Guest MattP Posted 17 November 2015 Posted 17 November 2015 I agree, Private Eye is a great read as well, and dirt cheap really for a couple of hours enjoyable entertainment.
Fox92 Posted 17 November 2015 Posted 17 November 2015 Private Eye is brilliant. Used to read NME every week but that turned very poorly ages ago.
Webbo Posted 17 November 2015 Posted 17 November 2015 Thing is, no up and coming soap star is going to pose in her scanties for porn hub. Where are we going to see semi naked celebs now?
AyewJoking Posted 17 November 2015 Posted 17 November 2015 i think youre all missing the point here............. how the fúck are we supposed to know who the sexiest celeb in the world is anymore???
Alf Bentley Posted 17 November 2015 Posted 17 November 2015 Actually going to get my first ever magazine subscription soon for Private Eye. There's an article somewhere saying that mags like PE, Spectator and other insightful curent affairs stuff is increasing in readership while trash is really reducing because it's all online. People appreciate quality stuff, and they'll pay for it, if it's available. The challenge for these mags is to continue providing what they promise. Strongly recommended - my one subscription. Gives you a good insight into what's really going on within political parties, councils, companies and other institutions - an excellent counterweight to the PR bullshit that you get from every party and institution, Occasional in-depth investigations and some very funny pastiches, piss-takes, cartoons and other humour....and astonishingly cheap vis-à-vis quality. No, I'm not Ian Hislop!
Alf Bentley Posted 17 November 2015 Posted 17 November 2015 Thing is, no up and coming soap star is going to pose in her scanties for porn hub. Where are we going to see semi naked celebs now? There's nothing for it, Webbo. You're going to have to pose in your Y-fronts for FoxesTalk. Perhaps with a paint brush and a ladder to make it truly classy?
Finnegan Posted 17 November 2015 Posted 17 November 2015 Paywalls are the way forward, pay a bit extra but good quality journalism, The Times is the only newspaper in Britain that increased in circulation from 2013 to 2014, I read it cover to cover everyday. The only magazines I buy are The Spectator and All Out Cricket, it's never occured to me to read them online, I do still prefer the feel of what I read being in my hands. Oh yeah I love a good magazine. I still buy Rugby World, 442, Total Film and Empire fairly regularly and I'd never go on holiday without a few. I hate reading them on my phone, it's crap. But as far as I'm aware, Empire and 442 aren't at risk of going out of print. Dedicated, topical magazines (like your cricket one) have some value. But general purpose, "men's" magazines that are basically cover to cover adverts for toiletries and watches are pretty tedious and everything you get in them is on the internet and can be browsed anywhere whilst waiting for someone to turn up, taking a shit or putting your feet up on your lunch.
Fox92 Posted 17 November 2015 Posted 17 November 2015 Thing is, no up and coming soap star is going to pose in her scanties for porn hub. Where are we going to see semi naked celebs now? They still might use the Internet? I haven't read the article(s) but are they stopping altogether or just stopping the printing? They could still carry on via the Internet like most things nowadays.
ScouseFox Posted 17 November 2015 Posted 17 November 2015 Thing is, no up and coming soap star is going to pose in her scanties for porn hub. Where are we going to see semi naked celebs now? thank the lord someone can identify the difference between a porn star and a hot celeb
Steven Posted 17 November 2015 Posted 17 November 2015 Thing is, no up and coming soap star is going to pose in her scanties for porn hub. Where are we going to see semi naked celebs now? The Daily Mail.
Rincewind Posted 17 November 2015 Posted 17 November 2015 The Daily Mail. Katie Hopkins? No thank you.
Nalis Posted 17 November 2015 Posted 17 November 2015 Hopefully GQ goes next But where will we go for 80 pages of ads featuring Matthew McHunky with his shirt off?
Saxondale Posted 17 November 2015 Posted 17 November 2015 Print circulations have been crashing for years, for obvious reasons. Clear to see why these sort of magazines are no longer relevant. Bit of a shame, even if they are shit.
Unabomber Posted 17 November 2015 Posted 17 November 2015 Shame but not surprised, but at the end of the day we've still got the internet and Zoo.
ScouseFox Posted 17 November 2015 Posted 17 November 2015 another one bites the dust. they'll ban the internet next i tell ya
Webbo Posted 17 November 2015 Posted 17 November 2015 The Daily Mail. This kind of thing do you mean? http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-3322253/Busty-Emily-Ratajkowski-showcases-incredible-figure-black-bra-nude-pants-racy-new-Instagram-snap.html
Guest Manini Posted 17 November 2015 Posted 17 November 2015 Fan of FHM, had some decent substance to it, articles are quite well written as well for what they are. Only time I think I've ever picked up a zoo magazine (might have been nuts I can't remember, somebody correct me if I'm wrong) was at the city when we were in the prem in the 03-04 season. I think we were playing Villa at home (again, might be wrong but it was over a decade ago) and there was a free copy on every seat in the Kop. Just remember it being a total dog shit performance and everybody throwing their copies of the magazine towards the pitch . (This did happen didn't it? I've not just made it up in my own head?)

Seems it did How many remember when Nuts/Zoo (whichever it was as they launched at the same time) were allowed by the club to put a load of free copies on the seats in the kop before the Aston Villa game. Didn't the club have the apologise as they didn't realise the content of the magazine? Which probably didn't matter as a load were thrown to the front after we'd gone 4/5-0 down
Samilktray Posted 18 November 2015 Posted 18 November 2015 Harsh, GQ is decent. It's not. There's so many publications both on and offline that do what they do, but better.
VLC86 Posted 18 November 2015 Posted 18 November 2015 It's not. There's so many publications both on and offline that do what they do, but better. I buy it every month and think it's good, if you could recommend any others that are better that would be good.
Unabomber Posted 18 November 2015 Posted 18 November 2015 I buy it every month and think it's good, if you could recommend any others that are better that would be good. Esquire.
bovril Posted 18 November 2015 Posted 18 November 2015 I prefer Esquire to GQ. They are both pretty pretentious but Esquire is saved by the quality of some of its feature articles.
