns our club, which operates duty free shops in Thailand that cater to tourists. National flags may elicit certain passions, but the Thai flag flying along side the Union flag, while partly done for marketing purposes, isn't really that crass of a gesture, evoking even partnership between two countries and two cultures.

bovril Posted 7 June 2015 Posted 7 June 2015 I reckon people would have complained more if Mandaric had put a Serbian flag outside our ground.
Jordan Posted 7 June 2015 Posted 7 June 2015 I reckon people would have complained more if Mandaric had put a Serbian flag outside our ground. It would have been bizarre if Mandaric put up a Serbian flag, because he really would have had little personal interest and even less vested business interest in doing so.But speaking of "interest," Mandaric would have probably only have done so if he could loan the club money that would have to be paid back to him in order to cover the costs of the flag.
