Good to hear you got some joy out of it in the end! lol

By 'walk it' I meant after finishing 2nd in the first season behind Roma. Ah dear.

1. Stop listening to your assistant manager, I never listen to the tactical advice in the game, it's always rubbish.

2. You don't need a different formation for England and Spain, there's no real difference, you're over thinking things.

3. Go to the sigames community forum, tactics section, start reading. Read anything posted by Cleon and take it as gospel.

4. Download some other tactics, you don't have to use them but look at how they set up and learn from them.

5. Less is more, don't bog your players down with millions of instructions.

6. Breed consistency, stop changing things after every game if you lose.

7. Have an organised midfield, make sure at least one of your central midfielders is a sitting player that isn't roaming, a DLP in def or sup is a good start. Ball winning midfielders are brilliant this year, have one.

8. Don't use wing backs. Full backs on attack and support get forward plenty but sit deeper in defensive phases which tend to stop you getting murdered by crosses. Have one on attack and one on support or defence, actually set to the full back role not the wing back. My LB set to Full Back (A) is still the top assist provider in my team and gives me my width.

9. Stop applying your own pre-conceptions to terminology and over relying on the tool tips. The fact you think Messi would be wasted at DLF when it's probably the best way to involve him in the game shows you don't understand the match engine, not that the game is crap.

10. Make sure you are watching the extended highlights and at a slow enough speed that you can analyse what's going on. LOOK at where the space is, LOOK at where your players are, LOOK at where the opposition are creating CCCs from and LOOK at what happens when you change players between different roles.

Also, the positional suitability can also be misleading. With one of my tactics I use a false nine, my advanced striker has about a 2-bar suitability for it and is rated at half a star. Hasn't stopped him scoring 20+ goals.

I wouldn't download any tactics, they usually have about 13 team instructions.

I've got the arse with the game just because I'm not patient enough and I probably pick too challenging sides but it's not that difficult.

Oh and wide players in the AM strata as a opposed to the midfield slots don't track back very well especially on an attack duty.

I love this post.

Dont bog the players down with lots of instructions? Instructions kept to a minimum.

Ball winning midfielders are brilliant this year? Good job i bought a bloody good one. In theory. And use one every game.

Make sure a midfielder sits, no roaming. Yep, got the deep lying playmaker position covered.

Dont use wing backs? Not using them. Using full backs, and one is tearing it up as an attacker averaging over 8, Rodriguez solid in supporting.

Dont change the formation? havent been. Wouldnt make a blind bit of difference.

Given that i was already doing pretty much everyting everyone has suggested, because i have played this game for many years, and im not daft, I should be sat top of the league right now shouldnt I? all bases are covered right?

Errr, no. Im sat 3rd, were absolute pish, we take hammerings from dross like West Ham and Southampton, we cant get anywhere near joke clubs like Tottenham who manage to win 14 league games in a row, absolute bollocks.

You can tell what the result of any game will be after 5-10 mins of the game. Almost GUARANTEED.

So maybe its time to start playing Alexis as a regista or playing Theo Walcott as a limited defender. Maybe we should go route one to Monreal up front? who knows, because **** all else works and all the graphics on the game are pointless as ****.

1. Swap your LB and RB roles so the attacking full back is giving width and letting the IF cut inside.

2. Personally I'd turn off look for overlap, I think it's bobbins and slows down your attacking play.

3. Most significant thing about your screenshots? Your players don't know your system. I'm going to guess it's because you keep changing it. One of the things I will grant you about FM for the past two or three versions is that it's been stupidly unforgiving when you're below a maxed out Fluid for your tactics.

Set match training to tactics, set it high and stop changing the system until they fully learn it. Your tactics are straightforward enough that they should work. I've had success with similar.

The left hand side of your tactic isn't very solid, there's a lot of space behind your "holding" pair and neither of them are particularly good at it, the BWM is going to have to do a lot of covering when your attacks break down. Additionally, the IF-a isn't going to track back at all, play him as a modified wide midfielder on attack with PIs of sit narrower, cut inside with the ball, dribble more etc. Personally with 2 centrebacks I'd always leave them both as CD-d. Your striker maybe isolated, watch a few games on at least comprehensive and look to see where your moves breakdown, I'd it because your players aren't in positions to receive the ball, is your general approach just too aggressive?

