Aren't they known as the hornets?

I've always felt they were a club with a bit of an identity problem, are they in London? are they Moose/Stags/Harts/Hornets/Golden boys?

Yes, they are.

Quite strangely, they actually had an image of a hornet on one of their older crests...

Don't think there's any need for the animosity towards the guy coming on here to clear up a few things about his club. Considering he's being polite about it, we should consider it a bloody miracle when you think of how many of our own go to other forums acting like full-blown twats.

I, for one, always thought it was a moose. I still think it's a moose and, to me, Watford will always be the moose boys, but now when I get pulled up on it I can say I know it's a hart, but the fvcker looks quite moosey.

He was polite but I still DGAF. If I wanted to know whether the hornets had a Moose, Stag, Hart or Cow on their shirt I'd Google it or go on their site to ask.

If he comes on here I'd hope it would be to talk about his team's chances against Leicester.

Fair point... I will bog off after this post, I know when I am not wanted!

I was just responding to points raised previously in this thread... it wasn't a public information post

i.e. someone bought up the point about the badge, so I explained it; someone else referred to Watford as "United Nations", although we have been playing similar number of foreign players as Leicester, someone else mentioned 'loan players', we have 2 or 3 at most, only one playing (from Chelsea), others have mentioned Udinese/Granada links, so I explained there are only 4 that came from the , someone else mentioned Man City of the south, others have mentioned about the number of new signings etc........ I was just clearing a few points up, as there has been a fair amount of bollocks in some of the things people believe!

Anyway, good luck for the season

Roger east is the ref...

As he had any of our games this season?

Nope, but he did Watford when they beat Newcastle away.

Yeah, yeah, but are you going to stuff us on Satdi?

It's going to be a 0-0 draw and suddenly we'll become benignly irrelevant to each other again.

Like imagine a load of other fans slagging us off on their forum and someone piping up with all the reasons we're actually brilliant you're just all naive. Cringe or what.

Cheer up. It's just banta, innit.

What's gone wrong with Lloyd Dyer, sent on loan to Brum and can't even get in the 1st team squad.

Kind of a long story, but the general synopsis is that he was made verbal promises by our (then) Technical Director (who is no longer at the club) that he would make a certain number of appearances, which were not upheld by our (then) head coach, as he was not party to these exchanges. Dyer became frustrated with this, and when he finally got a game (in which he scored), he 'celebrated' by running towards the technical area and yelling verbal abuse at the head coach - hence him getting shipped off to Brum.

Our new manager has since told Dyer that he's not in the plans, but he's been named on the bench a couple of times.

we should be able to beat this lot - but it won't be a pushover and I'm sure Twatford will have noted our continuing weakness at set pieces........2-1 to the mighty City.....

This will be more difficult than some are expecting I think. They have vastly improved since the start of the season. They look pretty tight at the back but will have to work hard to deal with our pace.

I'm gonna predict a cagy first half with a few goals in the second 45.

Leicester to win 2-1

You are of course right. But in terms of it as an emblem, the Hart (Male Red Deer) is the emblem of Hertfordshire County Council, why I haven't a clue, and Watford changed the club emblem to the Hart about 40 years ago now, although yes it looks like a Moose! I was just providing the explanation of why it is there.  At the time, Watford was the only team from Hertfordshire in the league, although Barnet and Stevenage crept in since then.

The Hart can also be, rarely, white.  And doesn't every town have a White Hart pub, usually with a picture of a Deer on the sign...

.. anyway, there ends today's lesson.  Now back to more interesting things like Football!! Come on you Golden Boys!!

Hertford is derived from the Anglo-Saxon heort ford, meaning deer crossing (of a watercourse).

Follow the logic through and hey presto!
