thybluefox Posted 15 July 2015 Posted 15 July 2015 The problem is, at the level we're at you'll pay over the odds for young english players that are of a good enough standard to make it into our first team, and compete in this league. You think if Mahrez was English we'd have got him for £400k? He wouldn't have been an unknown at that age, and he would have been a few million easily. Then you look at players like Sterling, obviously has some amount of talent but I think he's vastly overrated given his price of £49million.
Frank to be Posted 15 July 2015 Posted 15 July 2015 What's a "British attitude"? Cup o tea, fish n chips, jumpers for goalposts. These are the qualities we need in the premier league.
Babylon Posted 15 July 2015 Posted 15 July 2015 What's a "British attitude"? Go out, get drunk, have a fight... you know the usual.
johnny the fox Posted 15 July 2015 Author Posted 15 July 2015 He hasn't even got rid of anyone yet so where is this idea coming from? Anyway it's a well known fact that English players are overpriced. This is why a lot of clubs look on the continent for cheaper players of the same quality. I don't think any manager has a vendetta on English players; it's just the current market adds around £10m on the top English players. just a question if it does occur...after all it is the EPL.
The_77 Posted 15 July 2015 Posted 15 July 2015 The instant negativity reaction by many toward Ranieri and the sudden questioning of whether or not the club will have any English players (the answer is "yes," not that it matters) is very disappointing.
Vacamion Posted 15 July 2015 Posted 15 July 2015 Go out, get drunk, have a fight... you know the usual. Go to Thailand, procure some sex workers, have 'em clean their tuppence.... you know, the usual....

The_77 Posted 15 July 2015 Posted 15 July 2015 how is asking a straight forward question negative? How is it even a possibility that there won't be any English players on the team?
johnny the fox Posted 15 July 2015 Author Posted 15 July 2015 How is it even a possibility that there won't be any English players on the team? you saying its impossible then?
gerrytaggart Posted 15 July 2015 Posted 15 July 2015 English players have no place in the modern game.
Stevosevic Posted 15 July 2015 Posted 15 July 2015 The last english player Pearson bought was Danny Simpson... I'll stick to the foreigners, that's the way Pearson was going anyway.... Ulloa, Cambiasso, Mahrez, Kramaric, Huth, Okazaki, Fuchs
chicagofox Posted 15 July 2015 Posted 15 July 2015 With the exception of Vardy, Albrighton, and (possibly) James, I hope not.
FireFox Posted 15 July 2015 Posted 15 July 2015 From his book, what he said in his first meeting with Abramovich: "Above all, I wanted players from the home nations capable of giving a heart, soul and spirit to the squad that would be essentially English in nature. I believed strongly in this. The backbone of a team should reflect the characteristics of the championship it plays in. Equally clear, and demonstrated by the arrival of Hernan Crespo, Adrian Mutu and Claude Makelele, was the importance of including star players from abroad – vital for making the step up in quality – but there should always be a strong local contingent, not least because the fans can identify with them more easily.

Italy right now is the place to find good players at a reasonable fee. Wonder how many on here will have a cow if he starts bringing in Italian talent. And will not see that he does it to strength the squad relatively inexpensive ly.
AyewJoking Posted 16 July 2015 Posted 16 July 2015 get a squad full of sexy Italians and we can get pooma to give us a tight fitting retro shirt!
Foxhateram Posted 16 July 2015 Posted 16 July 2015 We will because we are legally obliged to have at least 7 in rhe squad. I hope CR doesn't change too much. We have a great squad here who work hard for this club. We just need a few quality additions. If those additions are English then great, we can have more enfant internstionals in the team after our coachung stuff nurture them to success.
ALC Fox Posted 16 July 2015 Posted 16 July 2015 Doesn't bother me at all as long as they're good enough. When we stop having this ridiculous premium on young English players maybe we'll have more of them in English teams. Why buy English when you can get French with the same ability at a fraction of the price? I also agree with the sentiment that the likes of Kasper, De Laet, and Schlupp should be considered British. And there's absolutely no question about whether Wes is British.

zante Posted 16 July 2015 Posted 16 July 2015 Well we are foreign owned, now a foreign manager, white shorts gone from the home kit, creeping in of the 'Lucky' gold ....so why not go the whole hog ? ... Then we can be a modern top English football club.

We're obliged to have home grown players in the squad, but Kasper, De Laet, Schlupp, and Huth all class as home grown under the ruling event though none of them we're born in England or represent the country at international level. A player has to have been trained in an English clubs youth system for at least 3 years prior to the age of 21to be classed as home grown.
