Pundits and ex-players summer comments starting to look pretty silly.

I'm sure this has probably been said before but does anyone else think it's a little bit amusing how many pundits and ex-players were saying that Neil Lennon would have been a better appointment than Ranieri? I hope Lennon turns out to be a good manager but I think we did well to avoid that one.

Can we turn this into the "Look how silly this journo looks now" thread and have a load of the best quotes from jumped up jobsworths who think the sun shines out of their arse?

Personal favourite from Dietmar Hamaan...

"Can't believe Leicester appointed Ranieri. Great club, great fanbase but I'm afraid MK rather than Old Trafford season after next."

That's  what this thread is for, good or bad.

Also maybe we do this in a few months rather than tempting fate lol

I bet that's what the jounalists think.

Bollocks to them, if they're arrogant enough to think they can sell their shite opinions then they're there to be shot at.

Still a bit early for me, but if things keep going as they are i'm all up for some Twitter payback later in the season!

Not trying to tempt fate on this one. It's less about people suggesting that we'd struggle. More to do with suggestions that Lennon would have been the ideal appointment.

lol There were quite a lot on this board saying this. I genuinely thought it was all one big joke.

I still don't understand the reasoning. He'd have been underwhelming and is not a very good manager.

I don't know, it's early days. There's time yet for him to sell his star midfielder, sign Junior Lewis and go on a record-breaking run of defeats including a humiliating Cup exit, while Lennon surges up the second tier. I don't expect any of these things to happen, but I'm not especially up for having a laugh at Lennon's expense anyway. No more so than I was up for having a laugh at Walsh and Cottee's expense in the autumn of 2000.

Not amusing, no. Everyone is entitled to an opinion. At the minute it looks like those opinions were wrong. Lets just keep playing well this season instead of looking back at what other said.

Through all this the person I really feel sorry for is Klopp.  He could have been manager of a top 5 club, but now he's stuck grafting down at lowly Liverpool.

I'll probably save my gloating for if/when we hit 40 points.

It would be brilliant, if this season churns up a few suprise teams.

Yes I would love to see a few pundits and journalist, struggle for any explanation.

Neville on Sky, is one of the few I respect. The others on Skys gillette super Saturday, seem to be learning, and showing more respect for the also rans, plus stopped stupid comments on telling us that 12pts behind before xmas is too much for would be champions or top 4 spots.

knowledgable fans over decades have always known, Feb and even late as easter, are major turning dates. November, December the xmas period can turn fortunes.

In Europe countries like Germany, Belguim, France, Holland (with weather changes helping) with no no xmas program, Jan-March including easter have changed numerous clubs fortunes.

1 example was Rehhagels Werder Bremen, 2-5 seasons, every year German critics, had them out of the title race, then by Feb they went on runs, a few times winning the title or getting very close.Having teams like Hannover, BVB, Nuremburg, relegated by beginning of feb, then seeing them at EOS in top 8.

We all know at present what Swansea and Soton are capable of, but for me its a stretch I admit, but I would "love it" if

we could see city, CP, and W.Ham, all 3 in a top 6 position, just because of their present style of play, and hope they can

keep it going with success.

It still baffles me how pundits and fans alike throw predictions around with so much conviction. It's as if they haven't all been watching football for the last several years.

I mean, surely we've all seen soooooo much evidence and examples that go to show that these things are not only almost impossible to predict, largely random and also that things can change so quickly.

We were dead and buried with 9 games to go last season and look what happened. And yet people still make sweeping predictions.

I for one am glad that Ranieri did poorly at Greece, came to an unfashionable small club and that every man and his dog wrote him and us off. Would the players and Ranieri had been so galvanised without the preseason naysayers? Who knows. All I know is that we've got a decent amount of points on the board already.

The thing is, we'll never know if Lennon would have been a better/worse appointment than CR or not. We may have even had a better start under him than Claudio - we just don't know! Lennon did well at Celtic (OK my Gran would have done ok managing Celtic) but he's got a tough gig at Bolton and I really hope he turns them round. I wonder if he was in charge of our current squad, how well he'd do? It's still early days and the wheels could come off anytime so let's not get ahead of ourselves. I still expect Lennon to do well as a Manager, he's young enough and will learn from his mistakes. Who knows, one day we may still even see him return to Leicester as our Manager. I for one would be right behind him. There's only one Neil Lennon.

I agree with you on pretty much all of that. The point I'm trying to make (although not particularly well) is what credentials does Lennon have over Ranieri? If Lennon proves himself in England over the next few years, he's the type of character I'd like as our manager. I understand that Ranieri was going to come in for some criticism for not managing a club like ours for a long time, but I think there was perhaps an overreaction. I certainly wouldn't want us to get ahead of ourselves, like most people I'd be happy with maintaining our status as a premier league club. I'd just rather do it in a more consistent manner than last season.

You want Bolton to do well?? The team that wanted the premier league closed off from promotion and relegation whilst they were in it.. I hope they rot in the conference...

Ranieri has done a fantastic job, but it’s likely that any other manager would have done more-or-less as well for the first nine games. Peter Taylor took Martin O’Neill’s side to the top of the Premiership, and Ranieri has done the same with Pearson’s team.

However, that’s where the comparison ends. Ranieri has clearly already improved upon the great squad that he inherited from Pearson, and Ranieri deserves full credit for the further improvement in Vardy and Mahrez this season, and the re-emergence of Drinkwater.

But this is still largely last season’s team:  the team built by Pearson. It’s Pearson’s never-say-die team spirit that has dug us out of a couple of scrapes this season.

Lennon on the other hand has taken over a team that has been going backwards for a few years now. Were Ranieri in charge of Bolton, and Lennon Leicester, it’s unlikely that the league positions of the two clubs would be much different. Bolton is a sinking ship. We are a silky catamaran gliding effortlessly over the waves.

What this really proves is that a Manager’s impact on a club is considerably less than most fans believe it to be. The real credit lies with the owners who have put the infrastructure in place and makes Leicester a relatively easy club to Manager, compared to the wrecks that are Villa, Newcastle and Sunderland.  It doesn’t matter how good your Captain is if the ship has already been scuttled!

Our current success isn’t due to Ranieri and the last nine matches, it’s the culmination of a process that began four years ago with Pearson clearing out the dead wood and replacing them with relatively unknown players like Drinkwater, Mahrez and Vardy. Now all Premiership superstars.

Ranieri seems to have quickly improved upon Pearson’s work, but the real test for him will come when he faces his first crisis. We are currently in a ‘sweet spot’ where Pearson’s influence still can be seen in the discipline and work ethic of the players, and Ranieri’s tactical superiority is helping us avoid some of the woeful tactical errors Pearson made for the bulk of last season.
