C-man Posted 8 December 2015 Posted 8 December 2015 I'm laughing now but if we finish 4th and end up in the Europa because United are shite, I'll be crying. But we're gonna win the league so never mind What do you mean? The coefficient can't change in time for next season so 4th this season guarantees a CL play-off round.
Dan Posted 8 December 2015 Posted 8 December 2015 Man City have actually come out of it doing alright in the end. Finally got that top spot, now you watch them run into PSG
HEGGSY Posted 8 December 2015 Posted 8 December 2015 What do you mean? The coefficient can't change in time for next season so 4th this season guarantees a CL play-off round.Ahhhh didn't know that. Noice.
Donut Posted 8 December 2015 Posted 8 December 2015 You only have to look at this seasons Premier League to realise English football is in the gutter. Lets focus on Man Utd and the failings of Van Gaal though. A man who has spent a quarter of a billion plus on players, and yet has managed to mastermind a squad so thin in a crucial Champions League game he is relying on Valera, Bothwick-Jackson, Lingard and Nick Powell to get him a result. A manager who has a side totally devoid of flair and yet decides to let Di Maria and Januzaj leave the club. A manager who cant field two proper centrebacks. A manager who has managed to built the slowest team possible, with Carrick and Schweingsteiger offering no legs in midfield. Going into tomorrow night, there is the very real possibility of ONE English team getting out of the group stage. ONE team. The fact that Leicester of all teams can threaten teams like Man Utd, Man City at the top of the Premier League show how PATHETIC the situation is.
Dan Posted 8 December 2015 Posted 8 December 2015 Can't argue with a word of that. I've said it for a while. I swear the money's actually weakened the league as all it's done is made English clubs either more complacent, or just paying more money for the same players, or both of those. It's amazing that a team that cost less than Depay is top of the league this season. I think Chelsea might go through but I'll be amazed if either they or Man City even make the semis. Look at what Real Madrid did to Malmo tonight. That's a proper top side at work. When's the last time an English side won that emphatically in Europe? They could all learn a lot from Leicester. We've been very intelligent about it.
Donut Posted 8 December 2015 Posted 8 December 2015 It just baffles me, i find it astonishing. A QUARTER OF A BILLION on players, and you are playing Marouane Fellaini as a utility striker. Your game changer off the bench as well.
Dan Posted 8 December 2015 Posted 8 December 2015 They threw Chris Smalling up front as well apparently It's shameful. Never fails to amaze me the amount of money clubs in this country throw at utter, utter mediocrity. Makes me appreciate how good our scouts are.
Donut Posted 8 December 2015 Posted 8 December 2015 I didnt think about it up till now, but Michael Owen rattled off a list of players Van Gaal has let go, and whilst theyre not all world class, maybe none are world class, you cant tell me the man utd squad would be worse if they still had: Rafael Evra Nani Kagawa Van Persie Hernandez Januzaj At worst it would be options. Mental.
foxes_rule1978 Posted 8 December 2015 Posted 8 December 2015 They are trying to buy success all of them rather than build a side... the top clubs are looking for instant results so are cutting and changing every season losing millions in the process... It is a joke. We are a team that has been built and everyone plays for each other, we have added quality to the side too, but only where needed, we didn't sell Drinkwater last season we allowed him to develop, same with Vardy, Morgan and so on. Man U have got rid of Hernandez, januzaj, Di Maria ect... and replaced with less experience players... such a shambles. Funny enough Man U would die for a player like Drinkwater right now
Corky Posted 8 December 2015 Posted 8 December 2015 As brilliant as we've been, we shouldn't be top. It proves what fantastic management we've had and some underwhelming and poor coaching elsewhere. These benches and back-ups, for the money spent, are wholly inadequate. But they'll just go and throw more money at the situation and that will probably win in the end domestically. Man United's last five years in this have been dreadful- one quarter-final, two first round exits and didn't qualify for another.
Super_horns Posted 8 December 2015 Posted 8 December 2015 Be a bit annoying for BT if in their first season of covering the Champions league 3 English sides go out this early - mind you on the other hand the Europa league will create more interest! Wonder how seriously Man U for example will take it given there is a Champions league spot for the winners?

goose2010 Posted 8 December 2015 Posted 8 December 2015 United have saved them self from getting embarrassed in the next round imagine that defence against Madrid?! Would be like Malmo. United are utterly shocking LVG has turned a decent team into a wreck, if moyes got out of the group! they seriously need to look at their coaches to, something isn't right no team should get that many injuries mainly muscle related pulls or strains.
goose2010 Posted 8 December 2015 Posted 8 December 2015 They are not guaranteed top four so I would be surprised if they didn't take it seriously They can take it as serious as they want but if they play like they did tonight the likes of Lazio, Dortmund, Braga, Villarreal will batter them.
ScouseFox Posted 8 December 2015 Posted 8 December 2015 They are not guaranteed top four so I would be surprised if they didn't take it seriously theres much more chance of them finishing fourth than winning the europa league. theyve got an even better chance of finishing fourth if they just bin off the europa and have no extra games.
foxes_rule1978 Posted 8 December 2015 Posted 8 December 2015 They can take it as serious as they want but if they play like they did tonight the likes of Lazio, Dortmund, Braga, Villarreal will batter them. I'm sure they would, I'm just saying you want to take any opportunity you get to make it into the CL next season

Always a dangerous game... Liverpool, Everton and Spurs IMO are better sides... that's not including Arsenal, Man City and of course ourselves
Dan Posted 8 December 2015 Posted 8 December 2015 Tottenham and Leicester are the only teams around the top who've really built a side rather than throwing silly money at it year on year. Man City too arguably actually as they've had a lot of their players for years. I like what they're doing at Spurs. They were very guilty of this pre-Pochettino but he's got his head screwed on. They're throwing youngsters in and doing it with purpose. Problem is half of these clubs see the hype around these new signings as as big a positive as their actual performances. I'd take being the plucky unfashionable ones every day of the week over that.

Izzy Posted 8 December 2015 Posted 8 December 2015 LVG in his after match presser talking ABSOLUTE SHITE! What a massive bellend. Really can't stand the bloke and if I were the Man Utd owners I'd fook him off right away after failing to qualify.
johnny the fox Posted 8 December 2015 Posted 8 December 2015 knowing our luck . english clubs will lose a place ..and we will just miss out.
foxes_rule1978 Posted 8 December 2015 Posted 8 December 2015 knowing our luck . english clubs will lose a place ..and we will just miss out. It can't happen this season, plus we are winning the league anyway so doesn't matter
Dan Posted 8 December 2015 Posted 8 December 2015 Fair shout about the Europa actually. You're looking at Spurs, Liverpool, Man Utd, Arsenal and Chelsea all in it potentially. Could and should have been more than that as well.