So for now I think just make a few changes to the roles,

-----------------CF-s

-----------------AP-A

---wm-a--dlp-s------bwm-d--w-s

---wb-s---cd-d-------cd-d-----fb-a

That should be more balanced, whilst retaining the shape you want (the tactics screen is your defensive shape, your on the ball set up is affected by the roles and duties).

One thing that SI should definitely improve on is the documentation in the game explaining how to build a tactic, it's only through spending countless hours on the official forum that I know how to play the game.

Also, if you create a couple more tactics at the top of the screen, the team will begin to learn all simultaneously.

Set them all to the same one, they'll learn it much more quickly.

If you just leave it at one, set the training slider all the way to to the left and play at least 11 pre season games then it'll be fluid at the start of the season

His formation is quite similar to how I've always played 4-2-3-1 really.

Literally since about FM10 I think I have constantly had my training focus being on team cohesion. Am I being an idiot by continuing with that once I've gotten it to 100% fluidity?

Team cohesion doesn't affect fluidity

Getting more injuries now its December. What's the best training option + intensity for mid season

Training doesn't really affect injuries that much unless you're always on a high or very high it's more to do with condition, if players are playing with a low condition % they'll probably get injured

Ive been moaning a lot on this thread recently, but theres light at the end of the tunnel.

Ive actually started a save im enjoying!!

I started a game as Boca, and after a very tough start of 3 points from 4 games, we have started to look unstoppable.

The combination of Tevez as a supporting false 9, and Correa on loan from Atletico Madrid as an attacking playmaker has seen us look lethal in front of goal.

Boca have some quality players as well. Lodeiro, Chavez and Meli have all been absolutely terrific in a new look 4-2-3-1 formation ive put them in.

And unlike Arsenal, it actually seems like changing things around has an impact on the pitch.

Ill get pictures up later, hopefully this tactic will be sustainable

When the update comes out I'm going to give this another go, but as I've said a million times before, I've lost interest in this version time after time with each game save. Finners mentioned starting up a custom league, but to be quite honest I can't be bothered - not sure that's my cup of tea but could be worth exploring. Started a career as Sheff Weds the other week, got promoted via the play-offs (signed Ajer first season, got A.Zivkovic on a free, Mandi the Algerian right back) but I still lost interest even when I was building a decent side.

Tempted to start as Marbella, could be interesting. In previous games I've had great success with smaller clubs in Nordic countries (took Kobenhavn to the CL Semi-Final, Lyngby in the Europa League last 16) as well as in Italy with Perugia, but I'm just not feeling it this time round.

**** bournemouth, they have two quick strikers that move in to the channels and roast you every time, I should have reacted earlier but they've had 6 ccc's just from hopeful long balls the *****

I still think the game is fixed. Its quite simply fixed.

How can you go into a game knowing youll lose, and then lose? too predictable.

You always see the same traits in a game you lose. Like on the extended highlights, if the other team starts well, the game is impossible to turn around.

No matter how good the chances are you create, your players will miss them all.

Its always after youve had a decent little run, and then are playing a team that ordinarily you should be smashing.

The game will make sure you WILL lose this game.

Happens in every single save you start.

Haha I'll give you that. That's happened to me a few times. I came off the back of about 8 straight wins on the previous season in my current St Etienne save, with the last two wins being against PSG and Barca, then I lose away at Tours, who are bottom of the league, despite having about 15 shots on target lol

Having said that, I've switched to a simple, basically all out attack 4-3-3 in the new season and find myself top of the league with 44 points from 16 games (14 wins and 2 draws), with a goal difference of +32 (41 scored, 9 conceded) and 13 points ahead of PSG in second lol

There's your problem, how can you fix what's going wrong if you're watching probably less than 1/5 of the game, watch a few full games and then switch down to comprehensive and you'll see who or what is ****ing up

Alright, going to start fresh, anyone got any unusual leagues to recommend i load into the game? outside the usual euro leagues
