Lestoh Posted 16 August 2015 Posted 16 August 2015 I don't think Sunderland fans are capable of getting excited anymore
foxfanazer Posted 16 August 2015 Posted 16 August 2015 Would love DD to establish himself here as a premier league player. I like the way he sees the game and he seems like he's willing to put the work in to improve

dedlock Posted 16 August 2015 Posted 16 August 2015 Similar playing style but DD has a long way to go to be even close to Scholes. Firstly DD has to put in consistent performances like the last 2 games, then he has to up his game when we play the big teams. Next Saturday will be interesting.
ScouseFox Posted 16 August 2015 Posted 16 August 2015 it's well hard not to be stupidly smug even if it is only two games in, as one of the only gents who genuinely thought king and drinky would be absolutely fine in this division.

I don't think they will be good enough. Hammond had a great start to last season, but I don't think he is good enough as a starter either. I think they will play a good part in the squad though, but we still need a bit more quality.
BoyJones Posted 16 August 2015 Posted 16 August 2015 I like Drinky, but he doesn't score enough goals from midfield. Yesterday's chance for instance which he skied over the bar when under no real pressure. Could have cost us two points, but it didn't! That's where Kingy, IMO, has the edge. Nevertheless a welcome return to form for DD.

Carl the Llama Posted 16 August 2015 Posted 16 August 2015 Wrong! ...The guy I was replying to originally spelled it without the c, spelling exited. Â Sunderland fans exited en masse yesterday. Â I can believe it's not very funny but I can't believe I have to explain that joke.
Mickyblueeyes Posted 16 August 2015 Posted 16 August 2015 Not the new Paul Scholes but definitely a more improved (or better adapted) player than last year. Year on year Drinkwater has improved. I expect him to do the same this year. The same can be said for King and James. Unfortunately for James who's progress will be halted by this injury. When he does return I again expect he will kick on again. In the three of them we have three midfield players who started off as top class league one player, progressed to top championship players and will make the next step to accomplished premier league players. I remember Frank Lampard owed a lot of credit to his progression to Ranieri and I hope his ability to improve young midfielders help these three. Our future midfield is in these three hands. Guys like Cambiasso and maybe Inler are more so stop gaps while these three progress. You could probably add Kante to the three which gives you a good idea of how strong our midfield could be in a few years.
Benji Posted 16 August 2015 Posted 16 August 2015 Ignoring the obvious effect on the pitch, players like Drinkwater and James will have learnt a ridiculous amount from Cambiasso last year - really hope we see the full potential of those two this season when James is back.
ARM1968 Posted 16 August 2015 Posted 16 August 2015 Not on the same planet as Scholes imho. But improved this season and has the potential to be a very good Premier League midfielder.
Thracian Posted 16 August 2015 Posted 16 August 2015 Let's see Drinkwater put half a season of Premiership games together - for a seven point player rating average - before we start exagerrating his welcome and undoubted improvement. Â Not that I see the Scholes connection. Let him set and improve his own standards. Scholes was one of the worst midfielders I've ever seen defensively, at Premiership level. Willing enough I grant you, but what a liability at times. There must have been eunochs better in the tackle!.Â
Jace Posted 16 August 2015 Posted 16 August 2015 The new Paul Scholes! This is funnier than when David Bentley was labeled the new David Beckham
Fatbloke Posted 16 August 2015 Posted 16 August 2015 Mahrez is the new Messi Mmmmm feel a song coming on :- We all agree Mahrez is better than Messi :-)
dylanlegend Posted 17 August 2015 Posted 17 August 2015 Different players.. Scholes in his prime was an AMC, I would say Drinky is much more a CM similar to Xavi it that's he likes to keep it short and simple but flowing quickly
Guest Col city fan Posted 17 August 2015 Posted 17 August 2015 Personally I'm pleased that Cambiclasso has left (there, I've said it), as I thought Drinkwater (our player of the year in the promotion season) was given precious little chance last season. People were criticising him (quel surprise) but it's difficult to come in and make a big impression as a bit part player. I'm hoping he really steps up this season as he seems to be first choice in the central area. He's got a brilliant engine on him and this was something that I felt was clearly lacking last season. Regarding comparing him to Scholes however..not in the same league. Scholes was an exceptional footballer.
GloverFox Posted 17 August 2015 Posted 17 August 2015 ... yes, I'm with you 99% Col city ... two different players and the bonus is Danny will (... without any doubt) develop into an exceptional EPL player ... I've had to hold back just the 1% as I was really sad to see Cambi go (what a fantastic, experienced talent to see in the Blue!) but our current players that had the exposure to his experience really must have gained a lot about not only the control and how to develop plays but more importantly about their own control within a game. Watching this current team move forward is already a real treat ... roll on Tottingham!
Asherz Posted 17 August 2015 Posted 17 August 2015 This is what is great about foxes talk.... There was people saying he shoukd be moved on.. He wasnt good enough... Etc etc now at least 2-3 peoples comments on this thread have said the previous statement about DD yet now there saying he is awesome !!! Now which one is he ... Or you just going to chAnge ya mind in a few weeks when he has a bad game ....

Watching this current team move forward is already a real treat ... roll on Tottingham! You may be surprised but I too was a little perturbed when Esteban left. Not so much for his play, which could be exceptional but I still feel he was off the pace at times, but mainly for his presence. I don't know but I feel that Andy King especially has learnt from Cambiasso and by so doing, has taken his game to the next level. Having a bloke around with that level of experience on the pitch is what this team may well miss if times get tough.

MattyFromLE Posted 17 August 2015 Posted 17 August 2015 I was ( fairly ) reliably informed in the summer that Kingy and Drinkwater really didn't like/get on with Esteban. So it is interesting now that they've started a lot more confidently and look to have learnt a lot of lessons from mistakes made last season. Long may it continue!Â
