I wouldn't want him unless we think he's a right back in the making.

He's only 20 and looks like an athlete and pacey. If he was anything like his countryman Jeff Schlupp then bring him in. Two Schlupp like players as our full backs?

That would be pretty exciting, if not a little scary too.

You'll be wrong about Schlupp. He has every attribute you could want in a full back, he just needs to learn the position and art of defending.

He'll be awesome in a year or two.

Remember being a full back is relatively new to him.

So he has everything you need in a defender except for the ability to defend? Great news.

News for you it's not 1950 any more.

In cricket wicket keepers need to be able to bat and in football full backs need some ability on the ball and offer an attacking threat. Having four players in a team that get a nose bleed when they leave their own half is unacceptable.

I also never said he couldn't defend, your words not mine.

He is however still learning his trade as a left back.

Oh come off it. If you say that someone needs to learn the art of defending, well you don't need to learn something if you can already do it, can you?

"Needs to learn".

I didn't say he was incapable, it's not like being pregnant when it's either someone is or isn't?

There are different degrees of being able to defend.

We may as well bring Konchesky back or put Simpson there as they are probably better defenders than Jeff.

FFS give the guy a chance to get learn his position, I think he's done very well so far with his limited experience in the defensive side of the role.

Remember he's keeping a player out who played Champions League football last season for a big German club. I think we'd all agree that Fuchs is better at the defensive side of the game.

Some people, Jeez  lol

Ashley Cole couldn't defend at the start of his career but learnt over 2/3 seasons and went on to become a serious left back

Exactly.

If you can't play football you have no business being a full back in today's game.

If Mahrez or Albrighton get injured, other than Lawrence (going on loan probably) or maybe pushing Schlupp foward, we don't have any cover. I think a winger on loan from one of the top teams is needed.

Fuchs played more as a winger last year than as a left back, so we have Mahrez, Albrighton, Schlupp, Fuchs, and Lawrence

He doesn't really have that.

By 'all the attributes', I'm guessing you just mean pace. He doesn't really have any other attributes, if we're being honest.

Furthermore I would also add De Laet. If we are really low on wingers I think he could do a job there with benny or a new rb behind him. Alternatively we could go back to wingbacks. Basically I don't feel it's much of an issue, for me I'm happy with the squad as it is but RB a priority if anywhere

Apologies, it is just when someone says that all they need to learn is how to play in the position and how to defend I tend to assume that they meant that they need to learn how to play in the position and how to defend.

With Academy players they don't remember anything like that. Just the things they do wrong. Everyone else gets time to adjust. Hence one of the reasons for a recent article about home grown footballers being a declining breed.

I totally agree with your assessment. De Laet is more comfortable going forward than defending. The more he plays right back the more he'll be targeted by the opposition. It's a pity  I know Was is available to play there but he's not the answer as he couldn't play a full season. So I hope Bennaloune can defend without giving away silly fouls like last week. If he can then we'll be ok.
