Turkey shoots down Russian military jet

Uh oh http://www.bbc.com/news/world-middle-east-34907983

Moscow confirms it was theirs.  This isn't going to go down well.

The Russians do think they can take the piss everywhere though don't they. They have entered British and French airspace illegally repeatedly, even quite close to London. This time the Turks had the balls to go ahead with their warning.

And you think that Russia don't have their "own goals"?

Russia are always on the side of Russia and NO-ONE else.

As is every other nation. There's no truly altruistic nation out there, each and every one is looking to protect its own interests first and foremost. That's realpolitik - one of the most senseless and stupid ideas ever played out on a global scale, and responsible for a great many wars.

As for Turkey, they do seem to want to play both sides in a rather laughable attempt to restart the Ottoman empire. Not that it means much.

Regarding the incident itself, as there was no loss of life I'm sure there will be some strong words from one diplomatic office to another, but not much more.

Very useful hostages for whoever picks these two up.

Well, yknow, they shot down a commercial airliner the other month so swings and roundabouts.

I thought the investigation came to the conclusion that they couldn't tell whether it was pro Russian or pro Ukrianian forces that shot it down?

Hardly a threat, was close to the border and the Russian plane was bombing IS targets

Not sure what Turkey are gaining here

I'd put money on it that Russia deliberately went into Turkish airspace as they have many times.

Turkey wanted to make a point that enough is enough - stay out of our airspace without permission.

You play with fire so much you're going to get burnt now and again.

Only this week the French had to help out the British in a search for a russian sub in British waters as the British don't have the technology to find it.

It was in their airspace and they'd warned it numerous times. I'm pretty sure most Nato powers would probably have reacted similarly.

A Russian sub or high altitude bomber is spotted within leagues of our territory and we scramble to head them off and that's without them crossing.

The Russians would DEFINITELY do the same if it was in their airspace, fighter plane or not!

Putin acting like that twattish kid at school that winds you up then goes running to the dinner lady when you hit him.

That's what we need. An international non-alligned dinner lady task-force.

Their egos are writing cheques their bodies can't cash.

They've lost that loving feeling

Don't tell Jeremy Corbyn that or he'll probably propose it.
