Thai Flag outside our ground...

Recommended Posts

Leicester City is an exclusively British cultural institution

Our top scorer, best player, players player, goalkeeper, all three of our centre backs and one of our key attacking midfielders aren't british so I fail to see how its exclusively british

The head office of my company in Japan flies the flag of visitors nations so when I go there they have the Union Jack flying, I don't really care if the Thais want to fly their flag at filbert way.

They're not that stupid, if they were using the Internet before it was invented

It was actually invented sometime in the early 80's but The present version was created in 1990 by Tim Berners lee

Surprised at how good a team you can make out of players who couldn't play for England.

Kasper

De Laet

Morgan

Huth

Wasyl

Jeff

King

Cambiasso

Mahrez

Ulloa

Kramaric

I wonder if we've ever fielded a team without an Englishman.

Im not bothered with it. Then again here in canada we seem to see all sorts of countries flags displayed next to ours outside of companies etc.

I will bring my canada flag next time im back in town for a match and switch it with the thai one :)

Why is it that we have to have a Thai flag outside our ground.....Its like they have planted it there stating we have been conquered.

There is no stars and stripes outside Old Trafford or Anfield....No Russian flag outside Stamford Bridge or any other foreign flags flying

at English football clubs that have become foreign owners new play things......So why us ??????

Yes I know that most City fans think the owners are fab and all that, but it just gripes the hell out of me that our stadium is named after a Thai Duty free business and that statement of a flag is outside.....

'The King Power' .... do me a favour ... 'Filbert Way' please and take that dam flag down.

Never visit the United Nations, you'll have a fit.

When you travel around the world on business, you notice that in other parts of the world (especially the 'less developed'parts) , two things are very important.

1) a flag

2) a uniform

you wait till the team are all kitted out looking the same ....................... Doh!

Awful. Wish we had a proper English owner like Mike Ashley.

Not sure if this is a wind up or you're as bad as the op.

You know it's the silly season and the most fierce critics of either the manager or the owners clinging onto such pointless matters.

Ever heard of (cultural) respect? Does the OP take into consideration the amount of good work and investment the owners have done in the past two years?

Obviously not, otherwise he'd have never brought up a Thai flag as an issue.

Did you go QPR at home? Did you see the Buddha-related items (flags, picture) they were carrying around after the final whistle? I can't see no one taking offense at that then (or now).

The Union Jack hangs up there outside the stadium, as well. I think that balances it all out.

In case you were serious, I may suggest you keeping a low profile in Greece. Complaining about a foreign element at your club back home, but as a guy living abroad, benefitting from the circumstances in one of the poorest country in Europe. Double standards?

Can't even believe this is a thread. Absolutely embarrassing OP.

We live in a multicultural society, and support a club who have fans of multiple nationalities, aswell as many players from around the world. I bet you didn't complain when fans held Argentina flags up for Cambiasso towards the end of the season..

We wouldn't be anywhere near the premier league if it wasn't for our THAI owners and they deserve a huge amount of praise for everything they have done for us. Quite frankly I couldn't care if they put 100s of the flags up. They're hardly trying to steal our identity.

OP is not far off being offensive and it beggars belief someone can feel that way after what our owners have done. Kindly fcuk off

Firstly, I like the owners in general, they deserve credit but people talk as if they saved us from extinction. They have put money in but the club was in a strong position off the pitch before they came, apart from being owned by an absolute dickhead. It's not as if the squad who got us promoted cost a massive amount and it's annoying when people say we couldn't be where we are now without them, it's bullshit.

We were close to going up in 2010 before they came, we've been in the top flight many times before and not everyone who gets promoted and does well has hugely wealthy foreign owners. We're a big club in our own right, with good crowds, and had a good  championship manager in Pearson. There's every reason to believe we could have got promoted if they never turned up (whether their arrival had anything to do with Pearson leaving is still up for debate, but regardless, we still had the potential to go up).

Meanwhile the fans are still being overcharged so I'm always wary about worshipping owners. But they deserve respect and you can't really fault them on the whole.

Secondly, the OP has overreacted but he's got a point, there's no good reason for he flag to be there. We're not a Thai club. That doesn't mean we're racist if we don't want it, it means the club isn't all about the owners. Does it really bother me? No. What really bothers me is their apparent insistence to shove the colour gold into our kits to extent where it's our secondary colour. We're not blue and white any more, we're blue and gold, and that's not really acceptable. It's not quite what happened at Cardiff but I'm not comfortable with it at all.

The owners aren't heroes, they're just good owners in comparison to a lot of others. People go over the top in both directions.

There's so much innuendo and false assumptions in your post, allow me to dissect it:

"People talk as if they saved us from extinction."

Most fans I can think of are pretty frank in their appreciation and the owners deserve it. We were saved from near-extinction some twelve years ago, the new Thai ownership has however allowed us to get past the safe stage, develop further and prosper. And for that we ought to be thankful. Especially when you compare our owners with others around the country (some of them English, btw). It's always easy to say in hindsight, but we wouldn't be where we are without them. Period. They put in the money allowing for investments.

"...not everyone who gets promoted and does well has hugely wealthy foreign owners."

Excuse me, but could you please point out which Premier League or Championship clubs don't have hugely wealthy foreign owners? Apart from the not overly ambitious ones, I might add.

"...we could have got promoted if they never turned up."

Again, pure conjecture on your behalf. You may be right, you may be not. We could've easily spent another ten years in the Championship, not getting anywhere. The club has always had potential and played some top-flight football before. Weren't you happy we managed to achieve promotion last year? Would you have wanted to wait any longer? I doubt it.

"... the fans are still being overcharged."

You what, Kitch? Being a Leicester City fan in the Premier League is a bit of a bliss. Have you taken a look at the ticket prices at most of the other clubs in this division? Fancy becoming an Arsenal supporter then? From what I recall, our pricing is more than reasonable in comparison. From memory, there are/were only about three or four teams with cheaper tickets.

"...there's no good reason for he flag to be there."

We're not a Thai club, we're a club run by Thai owners. In that respect, the flag can stay there for as long as they want it to - it's a good enough reason for me. It doesn't bother me one bit. Would you protest that much if it were any other country - say Japan or Switzerland (see Southampton, for example)?

"That doesn't mean we're racist if we don't want it,..."

Then why bring up racism in the first place?

"...it means the club isn't all about the owners...

Well, yeah. It isn't. So...?

"We're not blue and white any more, we're blue and gold, and that's not really acceptable."

If you'd taken a good look at the 15/16 kit, you'd know better. Even last season's kit was mainly blue and white with some gold in it. Again, it seems you're suffering from a mild form of forgetfulness - how about the gold kit we wore in the Mandaric era?
